本発明は、複写機、ファクシミリ、プリンタ、印刷機等の画像形成装置に係り、特に、装置本体の下部に多段の給紙トレイを配置し、装置本体の前面から給紙トレイを着脱するフロント給紙方式の画像形成装置に適用される用紙搬送装置に関する。

【従来の技術】
複写機の高速化に伴い、給紙装置も大容量化が要求され、装置本体の下部に多段の給紙トレイを配置した給紙装置が一般的となっている。
このような給紙装置を備えた複写機の用紙搬送装置にあっては、一般に給紙トレイの上方に位置する作像部(感光体及びその周囲の帯電、露光、現像、転写、分離、クリーニングなどの電子プロセス手段)や、その下流側の定着部に用紙を搬送するための略垂直の搬送路(第1の搬送路)及びそれに続く略水平の搬送路(第2の搬送路)を有している。そして、第1、第2の搬送路の間には用紙を反転(略直角に向きを変える)させる搬送ガイド板を設けている。
一方、上記のような多段の給紙トレイを有する大容量給紙装置を備えた複写機の場合、装置本体の前面(手前面)のドアを開けて、給紙トレイを着脱する、いわゆるフロント給紙方式が一般的となっている。このようなフロント給紙方式を採用することによって、装置本体の側面に、さらにオプションの外付給紙装置を装着することが可能になった。
