本発明は、コネクタなどに接続されるフラットケーブルの端末部に関する。

電気機器などに搭載される部品の実装密度が上がると、フラットケーブルに接続されるコネクタ内の端子の配列ピッチが小さくなるので、フラットケーブルの端末部の接続端子の配列ピッチも小さくする必要がある。
従来は、偏平導体の配列ピッチよりもフラットケーブルの端部の接続端子の配列ピッチを小さくするために、例えば図4(a)、(b)に示すような手段をとっていた(特開平8−195232号公報参照)。
即ち、フラットケーブル1の端末部近傍において、偏平導体2の導体端部2bを接続すべき接続端子3の幅に合わせた先細構造にし、前記導体端部2bを前記接続端子3に接続している。そして、先細構造により電気抵抗が大きくなった導体端部2bにおける発熱を放散させるために、導体端部2bに隣接して幅広導体部2aを設けている。4は偏平導体2を挟む絶縁フィルムである。

しかしながら、上述のフラットケーブルの端末部には以下のような問題があった。即ち、幅広導体部を設けるため、フラットケーブル自体の幅が広くなる。また、偏平導体を先細構造を有する形状に加工するため、一様な幅を有する偏平導体に加工するに比して、導体材料の加工歩留りが低下する。

本発明は上記問題点を解決すべくなされたもので、請求項1記載の発明は、複数の偏平導体を有するフラットケーブルの前記各偏平導体の端末に、必要に応じてピッチ調整用の曲げ部を有し、かつ、放熱用の起立部を設けた接続端子を、それらの先端部が所望のピッチをなすように接続したことを特徴とするフラットケーブルの端末部である。

以下、図面に基づいて本発明の実施の形態を詳細に説明する。
図1(a)、(b)はそれぞれ、本発明にかかるフラットケーブルの端末部の一実施形態の平面図およびその縦断面図である。
図において、フラットケーブル10は4本の偏平導体11を上下両面から絶縁フィルム12により被覆して形成したものである。そして、接続端子13が、絶縁フィルム12が剥離されて露出した一様な幅の偏平導体11の端部に、超音波溶接などによって強固に固定されている。
4本の接続端子13は異なった形状をしている。即ち、内側の偏平導体11に接続する2本の接続端子13は、直線形状をしており、偏平部13bで偏平導体11に固定されている。また、外側の2本の接続端子13は、偏平部13bで内側に曲げられ、偏平部13bがピッチ調整用の曲げ部となっている。そして、これら4本の接続端子13の先端の嵌合部13cの配列ピッチは、偏平導体11の配列ピッチよりも小さい、所望のピッチ(例えば、接続する相手コネクタの端子ピッチ)になっている。
