扉は家具、制御盤、冷蔵庫、自動車、建築物等様々な物に古来より使用されているが、従来、一般的な一枚扉は左右どちらか一方が丁番側として回転中心となり、反対側のみが開閉する構造である。
特開平9-303942号に於いて、冷蔵庫の両開き扉構造が提案されている。
しかし、構造が複雑で冷蔵庫以外の様々な寸法の特注品、小ロット生産に低コストで対応するのは困難である。
又、これは扉内側に機構を設置する構造となっている。
実用新案登録第3242008号に於いて交差リンク式両開き扉機構も提案されている。これは扉内側に蝶番を設置する構造となっている。Doors have been used for various things such as furniture, control panels, refrigerators, automobiles, and buildings since ancient times. It is a structure that only opens and closes.

一般的な蝶番は扉外側に設置する方法と、扉内側に設置する方法、それに扉側面に設置する方法がある。蝶番の歴史は古く、それぞれ技術内容を今更論ずる必要もあえてないが、説明の為簡潔な長所と短所を記述する。
一番多く利用されているのは扉の外側に設置する蝶番である。これの長所は扉門口との寸法的な自由度が高く、又、扉開放時に側面に対する干渉も少なく取付けもしやすい。従って圧倒的に利用されている。一方短所としては蝶番が見えるので外観に劣る。
一方扉の内側に蝶番を設置する構造の長所はその外観の美しさにある。
しかし回転中心による制限があり、扉門口との寸法に制限が多く、取付け作業は少し難しい。
上記理由により現実に利用されるのは圧倒的に扉の外側に蝶番を設置する構造となっている。
しかし残念ながら現在まで交差リンク式両開き蝶番による左右開き一枚扉については、その全てが扉内側に蝶番を設置する構造となっており、今までその利用に大きな制限があった。General hinges are installed on the outside of the door, on the inside of the door, and on the side of the door. 蝶番の回転中心をラフに設定しても扉として開閉が成立する。
蝶番の後付け作業ができるので作業性が良い。
上記のメリットにより既存の扉に対する改造としても成立する。

[図2]に於いて、交差リンク式左右開き蝶番内側aは門口上gの外側に設置されている。
蝶番外側bは扉eの外側に設置されている。
また、蝶番内側aと蝶番外側bはリンクcで連結されている。
[図3]に於いて、交差リンク式左右開き蝶番は蝶番内側aと蝶番外側bがリンクcによって連結されている。
また、蝶番外側bはその折り返しにより、蝶番内側aと面一に設定されている。これにより扉の外側に取付け可能な構造となっている。
