上記三角停止板としては、折り畳み式に構成された三角停止板が一般的であり、その三角停止板をケースに収納してトランクルーム内に置いておくようにしている。
前記三角停止板は、道路に自立させることができると共に道路に置いても後方車両に確実に認識させる必要があることから、重い台座等を必要とするだけでなく、本体自体が比較的大きなものになっており、特に小さなトランクルーム内には非常に邪魔になっていた。又、トランクルーム内が荷物で一杯になっている状態において三角停止板を直ちに取り出すことができず、不便であった。

前記トランクリッドの裏面に三角停止板を設置しているものでは、トランクリッドを開放状態にしているときは、常に三角停止板にて後方車両に対して緊急事態を報せる構成であるため、長時間開放状態にすることができない。例えば、トランクルーム内の荷物を何回かに分けて車両から離れた場所へ降ろす場合等においては、トランクリッドを開放状態にして荷物を降ろす度に一々トランクリッドを閉じなければならないだけでなく、次回の荷下ろし時には、閉じたトランクリッドを再度開放しなければならず、荷下ろしが非常に煩わしいものになる不都合が発生していた。
又、三角停止板が板状であるとしても、トランクリッドの裏面に突出するものであるため、トランクルームの空間が少なくなるだけでなく、満杯状態のトランクルーム内の荷物が三角停止板に接当して三角停止板を損傷してしまう等のトラブル発生を招くものであった。

上記のようにバックドアの周面と車体との隙間を収納姿勢の板状部材の収納スペースとして利用することによって、板状部材をトランクルーム内に突出させることなく設置することができる。そして、三角停止板として使用する場合には、バックドアを開放状態にした後、板状部材を収納姿勢から三角形状を構成する使用姿勢に姿勢変更することによって、バックドアの周面から吊り下げた状態にすることができる。
