Description
【0001】
DCT変換部103はブロック化された画像信号a[i,j]に対してDCT演算を行い、図2(b)に示すようなDCT係数b[i,j]を生成する。
【0021】
【0022】
そして、図2(d)に示すように、i,jがそれぞれ4未満である画素の逆DCT係数c[i,j]にはDCT係数b[i,j]に選択されたエッジ用フィルタのフィルタ係数s[i,j]を乗じた値、又i,jが4以上である画素の逆DCT係数c[i,j]には零をそれぞれ設定して、縦8画素、横8画素の合計64画素を1ブロックとする逆DCT係数c[i,j]を生成する。

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an image processing method and apparatus, and more particularly to an image processing method and apparatus for enlarging a multivalued image.
[0002]
[Prior art]
In general, in a digital copying machine or the like that processes a digital image, the image is drawn on a photosensitive drum by a laser rather than the resolution of the image input from a scanner or the like that reads the image so that a high-quality digital image can be acquired. The resolution of the output image is set higher. In such a case, the input image needs to be enlarged in order to convert the resolution of the input image into the resolution of the output image.
[0003]
For example, as a method of enlarging a multi-valued image in which one pixel is represented by 8 bits and 256 levels, “Image Processing Handbook” (Mikio Takagi, supervised by Yoshihisa Shimoda, University of Tokyo Press, p.442-443) Are the nearest neighbor interpolation method, bilinear interpolation method, and cubic convolution interpolation method. In the nearest neighbor interpolation method, as shown in FIG. 9A, the image data is interpolated based on the image data at the observation point closest to the position where the image data is to be interpolated, thereby expanding the multi-valued image. I was processing. In the bilinear interpolation method, as shown in FIG. 9B, the image data of the four observation points closest to the position where the image data is to be interpolated, and in the third order interpolation method, As shown in (c), the multi-value image is enlarged by interpolating the image data based on the image data of the 16 observation points closest to the position where the image data is to be interpolated. It was.
[0004]
In addition, in an image enlargement method such as “image enlargement method” described in Japanese Patent No. 2522357, for example, from an image signal of an input image, for example, as shown in FIG. An input image signal xi (m, n) having a total of 16 pixels of 4 horizontal pixels as one block is generated, DCT calculation is performed on this block, and a DCT coefficient Xi (u, v) is calculated. A DCT arithmetic expression in which the block size is vertical N pixels and horizontal N pixels is as shown in
[0005]
[Formula 1]
For example, if the input image is to be enlarged twice, a total of 64 pixels of 8 pixels in the vertical direction and 8 pixels in the horizontal direction as shown in FIG. 10B is taken as one block, and the DCT operation is performed on the low frequency side of the enlarged block. The inverse DCT coefficient Xo (u, v) is generated by setting the coefficient obtained by the above and zero on the high frequency side to make a total of 64 pixels of 8 pixels in the vertical direction and 8 pixels in the horizontal direction as one block. Is subjected to inverse DCT operation to calculate an enlarged image signal xo (m, n) of the enlarged image. The DCT calculation formula is as shown in
[0006]
[Formula 2]
Finally, in order to adjust the density level of the enlarged image signal calculated by the inverse DTC calculation, the enlarged image signal xo (m, n) is multiplied by an enlargement ratio, in this case, twice to enlarge the image. It was.
[0007]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, in the method for enlarging a multi-valued image as described above, if the block to be enlarged includes a steep edge portion, the signal components on the high frequency side of the block are not connected between pixels of the input image. Cannot be linearly interpolated, causing ringing in the enlarged block, resulting in a significant deterioration in image quality.
[0008]
Accordingly, the present invention provides an image processing method and apparatus that suppresses the occurrence of ringing and acquires a high-quality image when enlarging a multi-value image including steep edges. Objective.
[0009]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
In order to achieve the above-described object, the invention according to
[0010]
According to a second aspect of the present invention, in the first aspect of the invention, the second DCT coefficient is obtained by analyzing a feature of an edge of the first block and storing at least two or more in advance based on the analysis result. It is generated by selecting the second predetermined constant corresponding to the feature of the edge of the first block from the second predetermined constant.
[0011]
According to a third aspect of the present invention, in the first aspect of the present invention, the first DCT coefficient is quantized, the quantized first DCT coefficient is entropy-encoded and subjected to a compression process, and the entropy encoding is performed. When the first DCT coefficient is decoded, the entropy-coded first DCT coefficient is decoded to generate the quantized first DCT coefficient, and the low frequency band of the second block A value obtained by multiplying the quantized first DCT coefficient by the predetermined constant is set on the side, and a second DCT coefficient in which zero is set on the high frequency side is generated, and the second DCT coefficient The inverse DCT transform is performed, and the compression process is combined with the multi-value image enlargement process.
[0012]
According to a fourth aspect of the present invention, in the image processing apparatus that performs multi-value image enlargement processing, the first block generation that reads the image signal of the multi-value image in units of blocks including a plurality of pixels and generates a first block Means, first DCT coefficient generation means for generating a first DCT coefficient by performing DCT transformation on the first block, and a second block obtained by multiplying the first block by a predetermined number A second DCT coefficient generator that sets a value obtained by multiplying the first DCT coefficient by a predetermined constant on the low frequency side and generates a second DCT coefficient with zero set on the high frequency side Means, inverse DCT transform means for performing inverse DCT transform on the second DCT coefficient, enlargement processing means for enlarging the multi-valued image, and expanding the first block by nearest neighbor interpolation Live the third block Third block generating means for performing, DCT transform on the third block to generate a third DCT coefficient, and the first block and the third block. Constant generating means for generating the predetermined constant based on the ratio of the DCT coefficients set to the respective corresponding pixels.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
An embodiment of an image processing method and apparatus according to the present invention will be described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings.

Now, an image enlargement processing method will be described with reference to FIG. FIG. 2 is a diagram showing a series of flows for image enlargement processing.
[0019]
Here, the input image consisting of 16 pixels in total, 4 pixels in length and 4 pixels in width per block, is doubled to an image consisting of 64 pixels in length, 8 pixels in width and 8 pixels in width, in total. A description will be given assuming that enlargement processing is performed.
[0020]
First, when an image is input from the
[0021]
Also, based on the edge detection signal output from the edge detection unit 105, as shown in FIG. 2C, the optimum filter coefficient s [] for enlarging the generated image signal a [i, j]. i, j] is selected.
[0022]
Then, as shown in FIG. 2D, the inverse DCT coefficient c [i, j] of the pixels where i and j are each less than 4 includes the edge filter selected for the DCT coefficient b [i, j]. The value obtained by multiplying the filter coefficient s [i, j], or the inverse DCT coefficient c [i, j] of a pixel where i, j is 4 or more is set to zero, and the vertical 8 pixels and the horizontal 8 pixels are set. An inverse DCT coefficient c [i, j] with a total of 64 pixels as one block is generated. An inverse DCT operation is performed on the image signal c [i, j] to generate an enlarged block as shown in FIG.
[0023]
When the image enlargement process is performed, it is necessary to adjust the image density with respect to the block obtained by the inverse DCT calculation. For example, when the image is enlarged twice, the image density is doubled. Here, at the stage of generating the inverse DCT coefficient c [i, j], each coefficient value of the DCT coefficient b [i, j] is already multiplied by the filter coefficient s [i, j]. For this reason, it is not necessary to perform such density adjustment. The filter coefficient set in the filter table is set to an arbitrary value in consideration of the image quality not deteriorating.
[0024]
Now, a method for designing the filter coefficient of the filter table will be described with reference to FIG. FIG. 3 is a diagram showing a series of flows for designing the filter coefficients of the filter table.
[0025]
When the block shown in FIG. 3A generated from the input image is enlarged, the block has the value shown in FIG. The numbers in the figure indicate the gradation of the image expressed in 8 bits per pixel and 256 gradations.
[0026]
When the block shown in FIG. 3A is expanded by nearest neighbor interpolation, the block has coefficient values as shown in FIG. 3B, and the block shown in FIG. 3B is DCT transformed. Then, the DCT coefficient of the block as shown in FIG. Also, the DCT coefficient of the block as shown in FIG. 3C is obtained by performing DCT conversion on the block shown in FIG.
[0027]
Then, the ratio between the horizontal i-th and vertical j-th pixels of the block shown in FIG. 3C and the horizontal i-th and vertical j-th pixels of the block shown in FIG. By applying the ratio to the horizontal i-th and vertical j-th of the block shown in (e), the filter coefficient of the block that generates 4 pixels in the vertical direction and 4 pixels in the horizontal direction for a total of 16 pixels is generated. The block shown in FIG. 3 (c) is a block having a total of 16 pixels of 4 pixels vertically and 4 pixels horizontally, and the block shown in FIG. 3 (d) is 8 pixels vertically and 8 pixels horizontally per block. The total number of pixels is 64 pixels, and the number of pixels in each block is different, but the pixel portion corresponding to the calculation of the ratio is only 16 pixels, and the portion without other corresponding pixels is the value of the filter coefficient. Therefore, the filter coefficient of the block having a total of 16 pixels of 4 vertical pixels and 4 horizontal pixels per block as shown in FIG.
[0028]
In the filter designed in this way,
[0029]
Up to this point, it has been described that the input image is expanded to a block consisting of 4 pixels in the vertical direction and 4 pixels in the horizontal direction into a block consisting of 8 pixels in the vertical direction and 8 pixels in the horizontal direction. The number of pixels of the input image and the number of pixels of the output image may be arbitrary values, and may be arbitrarily set according to the application even if the ratio is to enlarge the input image.
[0030]
Now, the flow of image enlargement processing will be described with reference to FIGS. FIG. 4 is a flowchart showing a series of flows for image enlargement processing, and FIG. 5 is a flowchart showing the flow of filter coefficient multiplication processing in image enlargement processing.

If there is still a pixel in the first column in the horizontal direction (YES in step 254), the process proceeds to the next pixel in the horizontal direction (step 255), and the same processing is performed. Then, the processing is completed for all the pixels in the first horizontal row (NO in step 254), and if there is a next row in the horizontal direction (YES in step 256), the process moves to the second horizontal row. (Step 257), the same processing is performed. If there is no next column in the horizontal direction, that is, if values have been set for all the pixels of the inverse DCT coefficient (NO in step 256), the multiplication process ends.

[0037]
Now, the above-described image enlargement process using the DCT transform is highly compatible with the image compression process. Therefore, a processing example in which image enlargement processing and compression processing are merged will be described.

The inverse quantization unit 157 includes an inverse quantization filter table 156, and based on the inverse quantization value set in the inverse quantization filter table 156, the data decoded by the Huffman decoding unit 155 is inversely quantized. It is to become.
[0042]
Now, with reference to FIG. 7, a method for setting the quantization value and the inverse quantization value of the filter table will be described.
[0043]
FIG. 7 is a diagram illustrating the quantization value and the inverse quantization value set in the filter table.
Normally, if only the image compression processing is performed, the same quantization value may be set in each of the quantization filter table 151 and the inverse quantization filter table 156, but the fusion processing of the image enlargement processing and the compression processing. In the inverse quantization filter table 156, the quantized values shown in FIG. 7A set in the quantization filter table 151 are used for the image enlargement processing shown in FIG. An inverse quantization value as shown in FIG. 7B multiplied by the filter coefficient is set.

【The invention's effect】
In the present invention, when the inverse DCT coefficient is generated, the inverse DCT coefficient is generated by setting a value obtained by multiplying the DCT coefficient by the filter coefficient on the low band side of the block and zero on the wide band side. Therefore, when performing enlargement processing of a multi-value image including a steep edge, generation of ringing can be suppressed and a high-quality image can be acquired.
[0053]
Also, since a plurality of filter tables are prepared in advance, the characteristics of the block of the image are analyzed, and the image enlargement process can be performed while selecting the filter coefficient most suitable for the feature of the block as needed. When enlarging a multi-valued image including an edge, it is possible to acquire a high-quality image while further suppressing deterioration in image quality.
[0054]
In addition, in order to perform image compression processing, a value that takes into account the filter coefficient for performing image enlargement processing is set for the quantization filter table and the inverse quantization filter table in which the quantization value of the image data is set. Thus, the circuit configuration can be simplified because the compression process and the enlargement process can be merged without newly adding a circuit for the enlargement process to the circuit that performs the image compression process.
