Description

The present invention relates to a connector assembly method and a connector for a connector having a plurality of terminals in a connector housing.

A conventional connector that accommodates terminal fittings (terminals) inside a connector housing has a terminal housing chamber formed in the connector housing, a terminal fitting is inserted from an insertion port at the rear thereof, and a resin lance ( The terminal fitting is held in the normal insertion position by the locking arm). However, in such a conventional connector, it cannot be visually confirmed whether or not the terminal fitting is properly inserted.
Therefore, the terminal fitting of the terminal of the electric wire inserted into the connector housing as a connector with a detachable holder for holding the terminal fitting so that the insertion state can be visually confirmed in the insertion step of the terminal fitting. Is assembled to the holder, and then assembled by attaching the holder to the connector housing by pulling the electric wire (see, for example, Patent Document 1).

Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 10-32280

By the way, in the connector having the structure of Patent Document 1, before attaching the holder to the connector housing, the terminal fittings of the ends of the wires passed through the connector housing must be assembled and held one by one on the holder, Improvement of workability is desired. In particular, when the number of terminal fittings is large due to the large number of poles, a great deal of labor is required for assembling the terminal fitting to the holder.

The present invention has been made in view of the above-described circumstances, and an object thereof is to provide a connector assembling method and a connector excellent in assembling workability.

In order to achieve the above-described object, the connector assembly method according to the present invention is characterized by the following (1) and (2).
(1) An electric wire terminal inclusion step of enclosing a plurality of electric wire terminals of an electric cable to which a plurality of terminals are respectively connected in a cylindrical cover member, and causing the plurality of terminals to protrude from a front opening of the cover member;
A partition wall of a terminal holding member that defines a plurality of terminal accommodating portions is inserted between the plurality of adjacent terminals from the front of the terminals, and the terminals are locked by locking arms provided in the terminal accommodating portions. A terminal assembly step of assembling the plurality of terminals to the terminal holding member;
A terminal holding member insertion step of inserting the terminal holding member into the cover member and restricting movement of the locking arm in the unlocking direction;
A cover member mounting step of mounting the cover member into which the terminal holding member is inserted in a connector housing;
A connector assembling method comprising:
(2) The connector assembly method according to (1), wherein the cover member is formed of a divided body that is divided into two along the axial direction.

According to the connector assembling method of the above configuration (1), the terminal holding member is provided in a state in which the plurality of electric wire terminals to which the terminals are connected are enclosed in the cylindrical cover member and the plurality of terminals protrude from the front opening. By inserting the partition wall between the plurality of adjacent terminals from the front of the terminal and locking the terminal by the locking arm of each terminal receiving portion, it is possible to attach a plurality of terminals to each terminal receiving portion at once. Therefore, the terminal assembly workability is improved.
In addition, when the terminal holding member is inserted into the cover member in a state in which the terminal is fitted in the terminal accommodating portion, the locking arm comes into contact with the cover member to prevent the insertion of the terminal holding member. It is possible to detect midway fitting.
Moreover, after the terminal holding member is inserted into the cover member, the cover member restricts the movement of the locking arm in the unlocking direction (double locking), so that the terminal can be reliably held in the terminal accommodating portion. .
In the connector assembling method of the above configuration (2), it is not necessary to insert a plurality of electric wire terminals of the electric cable into the cover member by forming the cover member in a divided body, and the plural electric wire terminals are included in the cover member. Work becomes easier.

According to the connector having the configuration of (3) above, the terminal holding member is partitioned in a state in which the plurality of electric wire terminals to which the terminals are connected are enclosed in the cylindrical cover member and the plurality of terminals protrude from the front opening. Since the wall can be inserted between a plurality of adjacent terminals from the front, and the terminals can be locked by the locking arms of the terminal accommodating portions, a plurality of terminals can be collectively attached to the terminal accommodating portions. Therefore, the workability of assembling the terminals is improved, and a connector with good assemblability can be provided.
In addition, when the terminal holding member is inserted into the cover member in a state in which the terminal is fitted in the terminal accommodating portion, the locking arm comes into contact with the cover member to prevent the insertion of the terminal holding member.
Hereinafter, an example of an embodiment according to the present invention will be described with reference to the drawings.
1 and 2 are an exploded perspective view and a longitudinal sectional view of a connector 11 according to an embodiment of the present invention. FIG. 3 is a perspective view of the terminal holding member 15 and the cover member 17 constituting the connector 11.

The connector 11 according to the present embodiment can be suitably used as a shield connector connected to the end portion of the electric cable 27 made of a shield cable.

As shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, the connector 11 of this embodiment includes a female terminal (terminal) 13, a terminal holding member 15, a cover member 17, a shield shell 19, a connector housing 21, a packing 23, and the like. The rear holder 25 is provided. This connector 11 is joined to the mating connector 101. In the present specification, the front side (the right side in FIG. 2) of the connector housing 21 will be described as the front, and the rear side (the left side in FIG. 2) of the electric cable 27 will be described as the rear.

The electric cable 27 is provided with a plurality (four in this embodiment) of electric wires 31 whose inner conductors are covered with a coating. The plurality of electric wires 31 are further covered with a shield foil 32, a braid 33, and a sheath portion 35 to constitute an electric cable 27 (see FIG. 4).

As shown in FIG. 3, the female terminal 13 is formed by sheet metal processing using a conductive sheet metal material, and has a cylindrical electrical contact portion 41 and a conductor crimping portion 43 provided behind the electrical contact portion 41. have.
The electrical contact portion 41 is formed in a cylindrical shape having a pair of contact pieces 47. Each of the contact pieces 47 has a tapered portion 45 that narrows toward the tip, and a circular insertion hole 49 is formed between the contact pieces 47. A pin 109 formed in a pin shape of the male terminal 107 housed in the mating connector 101 is inserted into the insertion hole 49 (see FIG. 2). Accordingly, the female terminal 13 is electrically connected to the male terminal 107 by sandwiching the pin 109 of the male terminal 107 inserted into the insertion hole 49 with the contact piece 47.

In order to connect the female terminal 13 to the electric cable 27, first, as shown in FIG. 4A, the sheath part 35 is peeled off at the end of the electric cable 27 to expose the braid 33. Next, as shown in FIG. 4B, the braid 33 is folded and put on the sheath portion 35. And as shown in FIG.4 (c), the shield foil 32 is removed and the electric wire 31 is exposed. Then, as shown in FIG.4 (d), the coating | coated of the edge part of each electric wire 31 is peeled, and an internal conductor is exposed. And the conductor crimping | compression-bonding part 43 of the female terminal 13 is crimped to the edge part of the electric wire 31, as shown to (d) of FIG. Thus, the female terminal 13 is electrically connected to each electric wire 31 of the electric cable 27. The female terminal 13 is simultaneously crimped to the two electric wires 31. At this time, the two electric wires 31 are held by the jig G in a state where the electric wires 31 are widened at intervals necessary for crimping.

As shown in FIG. 3, the terminal holding member 15 is formed of a synthetic resin material. The terminal holding member 15 includes an end face plate portion 51, a plurality of partition walls 53, and a plurality (four in this embodiment) of terminal accommodating portions 55. The end face plate portion 51 having a rectangular outer shape in front view is provided at the front end of the terminal holding member 15, and the partition wall 53 is formed integrally with the rear portion of the end face plate portion 51. The terminal accommodating portion 55 is a space portion that accommodates the female terminal 13 on the rear side of the end face plate portion 51, and is defined by being partitioned by the partition wall 53. The female terminal 13 is inserted into the terminal accommodating portion 55 from the rear side. Accordingly, the female terminal 13 is accommodated in the terminal accommodating portion 55 of the terminal holding member 15. The partition wall 53 is formed in a cross shape in cross section, and defines the terminal accommodating portion 55 in four along the insertion direction of the female terminal 13. Protrusions 57 projecting sideways are formed on both upper and lower sides of the partition wall 53. A connection hole 59 that communicates with the terminal accommodating portion 55 is formed in the end face plate portion 51. Further, the end face plate portion 51 has positioning convex portions 61 on both left and right side portions thereof.

Further, the terminal holding member 15 has a locking arm 63 and a holding piece 65 in each terminal accommodating portion 55. The locking arm 63 and the holding piece 65 are formed integrally with the end face plate portion 51 and extend rearward along the terminal accommodating portion 55. The locking arm 63 is formed with a locking claw 67 projecting inward at its tip.

In this terminal holding member 15, the partition wall 53 is inserted between a plurality of adjacent female terminals 13, and the locking claw 67 of the locking arm 63 of each terminal accommodating portion 55 engages the female terminal 13. In a stopped state, the plurality of female terminals 13 are accommodated in the terminal accommodating portion 55 and assembled.

The cover member 17 is formed in a rectangular tube shape from a synthetic resin material. A terminal holding member 15 is inserted into the cover member 17 from the front side. By inserting the terminal holding member 15 into the cover member 17, the locking arm 63 of the terminal holding member 15 is in a state where movement of the female terminal 13 in the locking release direction with respect to the electrical contact portion 41 is restricted. . Further, the upper and lower inner walls of the cover member 17 are respectively formed with locking grooves 71 for locking the projections 57 formed on the partition wall 53. When the terminal holding member 15 is inserted into the locking member 71 in the locking groove 71, the protruding portion 57 of the partition wall 53 is locked, so that the cover member 17 is attached to the terminal holding member 15. Maintained. The cover member 17 is formed with positioning recesses 73 on both side portions at the front end thereof.

The shield shell 19 is formed by sheet metal processing using a conductive sheet metal material. The shield shell 19 has a box-shaped shield portion 75 that covers the cover member 17 in which the terminal holding member 15 is inserted. Behind the shield part 75, a barrel part 77 that is crimped and fixed to the end part of the sheath part 35 of the electric cable 27 is continuously provided. The cover member 17 containing the female terminal 13 is inserted into the shield part 75 of the shield shell 19, and the braid 33 folded back at the end of the sheath part 35 of the electric cable 27 is crimped and fixed to the barrel part 77. As a result, the cover member 17 accommodating the female terminal 13 is covered with the shield portion 75 of the shield shell 19, and the braid 33 is electrically connected to the shield shell 19. Further, the shield portion 75 of the shield shell 19 is formed with cover member locking portions 79 projecting inward on both side surfaces on the rear end side. The cover member locking portion 79 locks the rear end of the cover member 17 inserted into the shield portion 75 and restricts the rearward movement of the cover member 17.

The connector housing 21 is formed in a cylindrical shape from an insulating synthetic resin material. An accommodation space 81 is formed inside the connector housing 21. The cover member 17 covered with the shield shell 19 is inserted and held in the accommodation space 81. The connector housing 21 has a fitting portion 83 at the tip thereof, and this fitting portion 83 is fitted to a mating connector 101 described later. Further, the connector housing 21 is provided with claw portions 85 projecting from both side portions at the rear end thereof. Further, the connector housing 21 is provided with a lock piece 87 extending forward in the upper part thereof. A lock hole 89 is formed near the tip of the lock piece 87.

The packing 23 is made of a waterproof material such as rubber, for example. A seal hole 91 through which the electric cable 27 is passed is formed at the center of the packing 23. By passing the electric cable 27 through the seal hole 91, the inner peripheral surface of the seal hole 91 becomes the electric cable 27. It adheres closely to the outer peripheral surface of. The packing 23 is fitted into the accommodation space 81 from the rear end of the connector housing 21. Thereby, the space between the electric cable 27 and the housing space 81 of the connector housing 21 at the rear end of the connector housing 21 is sealed in a liquid-tight manner.

The rear holder 25 is made of a synthetic resin material. The rear holder 25 is formed with an insertion hole 95 through which the electric cable 27 passes. In addition, locking portions 97 are formed on both sides of the rear holder 25. The rear holder 25 is mounted from the rear end of the connector housing 21 in which the packing 23 is fitted. The rear holder 25 is fixed to the rear end of the connector housing 21 with the locking portions 97 on both sides locked by the claw portions 85 of the connector housing 21. As a result, the terminal holding member 15, the cover member 17, the shield shell 19, and the packing 23 fitted in the accommodation space 81 of the connector housing 21 are prevented from coming out of the accommodation space 81.

The mating connector 101 is formed of a synthetic resin material, and includes a fixing portion 103 that is fixed to an apparatus or the like, and a cylindrical housing portion 105 that extends outward from the fixing portion 103. The housing portion 105 accommodates the same number (four in this example) of male terminals 107 as the female terminals 13 of the connector 11. The housing part 105 has a lock claw 111 and a pair of guide ribs 113 at the upper part thereof. The guide ribs 113 are disposed on both sides of the lock claw 111 and extend in the front-rear direction of the housing portion 105.

The housing portion 105 is fitted with a fitting portion 83 formed on the connector housing 21 of the connector 11. As a result, the male terminal 107 of the mating connector 101 is joined to the female terminal 13 of the connector 11 and is electrically connected to each other. Further, when the fitting portion 83 of the connector 11 is fitted to the housing portion 105, the lock claw 111 of the housing portion 105 enters the lock hole 89 of the lock piece 87. Thereby, the connector 11 is maintained in the state fitted to the mating connector 101. When the fitting portion 83 of the connector 11 is fitted to the housing portion 105, both side portions of the lock piece 87 are guided by the guide rib 113 of the housing portion 105. Thereby, fitting of the fitting part 83 to the housing part 105 can be performed smoothly.

Next, the assembly procedure of the connector 11 will be described.
5 and 6 are diagrams for explaining the connector assembling method according to the present embodiment, and FIGS. 5A to 6B are perspective views of the connector 11 during assembly.

(Wire terminal inclusion process)
First, the terminals (wire terminals) of the plurality of electric wires 31 of the electric cable 27 to which the plurality of female terminals 13 are respectively connected are inserted into the cylindrical cover member 17 so as to be included, and the plurality of female terminals 13 are connected to the cover member 17. It protrudes from the front opening (see FIG. 3).

(Terminal assembly process)
Next, as shown in FIG. 5A, the terminal holding member 15 is brought closer from the front of the female terminal 13, and the partition wall 53 of the terminal holding member 15 is inserted between the four adjacent female terminals 13 from the front. Furthermore, by bringing the terminal holding member 15 close to the female terminal 13, the female terminal 13 is inserted into each terminal accommodating portion 55 of the terminal holding member 15 and provided in the terminal accommodating portion 55 as shown in FIG. The locking claw 67 of the locking arm 63 locks the rear end of the electrical contact portion 41 of the female terminal 13, and the four female terminals 13 are assembled to the terminal holding member 15. At this time, even if the female terminal 13 is slightly misaligned, the tapered portion 45 at the tip is guided and guided to each terminal accommodating portion 55 of the terminal holding member 15. At this time, the locking arm 63 is temporarily pushed outward by the locking claw 67 coming into contact with the tapered portion 45 of the female terminal 13 and elastically deformed, and then reaches the rear of the electrical contact portion 41. , It will be restored to its original position. Further, when the female terminal 13 is inserted into the terminal accommodating portion 55, the lateral movement is restricted by the holding piece 65 and guided to the terminal accommodating portion 55.

(Terminal holding member insertion process)
Next, as shown in FIG. 6A, the terminal holding member 15 in which the female terminal 13 is accommodated in the terminal accommodating portion 55 is inserted into the cover member 17. Then, the protrusion 57 of the terminal holding member 15 is locked to the step of the locking groove 71 of the cover member 17. Thereby, the cover member 17 is maintained in a state assembled to the terminal holding member 15. If it does in this way, the movement to the outer side which is the latch release direction which cancels | releases the latching claw 67 with respect to the female terminal 13 by the cover member 17 will be controlled. Therefore, the female terminal 13 is maintained in a state of being reliably locked by the locking arm 63 whose movement in the locking release direction is restricted. At this time, the electric wire 31 connected to the female terminal 13 is pushed inward by the cover member 17. Therefore, even if the electric wire 31 is expanded by the jig G and bulges outward when the female terminal 13 is crimped and connected, the terminal 31 is inserted into the cover member 17 to bulge outward. Is corrected. Further, even when the electric wire 31 is pushed inward by the cover member 17, the inward movement of the electric wire 31 is restricted by the inner partition wall 53. As a result, the electric wire 31 connected to the female terminal 13 is extended linearly by the cover member 17 and the partition wall 53, so that the tip of the female terminal 13 is connected to the connection hole 59 of the end face plate portion 51. Positioned with high accuracy. Further, when the terminal holding member 15 is inserted into the cover member 17, the positioning convex portion 61 of the end face plate portion 51 of the terminal holding member 15 is fitted into the positioning concave portion 73 of the cover member 17. Thereby, the terminal holding member 15 is inserted in a state where it is positioned with respect to the cover member 17, and erroneous insertion of the terminal holding member 15 into the cover member 17 is prevented.

(Shield shell installation process)
As shown in FIG. 6B, the cover member 17 into which the terminal holding member 15 is inserted is fitted into the shield portion 75 of the shield shell 19, and the sheath portion 35 of the electric wire cable 27 in which the braid 33 is folded is barreled. The part 77 is crimped and fixed by crimping. In this way, the cover member 17 is covered with the shield part 75 of the shield shell 19, and the braid 33 folded back at the end of the sheath part 35 is electrically connected to the shield shell 19. Further, in a state where the shield shell 19 is attached to the cover member 17, the rear end portion of the cover member 17 is locked to cover member locking portions 79 formed on both sides of the shield portion 75.

(Cover member installation process)
Thereafter, the cover member 17 to which the shield shell 19 is attached is inserted into the housing space 81 of the connector housing 21 from the rear end side. Then, the packing 23 is fitted into the accommodation space 81 of the connector housing 21, and the rear holder 25 is fixed to the rear end of the connector housing 21.

As described above, according to the connector assembling method according to the present embodiment and the connector 11 assembled thereby, the ends of the four electric wires 31 to which the female terminals 13 are connected are placed in the cylindrical cover member 17. The partition wall 53 of the terminal holding member 15 is inserted from the front between the adjacent four female terminals 13 with the four female terminals 13 projecting from the front opening, and the terminal accommodating portions 55 are locked. By locking the female terminal 13 with the arm 63, the four female terminals 13 can be attached to each terminal accommodating portion 55 in a lump. Therefore, the workability of assembling the female terminal 13 is improved.

In addition, when the terminal holding member 15 is inserted into the cover member 17 in a state in which the female terminal 13 is fitted in the terminal accommodating portion 55, the locking arm 63 that is elastically deformed outwardly contacts the cover member 17. Since the insertion of the terminal holding member 15 is prevented in contact, it is possible to detect the midway fitting of the female terminal 13.

In addition, after the terminal holding member 15 is inserted into the cover member 17, the cover member 17 restricts (double locking) the movement of the locking arm 63 in the locking release direction, so that the female terminal 13 is accommodated in the terminal. The portion 55 can be securely held. Thereby, for example, even if a tensile force acts on the electric cable 27, the locked state of the female terminal 13 by the locking arm 63 of the terminal holding member 15 can be reliably maintained.

(Modification)
Next, a connector assembly method according to a modification will be described.
FIG. 7 is a view for explaining a connector assembling method according to a modified example, and FIGS. 7A and 7B are perspective views of the connector in the middle of assembly.

In the connector assembling method according to this modified example, as shown in FIG. 7A, instead of the cover member 17, a cover member 123 composed of a divided body 121 divided in two along the axial direction is used. The divided body 121 is connected so as to be rotatable by a thin-walled hinge 125 on one side. Moreover, the division body 121 has the engaging parts 127a and 127b which can be mutually engaged in each other side part. Furthermore, a locking hole 129 that can lock the protrusion 57 of the terminal holding member 15 is formed in the divided body 121.

In this modified example, in the terminal holding member insertion step, the divided body 121 of the cover member 123 is rotated by the hinge 125 so as to cover the end of the electric cable 27, and the engaging portions 127a and 127b of the divided body 121 are moved to each other. Engage with each other. If it does in this way, as shown in (b) of Drawing 7, it will be in the state where cylindrical cover member 123 was attached to electric wire cable 27.
From this state, the terminal holding member 15 accommodating the female terminal 13 in the terminal accommodating portion 55 is inserted into the cover member 123. Then, the protrusion 57 of the terminal holding member 15 is locked in the locking hole 129 of the cover member 123.

As described above, in the connector assembling method according to the modification, the cover member 123 is configured by the divided body 121, so that it is not necessary to insert the terminals of the plurality of electric wires 31 of the electric cable 27 into the cover member 123. The operation | work which encloses the terminal of the some electric wire 31 in 123 becomes easy.

In the above-described modification, the cover member 123 including the two divided bodies 121 that are rotatably connected by the hinge 125 is used. However, as the cover member, a separate member that is detachable by the engagement mechanism is used. It may be composed of two divided bodies 121.

In addition, this invention is not limited to embodiment mentioned above, A deformation | transformation, improvement, etc. are possible suitably. In addition, the material, shape, dimensions, number, arrangement location, and the like of each component in the above-described embodiment are arbitrary and are not limited as long as the present invention can be achieved.

For example, although the case where the female terminal 13 to which the male terminal 107 of the mating connector 101 is connected is illustrated in the above embodiment, the connector 11 may be provided with a male terminal.
The cover members 17 and 123 are not limited to a rectangular tube shape, and may be a cylindrical shape. In this case, the end plate of the terminal holding member inserted into the cover members 17 and 123 has a circular outer shape when viewed from the front.
Moreover, in the said embodiment, although the connector 11 was illustrated as a shield connector provided with the shield shell 19 electrically connected with the braid 33 of the electric wire cable 27 consisting of a shield cable, the present invention does not include the shield shell 19. It can also be applied to connectors.
