【0009】
ファイバグレーティングフィルタは、反射特性に対して理想的なほぼ矩形の振幅特性を有するが、帯域内で非常に大きな分散をもつことが指摘されている(文献:G.Nykolak et al.,"Dispersion Penalty Measurements of Narrow Fiber Bragg Gratings at 10Gbit/s, IEEE PTL, vol.10, no.9, 1998) 。

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an optical network system that compensates for transmission characteristic deterioration caused by dispersion of an optical filter constituting an optical cross-connect in a WDM mesh network connected in a mesh form via a plurality of optical cross-connects, and dispersion compensation control thereof Regarding the method.
[0002]
[Prior art]
In a point-to-point long-distance wavelength division multiplexing transmission system, waveform deterioration due to a composite factor of chromatic dispersion of an optical fiber transmission line and a nonlinear optical effect is a main factor of transmission characteristic deterioration. In order to suppress this waveform deterioration, a dispersion compensating fiber having a chromatic dispersion value opposite to that of the optical fiber transmission line is arranged at a certain distance in the optical fiber transmission line, and the accumulated dispersion caused by the dispersion slope of the optical fiber is A method of compensating with a dispersion compensating fiber or the like before the optical receiver is known (Reference: Examination of 10 Gbit / s / ch WDM transmission system using dispersion management, IEICE Technical Report, OCS96-57).
[0003]
In recent years, in a point-to-point wavelength division multiplexing transmission system, as shown in FIG. 8, the wavelength division multiplexing
[0004]
FIG. 9 shows a configuration example of the 2 × 2 optical cross connect 4. In the figure, the second ports of the optical circulator 41-1 and the optical circulator 41-2 are connected via 2 × 2 optical switches 42-1 to 42-9 and fiber gratings 43-1 to 43-8 alternately. The input port IN1 and the output port OUT1 are connected to the first port and the third port of the optical circulator 41-1, and the input port IN2 and the output port OUT2 are connected to the first port and the third port of the optical circulator 41-2. .
[0005]
The fiber grating filters 43-1 to 43-8 reflect wavelengths λ1 to λ8 and transmit other wavelengths, respectively. Each of the 2 × 2 optical switches 42-1 to 42-9 is set to a cross state or a bar state, and a fiber grating (combination of reflection wavelength and transmission wavelength) inserted between optical circulators according to the combination. Will be determined. Here, the 2 × 2 optical switches 42-1 to 42-8 are set to the cross state, the 2 × 2 optical switches 42-9 are set to the bar state, and the fiber gratings 43-2, 43-4, and 43-6. 43-8 are inserted between the optical circulators to form an optical cross-connect having reflection wavelengths λ2, λ4, λ6, λ8 and transmission wavelengths λ1, λ3, λ5, λ7.
[0006]
In the configuration of FIG. 9, among the optical paths of wavelengths λ1 to λ8 input from the input port IN1, the optical paths of wavelengths λ2, λ4, λ6, and λ8 are reflected and output from the output port OUT1, and optical paths of other wavelengths. Is output from the output port OUT2. Similarly, among the optical paths of wavelengths λ1 to λ8 input from the input port IN2, the optical paths of wavelengths λ2, λ4, λ6, and λ8 are reflected and output from the output port OUT2, and the optical paths of other wavelengths are output ports. Output from OUT1. Therefore, when “A” is added to the input optical path from the input port IN1 and “B” is added to the input optical path from the input port IN2, the optical paths shown in the figure are output to the output ports OUT1 and OUT2, respectively. The
[0007]
Here, the “fiber grating filter existing in the optical path” is a fiber grating filter that reflects an optical signal wavelength. For example, in the configuration of FIG. 9, the optical path having the wavelength Aλ2 input from the input port IN1 is reflected by the fiber grating filter 43-2 and output from the output port OUT1, so that “a fiber grating filter exists in the optical path. " On the other hand, the optical path of the wavelength Aλ3 input from the input port IN1 is output from the output port OUT2 by bypassing or passing through the fiber grating filters 43-1 to 43-8. There is no fiber grating filter.
[0008]
By the way, in the reconfiguration of the optical cross connect, the combination of the reflection wavelength and the transmission wavelength can be changed by switching the state of the 2 × 2 optical switch. For example, an optical path having a wavelength λ3 that is input from the input port IN1 and output to the output port OUT2 is reflected by a fiber grating 43-3 having a reflection wavelength λ3 and output to the output port OUT1. By setting the two optical switches, it is possible to change the path of the optical path. At this time, the number of “fiber grating filters existing in the optical path” is increased by one. Along with the change of the path of the optical path, the increase / decrease of the fiber grating filter existing in the optical path causes the following problems.
[0009]
It is pointed out that the fiber grating filter has an almost rectangular amplitude characteristic that is ideal for reflection characteristics, but has a very large dispersion in the band (reference: G. Nykolak et al., "Dispersion Penalty"). Measurements of Narrow Fiber Bragg Gratings at 10 Gbit / s, IEEE PTL, vol.10, no.9, 1998) Note that the dispersion characteristics for reflected signals are sufficiently larger than the dispersion characteristics for transmitted signals. Here, the problem is chromatic dispersion associated with the difference between the signal wavelength and the reflection wavelength within the reflection band.

FIG. 10 shows chromatic dispersion characteristics and reflection characteristics of a fiber grating filter with a 3 dB bandwidth of 0.57 nm. The horizontal axis indicates the difference between the signal wavelength and the reflection center wavelength of the fiber grating filter, the left vertical axis indicates the dispersion value, and the right vertical axis indicates the reflectance. A solid line indicates each characteristic when one stage is connected, and a broken line indicates each characteristic when eight stages are connected. As shown in FIG. 10, it can be seen that, when connected in one stage, it has a chromatic dispersion of 25 ps / nm at the center wavelength and −200 to 200 ps / nm within the 3 dB band. It can also be seen that when connected in 8 stages, it has a chromatic dispersion of −600 to 1000 ps / nm within the 3 dB band narrowed to 200 ps / nm at the center wavelength and 0.43 nm.
[0011]
From this characteristic, it can be seen that if the signal wavelength and the reflection center wavelength of the fiber grating filter are shifted, the wavelength dispersion of the fiber grating filter becomes a value that cannot be ignored. Therefore, even in a long-distance WDM mesh network, the chromatic dispersion of the fiber grating filter existing in the optical path cannot be ignored, and this chromatic dispersion is similar to the chromatic dispersion of the optical fiber transmission line and the nonlinear optical effect of the optical fiber. Combined factors cause significant waveform degradation.
[0012]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
Conventionally, as described above, only the dispersion compensation method for the chromatic dispersion and dispersion slope of the optical fiber transmission line is used, and the transmission characteristic deterioration due to the chromatic dispersion of the fiber grating filter used in the optical cross-connect is not taken into consideration. No compensation method has been studied.
[0013]
Note that the chromatic dispersion of the fiber grating filter existing in the optical path is handled in the same way as the chromatic dispersion of the optical fiber described above, and a method of compensating with the dispersion compensation fiber together with the accumulated dispersion of the optical fiber in the previous stage of the optical receiver is also considered. However, there is a problem that the optical path cannot be flexibly changed. As shown in FIG. 8, when an optical path change (optical path resetting) occurs due to a failure or the like, the position and number of fiber grating filters in the optical path change, and should be compensated at the front stage of the optical receiver. This is because the amount of dispersion compensation also changes each time.
[0014]
The present invention is based on the chromatic dispersion of an optical filter existing in an optical path in a WDM mesh network that enables an optical path to be reset due to a failure of an optical fiber transmission line connected in a mesh form via an optical cross-connect. An object of the present invention is to provide an optical network system and a dispersion compensation control method thereof that automatically improve the transmission characteristic degradation.
[0015]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
In the present invention, opposing wavelength division multiplexing optical transmitters and wavelength division multiplexing optical receivers are connected in a mesh shape via an optical fiber transmission line and a plurality of optical cross connects, and the optical cross connect sets an optical path according to the wavelength. In an optical network system that includes an optical filter and that switches to a path that avoids a fault location by resetting an optical path (wavelength) when a fault occurs in an optical fiber transmission line in the setup path, It has a chromatic dispersion characteristic table showing chromatic dispersion values with respect to the input wavelengths of all the optical filters of the cross-connect, and means for recognizing the optical filter existing in the optical path. An optical filter monitoring device for calculating a chromatic dispersion value of an optical filter existing in the optical filter and calculating a dispersion compensation amount for canceling the chromatic dispersion value, and each wavelength pair of the WDM optical receiver A variable dispersion compensator that is inserted in the preceding stage of the optical receiver and capable of setting a predetermined chromatic dispersion value, and chromatic dispersion corresponding to the dispersion compensation amount calculated by the optical filter monitoring device is set in the variable dispersion compensator. And a dispersion compensation amount control device that automatically compensates for chromatic dispersion caused by the optical filter when the optical filter existing in the optical path changes due to resetting of the optical path.
[0016]
The optical network system of the present invention further includes a wavelength meter that detects the wavelength of the received optical signal of the optical receiver and notifies the optical filter monitoring device of the wavelength information, and the optical filter monitoring device uses the wavelength information based on the wavelength information. This is a configuration in which a chromatic dispersion value of an optical filter existing in the optical path is obtained with reference to the dispersion characteristic table, and a dispersion compensation amount for canceling the chromatic dispersion value is calculated.
[0017]
The optical cross-connect includes at least one fiber grating filter that reflects light of a predetermined wavelength as an optical filter.
[0018]
The tunable dispersion compensator has a configuration using a chirped fiber grating filter that thermally changes the dispersion compensation amount.
[0019]
In addition, the present invention, as a dispersion compensation control method for an optical network system, recognizes an optical filter existing in the optical path, and refers to a chromatic dispersion characteristic table for the optical filter present in the optical path, and sets its chromatic dispersion value. And calculating a dispersion compensation amount that cancels it, performing dispersion compensation of the received optical signal based on the dispersion compensation amount, and compensating for waveform degradation caused by chromatic dispersion of an optical filter existing in the optical path. 5).

<Evaluation system of the present invention system>
Regarding the optical network system of the present invention, an evaluation system in which eight stages of fiber grating filters in the optical path are connected is configured, and the transmission characteristics (electrical SNR) are measured by a 10 Gbit / s × 8 WDM 4,256 km loop transmission experiment. explain. Here, a series of controls such as control from the optical

[0034]
FIG. 5 shows a measurement result of electrical SNR degradation of ch6 within the reflection band of the fiber grating filter. Here, the electrical SNR degradation is defined as a difference from the electrical SNR in the case of no fiber grating filter. The electrical SNR without the fiber grating filter is the SNR when the accumulated dispersion due to the dispersion slope of the optical fiber transmission line is compensated. The compensation amount at this time is −400 ps / nm. Therefore, in the measurement in which the fiber grating filter is arranged in the transmission line, the case where the tunable dispersion compensator is fixed to −400 ps / nm and the case where the dispersion compensation amount is optimized so as to cancel out the chromatic dispersion characteristic of FIG. evaluated.
[0035]
When the dispersion compensation amount is fixed to −400 ps / nm, the SNR degradation is greater than the amplitude characteristic of the fiber grating filter obtained by simulation. This is presumably because the SNR deteriorated due to the waveform deterioration due to the combined effect of the dispersion of the fiber grating and the nonlinear optical effect of the optical fiber. When the dispersion compensation amount at the receiving end is optimized so as to cancel out the chromatic dispersion characteristics shown in FIG. 10, the SNR level can be improved almost considering only the amplitude characteristics. The optimum dispersion compensation amount was when the positive accumulated dispersion was compensated with 100 to 600 ps / nm remaining as shown in FIG. Thus, it can be seen that in the present invention, better transmission characteristics can be obtained by compensating for a slight amount of positive dispersion.
[0036]
Next, the effective range of the present invention will be described. FIG. 6 shows a result obtained by simulation of the relationship between the accumulated dispersion of the fiber grating filter and the SNR deterioration. The figure also shows the experimental results obtained from FIG. When a fiber grating filter is treated as a dispersion medium and distributed in a 4200 km transmission line (□), when eight fiber grating filters are periodically arranged (◯), one fiber The case where the grating filter is concentrated at the transmission end (Δ) was examined. The dispersion slope of the optical fiber transmission line and fiber grating filter was ignored. Other conditions are the same as in the above experiment.
[0037]
When eight fiber grating filters are periodically arranged, the SNR degradation is almost equal to the case where they are distributed, and the effective range is −1300 ps / nm to 2400 ps / nm when the SNR degradation is 1 dB as a limit. became. This is consistent with the experimental results. Further, when one fiber grating filter is arranged at the transmission end, the SNR degradation is most remarkable, and the effective range is −500 ps / nm to 1200 ps / nm.
[0038]
FIG. 7 shows the results of simulations and experiments on the relationship between the accumulated dispersion due to the fiber grating filter and the SNR degradation with the optical path length being 6400 km. The conditions are the same as in the simulation of FIG. 6, but the number of fiber grating filters in the transmission path is set to 12 because the optical path length is extended. Even in the case where the optical path length is 6400 km, the present invention can compensate for the transmission characteristic deterioration due to the chromatic dispersion of the fiber grating filter. The effective range is −1300ps / nm to 2400ps / nm when 12 fiber grating filters are periodically arranged. When one fiber grating filter, which is the worst condition, is arranged at the transmitting end, − It became 500ps / nm-1200ps / nm.
[0039]
【The invention's effect】
As described above, the optical network system and the dispersion compensation control method of the present invention grasps the optical filter (fiber grating filter) existing in the optical path and refers to the corresponding chromatic dispersion characteristic table to determine the chromatic dispersion. Dispersion compensation can be performed by calculating a dispersion compensation amount that is obtained and canceling it. Therefore, even when the setting of the optical path is changed, it is possible to automatically improve the transmission characteristic deterioration due to the chromatic dispersion of the optical filter existing in the optical path.
