【0001】

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an image forming apparatus having a developing device using a two-component developer.
[0002]
[Prior art]
2. Description of the Related Art Image forming apparatuses such as copying machines, facsimile machines, and printers often use a two-component developing device, and toner supply is controlled so that a constant toner density is maintained even when toner is consumed. . Conventionally, the following toner density control methods are known.
1. The density of the reference pattern image created on the image carrier is detected by a reflection type sensor (hereinafter referred to as P sensor) as a reference image density detection means, and toner replenishment control is performed according to the detected value.
2. A toner replenishment control is performed in accordance with a detection value of a toner concentration sensor (hereinafter referred to as a T sensor) as a toner concentration detection means for detecting a change in apparent magnetic permeability in a developer in a developing device.

Therefore, a toner replenishment control system that compensates for each other's problems by combining the
[0005]
In FIG. 10, when copying is completed, it is determined whether the cumulative number has reached 10 based on the previous detection by the P sensor (step 1). If the cumulative number has reached 10, a reference pattern is created and its density is detected by the P sensor (step 2). Next, the correction value ΔVtref of the T sensor is determined from the detection value (Vsp / Vsg) of the P sensor according to Table 1 (step 3).
[Table 1]
[0006]
The target value Vtref of the T sensor is calculated according to Vtref = Vt + ΔVtref, where the value of the T sensor is Vt, and this target value Vtref is stored in the memory (step 4). In
[0007]
In this way, the toner replenishment time is determined from the coefficient α in Table 2 from the difference Vt−Vtref between the detection value Vt of the T sensor and the target value Vtref. According to such control, the P sensor corrects the problem of the T sensor that it cannot follow the change in the developing ability due to the deterioration of the developer and the development conditions of each developer or machine, and during continuous copying Replenishment control can be performed from the detection value of the T sensor.
[Table 2]
[0008]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, in the combination method of the P sensor and the T sensor, the output of the T sensor decreases when left standing depending on the type of carrier of the two-component developer. The output of the T sensor is stabilized by stirring the developer, but there is a problem that it takes time to stabilize. Therefore, until the output of the T sensor is stabilized, the output is low, so that the toner is not supplied. When the target value Vtref is determined by detecting the P sensor in the low state, the target value Vtref is stable. Since the value is smaller than the time value, there is a problem that if continuous copying is performed after that, the toner density increases and background smearing occurs.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
Hereinafter, embodiments of the present invention will be described with reference to the accompanying drawings.

In FIG. 3, when the copying is completed, it is determined whether the cumulative number has reached 10 based on the previous detection by the P sensor 15 (step 1). If the cumulative number has reached 10, a reference pattern is created, and its density is detected by the P sensor 15 (step 2). Next, it is determined whether the completed copy job is a continuous predetermined number of copies or more, for example, eight or more continuous copy jobs (step 3). In the case of the developing apparatus of this example, the predetermined number of sheets is set to 8 because the

In FIG. 4, when a copy start key (not shown) is turned ON, the total number of copies (K) of the copy job at this time is calculated (step 1). Next, it is determined whether the total number of copies (K) is 8 or more (step 2). If the total number of copies (K) is 8 or more, the normal P for performing

[0029]
By the way, when the control shown in the flow of FIG. 3 is performed, there may occur a case where a copy job of less than 8 sheets continues for a long time and the accumulated number reaches 100 sheets or more. At this time, as shown in the graph of FIG. 5, the toner density control level may change between the initial stage and the lapse of time due to a change in the charging ability of the carrier. At this time, since the initial target value Vtref is maintained without being updated, problems such as an increase in toner density occur when continuous copying is performed thereafter.
[0030]
Therefore, in order to prevent such a problem, the present invention performs the control shown in the flow of FIG.
In FIG. 6, when the copy start key is turned on, the total number of copies K of the copy job is calculated (step 1), and then it is determined whether K is 8 or more (step 2). When K is 8 or more, it is determined whether the cumulative number C of copy jobs with K <8 during the period from the previous K ≧ 8 copy job to the current copy job is 100 or more (step 3). If the cumulative number C has reached 100, it is determined whether there are 20 or more copy jobs (step 4). When K ≧ 20, 10 copy jobs are performed, and then temporarily interrupted, the

[0035]
In FIG. 7, after the copy button is turned on, the main motor, the developing motor, the charging bias, the developing bias, and the eraser are simultaneously turned on. After the image formation is completed, the transfer belt solenoid is turned off, and the transfer belt is separated from the photosensitive drum. Usually, if the transfer belt is completely separated from the photosensitive member, a reference density pattern (P pattern) may be formed. However, for example, with a developer using a certain type of magnetite carrier, it takes several seconds until the output of the

In this example, the process is the same up to step 5 indicated by the symbol A in FIG. When the accumulated number of copies reaches 10 or more and a reference pattern is created and its density is detected by the P sensor 15 (step 1), the correction value of the T sensor according to Table 1 from the detection value (Vsp / Vsg) of the P sensor. ΔVtref is determined (step 2). At the same time, the output of the

[0045]
Note that 0.05V in which | Vt′−Vt | ≦ 0.05 V is an arbitrarily set value, and varies depending on the developer used, the size of the developing device, and the amount of the developer.
[0046]
【The invention's effect】
According to the configuration of the first aspect, when the number of copies is small and the T sensor output is low, Vtref is not updated. Therefore, Vtref does not decrease, and the number of copies is small (when the number of copies is small) The toner density can be prevented from increasing when the amount is high.
[0048]
According to the second aspect of the present invention, when a copy operation with a small number of copies continues, Vtref is updated during the copy job. Therefore, even in continuous copying after a job with a small number of copies continues for a long time, Toner control can be reliably performed by changing the charging ability, and problems such as an increase in toner density can be prevented when continuous copying is performed over time.
[0049]
According to the third aspect of the present invention, when correcting the toner density target value, if the output of the toner density detecting means (measuring the magnetic permeability) is unstable, the developing device is idled until it becomes stable, and is already stable. If this is the case, unnecessary idling of the developing device can be reduced by eliminating the idling time of the developing device.
