ナイロンタオルは強くこする事による皮膚の色素沈着や、油分不足による皮膚乾燥や皮膚掻痒症を招きやすく健康に良いとは言えない。スポンジは背中に手が届きにくく、洗い残しが生じやすい。ボディーブラシは背中を洗う際には便利だが、胸や腹を洗う際には、柄の部分がかえってじゃまになり使いづらさを感じる。

日本手拭い1本を縦半分に裁断し1枚のみを使用する。裁断した手拭い（1）を縦に長い筒状になるように縫う。手のひら大の大きさで３〜４ｃｍ厚さのスポンジ（２）を筒状の日本手拭いの中央に入れ込み、スポンジを日本手拭い内に固定するためにスポンジの両側部分に当たる手拭いを閉じ合わせる（３）。
