一般に電子写真プロセスでは、電子写真感光体に対して、少なくとも帯電、露光、現像、転写およびクリーニングの各プロセスが実行される。かかる電子写真プロセスでは、トナーの逆帯電、感光体表面の凹凸や汚れ、転写器のエネルギー不足等により、感光体表面上のトナーをすべて転写材に移動させることはできず、感光体表面にトナーが残留する。この残留トナーは、次のサイクルの感光体の露光プロセスにて感光体の光放電を遮蔽して、鮮明なコピー画像の形成を阻害するので、転写プロセス後のクリーニングプロセスは非常に重要なプロセスである。

前記課題を解決する本発明は、tanδ(1Hz)のピーク温度が−10℃より低く、ピークの半価幅が30度以下であり、且つ複素弾性率の外挿から求められるゴム領域の低温側の終了点が0℃より低い熱硬化性ポリウレタンゴムからなる電子写真式画像形成装置用クリーニングブレードにある。

図1に示すように、tanδのピーク温度が−21℃で、半価幅が20度の電子写真用ブレード(実施例1)について、実機でクリーニング、帯電及び現像テストを実施したところ、0℃及び40℃の何れの条件でも優れたクリーニング特性、帯電特性及び現像特性を有することが認められた。なお、実施例1の複素弾性率の外挿により求めたゴム領域の低温側の終了点は、−9℃であった。

一方、比較のため、tanδのピーク温度が約−4℃で、半価幅が約25度の電子写真用ブレード(比較例1とする)と、tanδのピーク温度が約−8℃で、半価幅が約30度の電子写真用ブレード(比較例2とする)にも、同様にクリーニング、帯電及び現像テストを行ったところ、0℃でのクリーニング特性、帯電特性及び現像特性が十分でないことが認められた。なお、比較例1及び2の複素弾性率の外挿により求めたゴム領域の低温側の終了点は、それぞれ2℃及び9℃であった。
