画像読み取り装置を備え、読み取った原稿を複写する複写機能にFAX機能やプリンタ機能を複合したいわゆるデジタル複合機が昨今普及してきている。このようなデジタル複合機では、複数の機能を1台の機械に搭載することから信号線の数が増加することは否めなく、この種の機械の終端処理では、信号線の本数増加とともに消費電力が増加する結果となっていた。

前記目的を達成するため、第1の手段は、画像形成手段を有し、他の機能を有するオプション機器を接続して画像形成を行う画像形成装置において、前記オプション機器に電源を供給する第1及び第2の電源ラインと、前記第2の電源ラインにより供給された電源を前記オプション機器から画像形成装置本体側に戻すためのラインと、当該ラインに接続された第1の終端抵抗と、当該第1の終端抵抗に接続された第2の終端抵抗と、前記オプション機器から前記画像形成装置本体側に信号を出力するための信号線と、この出力された信号に基づいて前記オプション機器の前記第1の電源ラインをオンする制御手段とを備え、前記第1の終端抵抗と前記第2の終端抵抗との接続点が前記オプション機器から出力される前記信号線に接続されていることを特徴とする。

図1は本発明の実施形態に係る画像形成装置のシステム構成を示すブロック図である。このシステムは、デジタル複写機1と、このデジタル複写機1にオプションとして接続されたFAXコントローラ1000とからなる。デジタル複写機1は、さらに、操作部100、ADF200、スキャナ/IPU300、プリンタ部400、メイン制御部600、バンク部700、PSU800及びバススイッチ部900から基本的に構成されている。
