The Ra of the surface layer of the electrophotographic photosensitive member is 0.010 μm or more and 0.045 μm or less , and the Sm of the surface layer of the electrophotographic photosensitive member has a shape within the range of 0.005 mm or more and 0.060 mm or less. preferable. Here, Ra is the arithmetic mean roughness measured by sweeping in the circumferential direction, and Sm is the average interval measured by sweeping in the circumferential direction. Further, Ra of the surface layer of the electrophotographic photosensitive member may have a shape within the range of 0.010 μm or more and 0.030 μm or less, and Sm of the surface layer of the electrophotographic photosensitive member may have a shape within the range of 0.005 mm or more and 0.060 mm or less. More preferred. When the surface layer has a roughness within the above range, it is possible to reduce the contact area between the cleaning blade and the surface of the electrophotographic photosensitive member while sufficiently ensuring the cleaning characteristics. Therefore, a trace amount of the desorbed portion of the organosilicon polymer can be continuously adhered, and a higher effect can be obtained from the viewpoint of reducing torque. If the roughness of the surface layer of the electrophotographic photosensitive member satisfies the above range, a high effect can be obtained, but it is more preferable that the peripheral surface of the electrophotographic photosensitive member has a groove shape in the generatrix direction. As an example of the means for roughening the surface layer, polishing using a polishing sheet can be mentioned. The polishing sheet is a sheet-shaped polishing member provided with a layer in which polishing abrasive grains are dispersed in a binder resin on a sheet base material. By pressing the polishing sheet against the surface of the surface layer and feeding the sheet, the surface layer can be roughened so as to have a groove shape. The detailed roughening method will be described later.
