排出ロ−ラ9,10(両ロ−ラは同期回転)により排出
されるが,この間,センサS2の信号によりサ−マルヘ
ッド8への搬送工程が制御される。一方,インクリボン
11は供給スプ−ル12からガイドロ−ラ13,14に
案内されてプラテンロ−ラ7とサ−マルヘッド8の間で
用紙2と一緒になり,Y,M,C等の各色エリアのイン
クリボンの往復印字動作によって所要のカラ−プリント
が行われた後,サ−マルヘッドの先端部で用紙2と分離
されてガイドロ−ラ15を経て巻取スプ−ル16に巻き

色の印刷開始位置までの用紙の搬送を制御する信号を出
す。この印字動作を更に詳しく説明すると,次の通りで
ある。即ち,用紙カセット1にある用紙2のサイズが,

るコンピュ−タに伝え,同コンピュ−タからその用紙に

2は進んでくる用紙2の先端を検出してCPUに信号を
送り,用紙2がサ−マルヘッドの下のプリントされる所
定の位置に達したら停止させ,先ず,Y(黄色)のプリ
ントが行われるが,この時の用紙2は排出ロ−ラ9(回
転速度は送りロ−ラ4の回転速度より少々早い)に引っ
張られてプリントドットラインが移動する。Y(黄色)

に行われるが,手差し給紙の場合には,カセット1にセ
ットされている用紙とは異なるサイズの用紙を使用する
ことが殆どであると共にその用紙サイズが種々の大きさ
の用紙を用いてプリントすることになるから,カセット
用の用紙検出センサS1とは別に独立した手差し給紙時
に使用する各種サイズの用紙に合わせて多数のセンサ,
例えばS4〜S8を配置する必要があり,このことはコス
トアップになると共にこれらセンサの設置面積も必要と
なるので,これに対処する方法が要望されていた。本発
明は従来のものの上記課題(問題点)を解決するように
したカラ−プリンタにおける用紙長さの検出方法を提供
することを目的とする。 【0004】 【課題を解決するための手段】本発明のカラープリンタ
における用紙長さの検出方法は,カラープリンタのサー
マルヘッドの所定位置まで用紙を搬送するための信号を
出す機能を有する第1のセンサと,その下流に配置され
Y(黄),M(赤),C(青)等の各色の印字開始位置
までの用紙搬送のための信号を出す機能を有する第2の
センサとを用い,カラープリンタにおける手差し給紙の
