この発明は、プロッタ、ファクシミリなどの画像形成装置、とくに記録材を所定長さに切断するような装置の、記録材カッタ装置に関するものである。

【従来技術と解決すべき課題】
上記のような周知の画像形成装置における記録材切断用カッタ装置は、専用のモータ、ソレノイド等によって切断時には作動位置に持ちきたされ、不作動時には退避して危険を回避できるように構成してあるのが普通である。

例えば、実開昭57ー3974号公報には、印字用のヘッドを搭載してプラテンに沿って往復動するキャリッジに連動して、記録材を切断するにあたり、マグネットを駆動源として作動位置と退避位置との間を往復するようにして安全を確保するとともに、さらに、切断時には別設の記録材押え部材が記録材を押圧して良好な切断を可能ならしめるように構成したものが開示されている。

このように、カッタ装置には、通常、専用の駆動源を必要とするとともに、記録材押え部材を別設するなど、そのためのスペースを要し、コストアップをも招来することを免れなかった。

本発明はこのような事態に対処すべくなされたものであって、簡単で安価な構成によって、非切断時にはカッタを安全な退避位置に後退させ得るようなカッタ装置を担持する画像形成装置を提供することを目的とするものである。

上記の目的を達成するため、本発明は、記録材を走行するカッタで切断するように構成した画像形成装置の記録材切断装置において、非切断時には退避位置にあるカッタ刃を覆い、切断時には被切断記録材を押圧保持する記録材押え部材を備えてなる記録材切断装置、または、
上記のものにおいて、記録材押え部材が、自重によってカッタ刃を覆う位置と、記録材押圧位置との間を揺動自在に回動変位するとともに、カッタ刃が出没可能のスリットを具備する記録材切断装置である。

このように構成することによって、極めて簡単な構成で不使用時にはカッタ刃を確実に被覆して安全を確保するとともに、切断時には記録材の位置を安定させた状態で切断を行うことが可能である。
