Abstract
【解決手段】本明細書では、埋め込み型医療装置を充電するための回路、及び医療用インプラントとの間を行き来するデータをテレメトリするための回路の両方を単一ハウジング内に収容した、埋め込み型医療装置システム用の外部装置の改善された実施形態について説明する。1つの実施形態では、外部装置が直交ラジエータを含み、この直交ラジエータでは、両方のラジエータがデータ転送に使用され、ラジエータの少なくとも一方が電力伝達に使用される。充電回路とデータテレメトリ回路を単一の外部装置内に完全に一体化することは、患者及び臨床医の両方にとって便利である。

Description
本国際(PCT)出願は、2009年2月10日に出願された米国特許出願第12/368,385号に基づくとともに該特許出願に対する優先権を主張するものであり、該特許出願はその全体が引用により本明細書に組み入れられる。
通常、容器30は、IPGが機能するのに必要な回路及び電源又はバッテリを保持するが、バッテリを使用せずに、外部RFエネルギーを通じてIPGに給電することもできる。
IPG100は、1又はそれ以上の電極リード(2本のこのようなリード線102及び104を図示)を介して電極106に結合され、電極106が電極アレイ110を形成するようにする。電極106は可撓体108上にあり、この可撓体108は、個々の電極に結合された個々の信号線112及び114も収容する。例示の実施形態では、E1〜E8のラベルを付けた8つの電極がリード102上に存在し、E9〜E16のラベルを付けた8つの電極がリード104上に存在するが、リード及び電極の数は用途固有のものであり、従ってこれとは異なってもよい。
外部充電器50からの電力の伝達は、ラジエータ17’を含むことができるラジエータによって可能になり、これについては以下でさらに説明する。本明細書では、基本的な説明を目的として、外部充電器50が外部コントローラ12と同様の構成を有するように示しているが、当業者であれば理解するように、実際にはこれらはそれぞれの機能に基づいて異なる。
しかしながら、本発明はこのように限定されるものではない。それどころか、本発明は、あらゆる種類の埋め込み型医療装置システムとともに使用することができる。例えば、埋め込み式センサ、埋め込み式ポンプ、ペースメーカ、除細動器、蝸牛刺激装置、網膜刺激装置、協調四肢運動を生み出すように構成された刺激装置、脳皮質及び深部刺激装置を使用するシステムの一部として、或いは様々な状態のいずれかを治療するように構成された他のあらゆる神経刺激装置において本発明を使用することができる。

前記ハウジング内の少なくとも1つのラジエータと、を備え、
前記少なくとも1つのラジエータは、埋め込み型医療装置へのデータをテレメトリするとともに、前記埋め込み型医療装置に電力を供給するのに使用される、ことを特徴とする装置。
(実施形態2)前記少なくとも1つのラジエータは、前記埋め込み型医療装置からのテレメトリされたデータを受信するのに更に使用される、ことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の装置。
(実施形態3)前記データが第1の周波数でテレメトリされ、前記電力が第2の周波数で提供される、ことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の装置。
(実施形態4)前記第2の周波数が前記第1の周波数よりも低い、ことを特徴とする請求項3に記載の装置。
(実施形態5)前記第1の周波数は変調されているが、前記第2の周波数は変調されていない、ことを特徴とする請求項3に記載の装置。
(実施形態6)前記供給される電力が変調されていない、ことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の装置。
(実施形態7)2以上のラジエータが前記データをテレメトリするのに使用され、1つのラジエータのみが前記電力を供給するのに使用される、ことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の装置。
(実施形態8)前記ラジエータがコイルを含む、ことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の装置。

(実施形態12)構成部品を含む回路基板を前記ハウジング内にさらに備え、前記第1及び第2のコイルが前記プリント基板に結合され、前記構成部品が前記第2のコイル内に存在しない、ことを特徴とする請求項11に記載の装置。
(実施形態13)前記第1及び第2のラジエータが、前記埋め込み型医療装置へのデータをテレメトリするのに使用され、前記第2のラジエータのみが、前記埋め込み型医療装置に電力を供給するのに使用される、ことを特徴とする請求項9に記載の装置。
(実施形態14)前記第1及び第2のラジエータが位相を異にして駆動される、ことを特徴とする請求項9に記載の装置。
(実施形態15)前記第1及び第2のラジエータが、前記埋め込み型医療装置へのデータをテレメトリするとともに、前記埋め込み型医療装置に電力を供給するのに使用される、ことを特徴とする請求項9に記載の装置。
(実施形態16)埋め込み型医療装置とともに使用するための外部装置であって、

前記ハウジング内の少なくとも1つのラジエータを駆動するための、前記ハウジング内の駆動回路と、を備え、
前記駆動回路が、前記埋め込み型医療装置へのデータをテレメトリするための第1のモード、及び前記埋め込み型医療装置に電力を供給するための第2のモードで動作可能である、ことを特徴とする装置。
(実施形態17)前記データが第1の周波数でテレメトリされ、前記電力が第2の周波数で供給される、ことを特徴とする請求項16に記載の装置。
(実施形態18)前記第2の周波数が前記第1の周波数よりも低い、ことを特徴とする請求項17に記載の装置。

Claims (10)
- 埋め込み型医療装置とともに使用するための外部装置であって、
ハウジングと、
前記ハウジング内の複数のラジエータと、を備え、
前記複数のラジエータのうちの第1のラジエータが、前記複数のラジエータのうちの第2のラジエータに直交し、
前記複数のラジエータは、前記埋め込み型医療装置へのデータをテレメトリするとともに、前記埋め込み型医療装置に電力を供給するのに使用されることを特徴とする装置。 - 前記複数のラジエータがコイルを含むことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の装置。
- 構成部品を含む回路基板を前記ハウジング内にさらに備え、前記コイルが前記プリント基板に結合され、前記コイルの少なくとも1つが内部に構成部品を有していないことを特徴とする請求項2に記載の装置。
- 前記埋め込み型医療装置へのデータをテレメトリするとともに、前記埋め込み型医療装置に電力を供給するために、前記第1のラジエータが、前記第2のラジエータと位相を異にして駆動されることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の装置。
- 埋め込み型医療装置とともに使用するための外部装置であって、
ハウジングと、
前記ハウジング内の第1及び第2のラジエータと、を備え、
前記第1のラジエータ及び前記第2のラジエータは、前記埋め込み型医療装置へのデータをテレメトリするのに使用され、前記第2のラジエータのみが、前記埋め込み型医療装置に電力を供給するのに使用されることを特徴とする装置。 - 前記第1及び第2のラジエータが直交することを特徴とする請求項5に記載の装置。
- 前記第1及び第2のラジエータがコイルを含むことを特徴とする請求項5に記載の装置。
- 構成部品を含む回路基板を前記ハウジング内にさらに備え、第1及び第2のコイルが前記プリント基板に結合され、前記構成部品が前記第2のコイル内に存在しない、
ことを特徴とする請求項7に記載の装置。 - 前記第1及び第2のラジエータが位相を異にして駆動されることを特徴とする請求項5に記載の装置。
- 駆動回路をさらに備え、前記駆動回路は、前記埋め込み型医療装置へデータをテレメトリするときに、前記第1のラジエータと位相をずらして前記第2のラジエータを駆動することを特徴とする請求項5に記載の装置。
