紙に対するトナー画像の定着を行い、定着画像の透過率
を測定した結果をローラ定着方式のミノルタカメラCF
−70実機による定着結果と比較したところ、以下のよ
うな結果が得られた。全透過率は、ローラ定着とベルト
定着はほぼ同じであった。透過率は、各色においていず
れもベルト定着の方がローラ定着の値の2〜3倍であっ
た。濁度は、各色においてベルト定着はローラ定着の1
/2程度であった。つまり、排紙時のベルト及びトナー
表面温度がローラ定着の場合より低くて、トナーの凝集
力が強いために、定着ベルトにトナーが引張られること
がなく、平滑なトナー画像面が得られるものである。

加熱ローラ間に高ヤング率で耐熱性の金属や樹脂で構成
されたベルト主体の表面に離型層を有する無端状の定着
ベルトを張設し、定着ベルトを介して下方から定着ロー
ラを押圧する加圧ローラを設けて定着ベルトと加圧ロー
ラ間にニップ部を構成し、加熱ローラとニップ部間にお
ける定着ベルトの下方の近接位置において記録媒体支持
体を設けて定着ベルトとの間に略直線状の加熱通路を形
成し、定着ベルトの1cm2 当りの熱容量を0.002
〜0.025cal/℃として成るものであるから、加
熱通路における予熱効果によりニップ部の定着温度を低
くすることに加えて、熱容量の小さい定着ベルトのニッ
プ部における自己冷却作用によりトナーの温度を過度に
高めることなく定着ベルトとの離型性を良くし、オイル
レス又は微量オイル塗布によってオフセットのない定着
画像を得ることができる。
