Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to an exhaust emission control device for an internal combustion engine. Specifically, the present invention relates to an exhaust gas purification apparatus for an internal combustion engine that efficiently purifies NOx in exhaust gas discharged from the internal combustion engine.
In recent years, in order to reduce the burden on the environment, the emission amount of harmful substances such as NMOG (Non Methane Organic Gas) and NOx discharged from an internal combustion engine of a vehicle has been strictly regulated. For this reason, an exhaust gas purification apparatus for purifying NMOG, NOx, etc. in the exhaust gas is usually installed in the exhaust system of the internal combustion engine.
In the exhaust purification apparatus, an exhaust purification catalyst carrying a noble metal is usually used. However, since the noble metal is expensive, a reduction in the amount of use is required from the viewpoint of cost reduction. Among noble metals, Rh, which exhibits high purification activity with respect to NOx, is particularly expensive, and thus a reduction in the amount of use is particularly required.
However, in a conventional exhaust purification catalyst using Al 2 O 3 or Ce-containing oxide as the main component of the catalyst carrier, Rh is dissolved in Al 2 O 3 over time or Rh is converted to Ce-containing oxide. There was a risk of being covered. In this case, since the NOx purification performance of the exhaust purification catalyst is lowered, it is necessary to increase the amount of Rh used in advance to compensate for the reduced amount.
Therefore, an exhaust purification catalyst in which Rh is supported on a composite oxide containing lanthanoid and Zr has been proposed (see, for example,
By the way, from the viewpoint of reducing the emission amount of harmful substances and improving the fuel efficiency, a fuel cut for temporarily stopping the fuel injection is performed in a predetermined operation state such as when the vehicle is decelerated or when traveling on a downhill. Then, the conventional exhaust purification catalyst is in an oxygen-excess state due to the OSC material, and there has been a problem that the NOx purification efficiency is greatly reduced during a predetermined time after returning from the fuel cut.
The present invention has been made in view of the above, and an object of the present invention is to provide an exhaust purification device for an internal combustion engine that can efficiently purify NOx even during a predetermined time after returning from a fuel cut.
In order to achieve the above object, the present invention is provided in an exhaust passage (for example, an exhaust pipe 4 described later) of an internal combustion engine (for example, an
In the present invention, an exhaust purification catalyst in which Rh is supported on a composite oxide containing a lanthanoid and Zr is used. Thereby, the solid solution of Rh in Al 2 O 3 and the covering of Rh with Ce-containing oxide, which has been a problem in the past, can be avoided, and Rh in the metal state can be maintained. Here, Rh in the metal state has a characteristic that allows a steam reforming reaction (hereinafter referred to as “SR reaction”) to proceed efficiently, and hydrogen produced by this SR reaction acts as a reducing agent for NOx.
Therefore, in the present invention, the combustion of the internal combustion engine is performed so that the SR reaction proceeds on the exhaust purification catalyst to generate hydrogen for a predetermined time after returning from the fuel cut in which the NOx purification efficiency has been greatly reduced. The excess air ratio of the air-fuel mixture in the room (hereinafter referred to as “air-fuel mixture”) was controlled. That is, the excess air ratio of the air-fuel mixture was controlled so that hydrocarbons (hereinafter referred to as “HC”) serving as reaction species for the SR reaction were supplied to the exhaust purification catalyst.
As a result, during the predetermined time after returning from the fuel cut, where the NOx purification efficiency has been greatly reduced, the SR reaction can proceed on the exhaust purification catalyst to generate hydrogen, and NOx can be efficiently produced. It can be purified.
In this case, it is preferable that the excess air ratio control means controls the excess air ratio of the air-fuel mixture in the combustion chamber within a range of 0.8 to 0.9 for a predetermined time after returning from the fuel cut.
In the present invention, the excess air ratio of the air-fuel mixture is controlled within the range of 0.8 to 0.9 for a predetermined time after returning from the fuel cut. Thereby, the effect of the said invention is show | played more notably.
According to the present invention, it is possible to provide an exhaust purification device for an internal combustion engine that can efficiently purify NOx even during a predetermined time after returning from a fuel cut.
Hereinafter, an embodiment of the present invention will be described in detail with reference to the drawings.

The exhaust pipe 4 is provided with a first three-way catalyst (hereinafter referred to as “first TWC”) 41 and a second three-way catalyst (hereinafter referred to as “second TWC”) 42 in order from the upstream side. The configurations of the first TWC 41 and the second TWC 42 may be the same as long as they have a catalyst composition described later, or may be different from each other.
The first TWC 41 and the second TWC 42 oxidize and purify HC and CO contained in the exhaust discharged from the
As the support, a conventionally known cordierite honeycomb support or the like is used. For example, a honeycomb support having 400 cells, a wall thickness of 3.5 mil, and a capacity of 1.0 L is used.
In the first catalyst layer, Al 2 O 3 and CeO 2 are used as a catalyst carrier, and Pd is supported on the catalyst carrier as a catalyst metal. CeO 2 functions as an OSC material in addition to functioning as a catalyst support.
In addition, an alkaline earth metal phosphate, specifically, a phosphoric acid Ba layer is formed on the surface of the catalyst carrier, thereby suppressing phosphorus poisoning of Al 2 O 3 and CeO 2 .
In the second catalyst layer, a composite oxide containing a lanthanoid and Zr is used as a catalyst carrier, and Rh is supported on the catalyst carrier as a catalyst metal. The catalytic metal Rh has NOx reduction performance superior to Pt and Pd. For example, Pr or the like is used as the lanthanoid.
In addition, 1st TWC41 and 2nd TWC42 may contain other components other than the above in the range which does not inhibit the effect mentioned later. For example, other catalyst metals, oxides, and the like may be contained, and other additives and the like may be contained.
The

Next, the characteristics of the
FIG. 2 (A) is a diagram schematically showing the configuration of a conventional three-way catalyst, and FIG. 2 (B) is a diagram schematically showing the configuration of the
As described above, the conventional three-way catalyst uses Al 2 O 3 or a Ce-containing oxide of an OSC material on which Rh is supported. In this case, as shown in FIG. 2 (A), Rh in the metal state supported by Al 2 O 3 (refers to Rh (0) in FIG. 2 (A)). Means that, over time, it combines with oxygen in the exhaust gas due to its electron-withdrawing property and is oxidized, and also dissolves in Al 2 O 3 of the carrier.
In addition, Rh in a metallic state supported on the Ce-containing oxide of the OSC material is coated with the Ce-containing oxide over time.
As described above, the conventional three-way catalyst has a characteristic that the NOx purification performance is lowered as a result of the reduction of Rh in the metal state that becomes the active point of NOx purification over time.
On the other hand, as described above, in the
First, as a result of the catalyst carrier acting as an OSC material and storing a large amount of oxygen in the exhaust, oxidation of Rh in the metallic state is suppressed. In addition, solid solution of Rh in Al 2 O 3 and coating of Rh with Ce-containing oxide as in the conventional three-way catalyst are avoided. Furthermore, the interposition of lanthanoids between Zr atoms ensures a longer distance between Zr atoms, and as a result, aggregation of Zr under high temperature conditions is suppressed.
As described above, in the

With the hardware configuration as described above, the
The excess air ratio control unit controls the excess air ratio of the air-fuel mixture for a predetermined time after returning from the fuel cut of the
Specifically, the excess air ratio control unit, for example, increases the fuel injection amount by controlling the valve opening time of the injector, and also reduces the intake air amount by controlling the opening of the throttle valve to reduce the intake air amount. The excess air ratio is controlled to an excess air ratio at which the air-fuel ratio of the air-fuel mixture becomes rich.
Here, the “excess air ratio” is a value obtained by dividing the air-fuel ratio of the air-fuel mixture by the stoichiometric air-fuel ratio. “Rich” means a state in which the air-fuel ratio is small (fuel concentration is high) with respect to stoichiometry, which is a stoichiometric ratio in a complete combustion reaction.
Preferably, the excess air ratio control unit controls the excess air ratio of the air-fuel mixture within a range of 0.8 to 0.9. If the excess air ratio of the air-fuel mixture is within this range, the SR reaction is sufficiently promoted in at least one of the
In the fuel cut of the

The excess air ratio control of the air-fuel mixture by the excess air ratio control unit will be described with reference to FIG.
FIG. 4 is a diagram showing the relationship between the air-fuel ratio of the air-fuel mixture of the exhaust

Next, fuel supply is started, and the air / fuel ratio of the air-fuel mixture (target A / F in FIG. 4) is determined by the excess air ratio control unit for a predetermined time (shaded area in FIG. 4) immediately after the start of fuel supply. Is controlled to be rich (that is, the excess air ratio is less than 1). Then, Feed_NOx hardly rises, but Feed_HC rises rapidly. That is, generation of NOx is suppressed, and a large amount of HC is supplied to the
Next, a verification result of the air excess ratio control of the air-fuel mixture performed by the air excess ratio control unit will be described.
First, an exhaust gas purification device having the same configuration as the exhaust

FIG. 5 is a diagram showing the behavior of the NOx concentration in the exhaust when the air-fuel ratio of the air-fuel mixture immediately after returning from the fuel cut is controlled to be close to normal stoichiometric (that is, the excess air ratio is 1). FIG. 6 is a diagram showing the behavior of the hydrogen concentration in the exhaust at this time.
In FIG. 5, Feed_NOx is the NOx concentration in the exhaust supplied to the
As shown in FIG. 5, it can be seen that immediately after returning from the fuel cut, _NOx after CAT is increased, and NOx cannot be sufficiently purified. Further, as shown in FIG. 6, CAT after _H 2 is not change is observed before and after the fuel cut, the hydrogen it can be seen that not generated by even SR reaction in both the 1TWC41 and the 2TWC42.
From these results, since the
Therefore, the exhaust
FIG. 7 shows the NOx concentration in the exhaust when the excess air ratio of the air-fuel mixture is controlled to 0.9 (that is, the air-fuel ratio is 10% rich with respect to stoichiometry) for a predetermined time immediately after returning from the fuel cut. It is a figure which shows a behavior. FIG. 8 is a diagram showing the behavior of the hydrogen concentration in the exhaust at this time.
Feed_NOx and post-CAT _NOx in Figure 7 represents a similar to FIG. 5, Feed_H 2 and post-CAT _H 2 kick in Figure 8 represent the same as FIG.
As shown in FIG. 7, immediately after returning from the fuel cut, _NOx after CAT hardly increases and it can be seen that NOx is efficiently purified. Further, as shown in FIG. 8, CAT after _H 2 after returning from the fuel cut, it is found that a value larger than Feed_H 2 increase gradually. This means that the SR reaction proceeds in at least one of the
From these results, by controlling the excess air ratio of the air-fuel mixture so that the SR reaction proceeds and hydrogen is generated in at least one of the

FIG. 9 is a diagram showing the relationship between the excess air ratio of the air-fuel mixture and the hydrogen concentration in the exhaust gas after passing through the
As shown in FIG. 9, when the excess air ratio of the air-fuel mixture is 0.8 to 0.9 (that is, the air-fuel ratio is 10 to 20% rich with respect to the stoichiometric ratio), the exhaust gas after passing through the
As shown in FIG. 10, when the excess air ratio of the air-fuel mixture is 0.8 to 0.9, the NOx concentration in the exhaust gas after passing through the
From these results, it was verified that NOx can be purified more efficiently by controlling the excess air ratio of the air-fuel mixture within the range of 0.8 to 0.9 for a predetermined time immediately after returning from the fuel cut. .
According to the exhaust
In the present embodiment, the
