本発明は、画像出力装置のキャリブレーションシステムおよびキャリブレーション方法に関するものである。

【従来の技術】
カラープリンタなどの画像出力装置の特性は、個々の画像出力装置毎に決定されている。しかし、この特性は、ユーザーの使い方、例えば、画像を出力する媒体によって影響されるものであり、一つの画像出力装置に対してただ一つの特性を決定することはできない。しかし、従来は、ユーザーの使い方に応じて個々の画像出力装置毎の特性を得ることは行われていなかった。

したがって、経年変化等により画像出力装置の入出力特性が変化した場合にも、その画像出力装置の特性を修正することはできなかった。

また、画像の印字方法を変更した場合にも、その変更に応じて、入出力特性を適応的に変化させるということができなかった。

よって本発明の目的は、上述の点に鑑み、個々の画像出力装置毎に入出力特性を適宜算出できるようにした画像出力装置のキャリブレーションシステムおよびキャリブレーション方法を提供することにある。

【課題を解決するための手段】
上記の目的を達成するために、本発明に係るキャリブレーションシステムは、画像出力装置としてシアン・マゼンタ・イエロー・ブラックのインクを混ぜることでカラー画像を形成するカラープリンタを用い、該画像出力装置の入出力特性を算出するキャリブレーションシステムであって、前記画像出力装置から出力されたオリジナルパッチデータを可視化する出力手段と、可視化された前記オリジナルパッチデータを読み込む入力手段と、前記画像出力装置から出力されたオリジナルパッチデータと、前記入力手段により読み込まれた入力パッチデータとに基づいて、前記画像出力装置の入出力特性を算出する演算手段と、前記入出力特性を所定のファイルに記述する記述手段とを具備し、前記カラープリンタの印字方法に対応した入出力特性を複数前記演算手段により算出し、前記記述手段により記述するものである。
ここで、前記ファイルを参照することにより前記画像出力装置のキャリブレーションを行うこと、前記オリジナルパッチデータとして段階的濃度変化のあるパッチデータを用いること、前記入力手段としてカラースキャナを用いること、が可能である。
本発明に係るキャリブレーション方法は、画像出力装置としてシアン・マゼンタ・イエロー・ブラックのインクを混ぜることでカラー画像を形成するカラープリンタを用い、該画像出力装置の入出力特性を算出するにあたり、前記画像出力装置から出力されたオリジナルパッチデータを可視化し、可視化された前記オリジナルパッチデータを読み込み、前記画像出力装置から出力されたオリジナルパッチデータと、前記入力手段により読み込まれた入力パッチデータとに基づいて、前記カラープリンタの印字方法に対応した入出力特性を複数算出し、前記入出力特性を所定のファイルに記述するものである。

【発明の実施の形態】
図1は、本発明を適用したキャリブレーションシステムの一例を示す。図2はカラープリンタ等の画像出力装置から可視出力したオリジナルパッチデータ(濃度の段階的表示)を示す。

図1に示したキャリブレーションシステムでは、カラープリンタ等の画像出力装置を用いて図2に示すようなオリジナルパッチデータ(パッチ6)を可視出力させる出力部1と、この出力部1により出力されたパッチ6をスキャナ等の画像入力装置で読み取らせる入力部2と、上記オリジナルパッチデータおよび入力部2により読み取られた入力パッチデータを格納するメモリ3と、メモリ3に格納されたオリジナルパッチデータとメモリ3に格納された入力パッチデータとを比較して画像出力装置の特性を算出する算出部4と、算出部4により算出された画像出力装置の特性をプロファイルデータとしてファイルなどに記述する記述部5とを含んでいる。

このように構成された画像出力装置のキャリブレーションシステムにおいては、出力部1の機能により予め格納されているオリジナルパッチデータが画像出力装置(例えば、プリンタ)からパッチ6として可視化される。
