合成皮革素材の上生地（１）と下生地（３）がカラー層（１ｂ）を含むので、レーザー加工により外表面層（１ａ）を除去する事により、当該外表面層（１ａ）に隣接して設けられた、すなわち、外表面層（１ａ）の直下に積層されたカラー層（１ｂ）が表面に現れ、文字や図形等をコースターの生地表面にデザインする事ができる（［図２］を参照）。図２の例では、上生地（１）の外表面層（１ａ）の中央部分が星形に除去され、当該部分に下層のカラー層（１ｂ）が露出している状態となっている。また、前記上生地（１）と前記下生地（３）は、図１のように縁が縫製されており剥がれにくい仕様となっている。外表面層（１ａ）は、例えばポリ塩化ビニール或いはポリウレタン樹脂等の合成皮革で構成されている。また、カラー層（１ｂ）は、外表面層（１ａ）とは異なる色彩が施された素材であり、例えば、ウッドパウダーやカラーペーストから構成されている。
