近年、首都圏各駅の改札口には磁気券を利用した自動改札機が設置されて改札・集札業務の円滑化に貢献している。現在設置されている自動改札機では乗車券を投入してこれを機械的に搬送し、搬送期間中にデータの読み書きを行って、自動改札機に案内表示を行っているが、通行許可の判定に一定の時間がかかり、乗降客が極めて多い場合に迅速な対応ができない場合がある。また、機械的に乗車券を搬送しているため、搬送系のトラブルが生じ易い。この対策として本出願人は、ICカードと自動改札機とを通信可能にし、非接触式で自動改札するシステムを既に提案している(特願平9ー100172号)。

以下、本発明の実施の形態について説明する。

図1において、自動改札機1は所定位置にアンテナ及びリーダ/ライタが設けられ(図示せず)、アンテナコイル(図示せず)が設けられたICカード2を所定位置にかざすと、自動改札機のアンテナとICカードのコイルとの無線結合により、非接触でICカードのデータが読み取られたり、また、ICカードにデータが書き込まれ、非接触で改集札ができるようになっている。もちろん、磁気乗車券による改集札も可能である。
