揉乾胴2には、過熱蒸気供給管26と、過熱蒸気吹込み口28を設け、過熱蒸気発生器21で発生させた過熱蒸気を揉乾胴2内へ送り込む。この過熱蒸気は150〜400度であり、過熱蒸気供給管26は製茶粗揉機1の巾とほぼ同一とし、直径3〜15mmの開孔(過熱蒸気吹込み口28)を50〜300mmピッチで設けている。ただし、過熱蒸気の供給方法は、この限りではない。製茶粗揉機1の場合、約150%D.B.の茶葉を投入し、茶葉が60%D.B.くらいになったら、茶葉を取り出す。この時は、揉乾胴2の底面の一部を開放し、取出コンベヤ11条へ茶葉を取出し、バケットコンベヤ12で次の製茶装置(図示しない)へ搬送される。
