[0010]
The in-line type color image forming apparatus as described above can print at a very high speed compared to the conventional type in which a four-color full-color image is once formed on an intermediate transfer body and a full-color print image is obtained by collective secondary transfer. There is an advantage.
[0011]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, the color image forming apparatus described above has the following weak points. That is, in the case of an image forming apparatus without an intermediate transfer member such as a B / W printer, the distance from the laser exposure position on the photosensitive member to the transfer point may be longer than the distance from the registration position sensor to the transfer point. Therefore, when the transfer material reaches the resist position, laser exposure is performed to align the transfer material with the image position. Therefore, when there is no transfer material, that is, when there is no paper, the laser exposure is not performed because the resist position sensor does not react.
[0012]
The relationship between the image forming timing and the paper feed timing of the image forming apparatus using the intermediate transfer member will be described below.
[0013]
When forming an image on the intermediate transfer member, the first sheet can be fed immediately after the start of printing before the laser exposure timing of the first color. However, paper feed during continuous printing is later than the image exposure timing of the first color due to the device configuration in order to obtain the maximum throughput. Actually, the sheet is fed after an image is formed on the intermediate transfer member.
[0014]
In particular, in the inline type image forming apparatus using the intermediate transfer body of the four-drum type shown in FIG. 8, the distance from the laser exposure position of the first color to the secondary transfer point is determined by the inside of the cassette serving as the transfer material stacking and holding means. Is often longer than the distance from the position of the paper presence / absence detection sensor, which is the transfer material presence / absence detection means, provided to the secondary transfer point. In such a case, when it is detected that there is no paper, that is, no transfer material in the cassette, an image has already been formed on the photosensitive member and the intermediate transfer member.
[0015]
Since the toner formed on the intermediate transfer body has no paper to be transferred, all of the large amount of untransferred toner image must be scraped off by the intermediate transfer body cleaner, causing scattering, waste of toner, print retransmission request, etc. Such a problem significantly impairs usability.
[0016]
Therefore, a main object of the present invention is to provide a color image forming apparatus capable of eliminating a wasteful toner image formed on a second image carrier.
[0017]
Another object of the present invention is to provide a color image forming apparatus capable of suppressing wasteful consumption and scattering of toner and improving usability and operability.
[0018]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
The above object is achieved by a color image forming apparatus according to the present invention. In summary, the present invention forms a color toner image by primary-transferring toner images formed on a plurality of photoconductors sequentially onto an intermediate transfer member , and further forms the color toner image at a secondary transfer position. In a color image forming apparatus that performs secondary transfer to a transfer material,
Charging means for charging the photoconductor,
Exposure means for forming an electrostatic latent image by exposing the photoconductor charged by the charging means at a predetermined exposure position according to an image signal,
Developing means for developing the electrostatic latent image formed by the exposure means to form the toner image;
Loading means for loading the transfer material conveyed to the secondary transfer position;
A remaining amount detecting unit for detecting a remaining amount of the transfer material loaded on the loading unit,
Presence / absence detection means for detecting the presence / absence of a transfer material loaded on the loading means at a predetermined detection position,
Control means for controlling exposure timing by the exposure means according to the detection result of the remaining amount detection means,
A first distance from the predetermined exposure position on the photoconductor of the first color to the secondary transfer position is equal to or greater than a second distance from the predetermined detection position to the secondary transfer position;
The control means,
When the remaining amount of the transfer material stacked on the stacking unit is larger than a predetermined amount, the distance between the images of the plurality of color toner images formed on the intermediate transfer body is equal to the first distance and the second distance. Controlling the exposure timing so as to be shorter than the distance difference,
When the remaining amount of the transfer material stacked on the stacking unit is equal to or smaller than a predetermined amount, the distance between the images of the plurality of color toner images formed on the intermediate transfer body is equal to or larger than the difference. A color image forming apparatus that controls exposure timing .
[0019]
According to one embodiment of the present invention, there is provided a sheet feeding unit for feeding the transfer material from the stacking unit, and the predetermined detection position is a position upstream of the sheet feeding unit in the transport direction of the transfer material.
According to another embodiment of the present invention, the loading unit has a bottom plate that loads the transfer material and moves up and down according to the remaining amount of the transfer material, and the remaining amount detection unit includes a position of the bottom plate. The remaining amount of the transfer material is detected based on the output value of the sensor, the output of which changes in accordance with. Further, according to another embodiment, the loading means has a bottom plate that loads the transfer material and moves up and down according to the remaining amount of the transfer material, and an elastic member that urges the bottom plate upward. The remaining amount detecting unit detects the remaining amount of the transfer material based on an output value of a sensor that detects a pressure from the elastic member via the bottom plate.
