ここで、従来公知であるが、キャップ5の各部の構成等について説明する。図2に示すように、キャップ5は、上方側に位置して内周面にねじ部が形成された筒状の本体部5Aと、図示しない複数のブリッジによって本体部5Aと連結された環状のバンド部5Bとを備えており、本体部5Aとバンド部5Bとの境界部がブリッジ部5Cとなっている。複数のブリッジによって本体部5Aとバンド部5Bが連結されている状態では、本体部5Aの下端5Aaとバンド部5Bの上端5Baがブリッジを介して相互に対向しており、ブリッジ部5Cは横一直線状となっている(図2(a)、(b))。
他方、容器3の口部3Aの外周には図示しないねじ部が形成されており、前工程のキャッピング工程でキャッパによって容器3の口部3Aのねじ部にキャップ5の本体部5Aのねじ部が螺合されている。なお、このように容器3の口部3Aにキャップ5が装着された状態において、消費者がキャップ5の本体部5Aを開栓方向に回転させると、ブリッジ部5Cの内方側の複数のブリッジが切断されるので、本体部5Aをバンド部5Bと分離させて容器3の口部3Aから取り外すことができるが、バンド部5Bは容器3の口部3Aに残留するようになっている。なお、図2に示されるキャップ5の形状は一例であって、開栓方向に回転させると、ブリッジが切断されて本体部5Aとバンド部5Bが分離できるものであれば、この形状に限定されるものではない。
容器3における口部の隣接下方側には環状のフランジ部3Cが形成されている。ボトムロケータ11とトップロケータ12により容器3が上下から挟み込まれて支持されている状態では、容器3の底部3B及びフランジ部3Cの下面は水平に維持されるようになっている。
ところで、前述したように、本実施例は、トップロケータ12によって容器3の上端となるキャップ5の天面5Dと隣接部分を上方から支持するようにしているので、そのキャップ5の天面5Dをカメラ4によって側面から撮影することはできない(図2の想像線参照)。
そこで、本実施例においては、カメラ4で2回撮影したキャップ5を装着した容器3の画像における本体部5Aの下端部5Aaの高さ位置を検出し、その高さ位置を基にしてキャップ5の装着状態の良否を判定するようにしている。
具体的には、高さ検出部7Aは、カメラ4が最初に撮影したキャップ5を装着した容器3の画像における本体部5Aの下端部5Aaの左右の端部を抽出して、その高さ位置(Y座標)HH1、HH2を検出し、その高さ位置(Y座標)HH1、HH2を判定部7Bへ伝達する。ここでは、容器3のフランジ部3Cの下面が水平となるので、容器3のフランジ部3Cの高さ位置(Y座標)を基準として、そこからの高さH1、H2を算出する。なお、高さ位置の基準としてはフランジ部3C以外であっても良く、例えば載置台16からの高さを基準としても良い。そして、判定部7Bは、その左右の端部の高さH1とH2とを比較して、その差が所定の判定幅以下であるかを判定する。なお、本実施例のように、ボトムロケータ11とトップロケータ12とにより容器3が挟み込まれて支持されている状態では、容器3は水平に支持されるので、必ずしも基準となるフランジ部3Cの高さ位置を検出する必要はない。すなわち、本体部5Aの下端部5Aaの左右の端部の高さ位置(Y座標)HH1、HH2の差である、|HH1―HH2|が所定の判定幅以下であるか否かを判定すれば良い。
次に、高さ検出部7Aは、カメラ4が2回目に撮影したキャップ5を装着した容器3の画像についても同様に、本体部5Aの下端部5Aaの左右の端部を抽出して、その高さ位置(Y座標)HH1、HH2を検出し、その高さH1、H2を判定部7Bへ伝達する。そして、判定部7Bは、それら左右の高さH1とH2とを比較する。
このように、判定部7Bは、カメラ4が撮影した最初と2回目のキャップ5を装着した容器3の画像から少なくとも2回、高さ検出部7Aが検出した本体部5Aの下端部5Aaの左右の端部の高さ位置からその高さを比較して、キャップ5が容器3の口部3Aに適切に装着されているか否かを判定する。そして、少なくとも1回その値が異常であれば、キャップ5の容器3の口部3Aへの装着は異常であると判定し、いずれもその値が正常であれば、キャップ5の容器3の口部3Aへの装着は正常であると判定する。
例えば、図2(a)に示すように、キャップ5の装着が正常に行われている場合には、本体部5Aの下端部5Aa、バンド部5Bの上端5Ba及びブリッジ部5Cが同じ高さとなる。つまり、下端部5Aaの左右の端部の高さH1、H2が同じとなるので、判定部7Bはキャップ5が正常に装着されていると判定する。
次に、図2(b)に示すように、ベレーキャップが生じている場合には、上記左右の端部の高さH1、H2のいずれか他方よりも高くなるので、この場合には、判定部7Bはベレーキャップが生じている(装着異常)と判定する。
さらに、図2(c)に示すように、ベレーキャップとともに、ブリッジ部5Cの内方のブリッジのいくつかが切断されて、本体部5Aの下端部5Aaの一部とバンド部5Bの上端部5Baの一部が分離されて、ブリッジ切れが生じた場合において、例えバンド部5Bの下端の高さ位置が同じでも、上記左右の端部の高さH1、H2が異なるので、この場合も判定部7Bはベレーキャップが生じている(装着異常)と判定するようになっている。また、ベレーキャップの検査を行うと同時に、本体部5Aの下端部5Aaの高さ位置とバンド部5Bの上端部5Baの高さ位置とを比較して、ブリッジ切れの検査を行うこともできる。

また、検査領域Aにおいて搬送される容器3を回転(自転)させることによって、1台のカメラ4で複数の方向からキャップ5を撮影することができるので、撮影手段としてのカメラの数を減少させることができるので、キャップ検査装置1の製造コストを低減することができる。
