Description
【0001】
【0006】
上述したようなデータ通信に用いられるケーブルモデムにおいては、DOCSIS(Data Over Cable Service InterfaceSpecification)がインタフェース標準仕様として用いられている。
【0007】

FIG. 10 is a flowchart showing an incoming operation of electronic mail incoming information by a cable modem according to another embodiment of the present invention. In FIG. 10, a cable modem according to another embodiment of the present invention is equipped with a protocol [POP (Post Office Protocol) 3 or the like] for confirming incoming mail, and the cable modem itself periodically sends a mail server (FIG. 10). Inquiry is made to the second management server 4), and when the mail has arrived at the user, the
[0052]
In another embodiment of the present invention, the cable modem first adds a mail server IP (Internet Protocol) address, a user name, and a password to a configuration file for the cable modem in a server in the CATV station (step S31 in FIG. 10).
[0053]
The cable modem periodically confirms the incoming mail to the mail server specified in the configuration file (Step S32 in FIG. 10), and determines whether or not it is a new incoming call (Step S33 in FIG. 10). If there is a new incoming call, the cable modem turns on the LED of the cable modem indicating the incoming call (step S34 in FIG. 10), and if there is no new incoming call, turns off the LED (step S35 in FIG. 10).
[0054]
This allows for the addition of these new settings using configuration type values that are not specified in the DOCSIS specification, without loss of compatibility with the DOCSIS specification. A function using a certain constant connection can be realized.
[0055]
【The invention's effect】
As described above, according to the present invention, in a cable modem using DOCSIS as an interface standard, information from a CATV station added to a signal for maintaining signal characteristics on a cable is detected, and the detection result is obtained. The notification to the outside has an effect that a function using a constant connection to the CATV station can be realized.
