2. Description of the Related Art With the spread of prepaid magnetic cards, there is an increasing demand for printing characters, numerals, etc. corresponding to magnetic recording contents to make the magnetic recording contents visible. For example, when a prepaid card is used a plurality of times, it is convenient if the user can visually check the contents and amount of use of each time and the remaining amount of the card. In order to cope with such a demand, a magnetic card provided with a heat-sensitive recording layer capable of recording by using a heat-sensitive recording means has been developed (see, for example, JP-A-2-62287). This conventional magnetic card has a structure in which a contrast-imparting layer, a heat-sensitive layer, a thin metal layer, and a protective layer are sequentially provided on one surface of a plastic base material. This is performed by bringing a thermal head of the recording apparatus into contact. The heat provided by the thermal head is transferred to the thin metal layer via the protective layer and the second heat-sensitive layer to melt the thin metal layer and make a hole in this portion. Since the contrast-imparting layer is located below the thin metal layer, the contrast-imparting layer is seen through at the hole portion, and the contrast between the hole-free portion and the character corresponding to the hole, Numbers can be seen.

The conventional magnetic recording medium as described above is convenient in that information such as the usage status can be recorded in a visible form, but temporary information or rewriting is not possible. When recording necessary information, it is necessary to take measures such as painting out the recorded information and recording new information in another area. However, the area that can be used for recording is limited, so that the number of rewrites cannot be increased too much.

A reversible thermosensitive recording layer for performing such reversible recording is formed by mixing a low molecular organic substance such as a saturated or unsaturated fatty acid or a derivative thereof with a matrix made of a polymer such as a vinyl polymer or polyester. It can be formed by applying the mixture obtained in an appropriate thickness. This reversible thermosensitive recording layer changes its light transmittance in a range from a transparent state to an almost opaque cloudy state according to the temperature when heat is applied from the outside, and changes its state after cooling. Has the property of retaining.

FIG. 1 shows the relationship between the heating temperature and the light transmittance of a typical reversible thermosensitive recording layer. The reversible thermosensitive recording layer is T1
If heated to a temperature in the range of 〜T2 and then cooled to T0, this layer has its highest transparency. Next, after this layer is heated to a temperature higher than T3, T0
When cooled to a cloudy state with the lowest transparency. When heated to a temperature between T0 and T1 or between T2 and T3 and then cooled to T0, it has a transparency that changes according to the heating temperature. This change in transparency is completely reversible, and a desired transparency can be obtained every time heating and cooling are repeated.

On the other hand, when irreversible information is recorded, a thermal head of a thermal recording device is brought into contact with the surface of the protective layer, and holes are partially formed in the thin metal layer. Since the contrast-imparting layer is located below the thin metal layer, the contrast-imparting layer will be seen through in the hole portion,
Characters, numerals, etc. corresponding to the holes can be visually observed by contrast with the portion without the holes. Heating temperature T4 in this case
Is significantly higher than the maximum temperature T3 applied to change the transparency of the reversible thermosensitive recording layer.
