この発明は、折りたたんだ状態の幅寸及び嵩が小さく、軽快に持ち運びできる折りたたみ自転車の技術分野に属する。

【従来の技術】
近頃のエコロジーブームなどの影響で、折りたたみ自転車は通勤時などにおいて自宅から最寄りの駅まで利用され、一旦折りたたんで電車に持ち込まれ、下車した後に再び組み立てられて目的地まで利用されるケースが多い。

通例、折りたたみ自転車は前後の車輪のホイールが同径のスポークタイプであり、その前輪及び後輪の回転軸は、それぞれフロントフォーク及びフレームによって両端支持されている。そして、折りたたむ際には、フレームの側面に設けられたヒンジ機構の連結軸によって、前輪と後輪とが並列に配置されるように折りたたまれる。

【本発明が解決しようとする課題】
上記折りたたみ自転車は、折りたたむと前後の車輪が並列に配置されるので、幅寸(通例350mm程度)及び嵩が約2倍にも大きくなり、持ち運びに不便であり、しかも電車などに持ち込んだ際に場所をとり、他の乗客に迷惑である。

また、車体重量が通例10kg程度(最軽量でも6kg程度)あり、駅などの階段が多い施設内で持ち運ぶには重労働である。

上記従来技術の課題を解決するための手段として、請求項1に記載した発明に係る折りたたみ自転車は、

この自転車を折りたたむ際は、先ず前記屈曲部16の下部16aがフロントフレーム6の屈曲部通過溝6cを通過できるように、サドル1のポスト15を固定していたロック機構を解除し(図示を省略)、同サドル1を図6の矢印方向へ回転させる。次に、図7に示すように、前記屈曲部16の下部16aを屈曲部通過溝6cへ通過させ、同下部16aがリアフレーム8の凹み部8bへ完全に収納されるまでサドル1を押し下げる。その状態で、前記屈曲部16を利用してフロントフレーム6の後端部6bを逃がして、同フロントフレーム6を図7の矢印方向へ回転させる。その回転と合わせてサドル1を同じ方向へ回転させ、上記屈曲部16をリアフレーム8の凹み部8bから逃がし(回転させ)、リアフレーム8上から排除させる(図8を参照)。このとき、折りたたんだ状態での幅寸を一層小さくし、意匠性に優れるように、サドル1を図8に示すように進行方向へ向かう位置まで回転させる。
