Description

This invention relates to a writing instrument whose nib and barrel are made of glass.

A decorative writing instrument with a message transmission function is described in Patent Document 1. However, in this decoration method, inserting a long, thin piece of paper media or the like to transmit a message into the limited, small space of the ballpoint pen barrel is difficult to arrange in an attractive manner, as there is no support and the media will tend to bend. Also, from the perspective of the material, plastic is less transparent than glass, so the visibility of the message transmission display is thought to be low.

This invention uses a resin or glass plate as a base material, and can easily insert original label tape beautifully printed using a commercially available label printer, affixed to the plate, into the inside of the glass tube. Also, by inserting a paper message card or the like into the front or back of the plate, the paper can be inserted flat without bending and into the inside of the glass tube, making it possible to arrange it in an attractive manner.
This invention will dramatically increase the demand for glass pens, which are glass writing implements originating in Japan, as gift products with message transmission functions in a wide range of fields and industries other than the stationery industry. In addition, because the writing implement body is entirely made of glass except for the stopper that seals the lid, it has a more luxurious feel than plastic ones, and is highly transparent and beautiful.

The glass writing instrument of this invention is made by fusing a glass nib and the closed side of a glass tube, one side of which is closed and the other side is open, using the flame of a burner. It is preferable to fuse a glass handle between the glass nib and the glass tube, as this makes it easier to hold when writing.
A message display body in which a message and a name are printed on a resin or glass plate can be made by attaching a label tape made with a commercially available label tape maker to the plate. The vertical dimension of the resin or glass plate is made about 1 mm smaller than the inner diameter of the glass tube used in the pen shaft of the glass writing instrument, so that it can be inserted into the glass tube without resistance. Similarly, the horizontal dimension is made about 1 mm smaller than the horizontal dimension excluding the cork stopper or silicone stopper, so that the hollow part of the glass tube can be tightly sealed with the stopper. It is preferable to select a commercially available label tape with a vertical dimension slightly narrower than the vertical dimension of the resin or glass plate for ease of application. The horizontal dimension is preferably the same as the plate. The dimensions of the paper or film transmission medium on which handwriting can be written are preferably the same as the vertical and horizontal dimensions of the glass plate.

The following describes the embodiment with reference to the attached drawings. In FIG. 1, reference numeral 5 denotes a resin plate, and reference numeral 6 denotes a label tape for a communication display on which a message or name is printed using a commercially available label writer. The release paper of reference numeral 6 is peeled off and pasted onto reference numeral 5. Reference numeral 5 with the label tape with the message pasted is inserted inside the cylindrical glass shaft reference numeral 3 of the glass writing implement body, and the cork stopper reference numeral 4 is placed on top to confine the message display inside the glass tube shaft. If the label tape reference numeral 6 is an opaque color, it is possible to paste the label tape reference numeral 6 on both sides of reference numeral 5.

In Figure 2, reference number 5 is a resin plate, and reference number 7 is a paper medium on which writing can be done by hand. The message, name, etc. to be communicated is written by hand on reference number 7. Reference numbers 5 and 7 are not glued together, but are overlapped and inserted inside the cylindrical glass barrel of the glass writing implement body. Reference numbers 5 and 7 can be joined either above or below, as long as reference number 5 is transparent. The message transmission display is sealed inside the glass barrel by covering it with a silicone plug reference number 8.

Glass pens, glass writing implements invented by a Japanese person in 1902, have been highly praised worldwide in recent years for their decorativeness and practicality, and are manufactured and sold in many countries. Many glass pens, including imported ones, are displayed and sold in stationery stores, but they are all of a fixed design devised by the manufacturer. The glass writing implement of this invention allows users to design their own message or name, and complete it by adding original decorations. By adding a message, name, company name, etc., it can be used for multiple purposes as a gift or wedding favor.
