Description
The present invention relates to content packages for electronic distribution.
[0001] Existing systems provide a generic container for storing files. For example, file containers such as zips, tars, and cabs provide a means of grouping multiple files into a single file. Video exchange formats exist for grouping media files or streams into a single file.
However, after obtaining a file in a format that conforms to an existing system, the computing device must re-authorize or reformat the resulting file for storage or playback. Among other deficiencies, existing systems lack a mechanism for providing a file container that can be easily modified and rendered (rendered) by the user.
[0002] Embodiments of the present disclosure provide a content package for storing, downloading and playing audio and video via a digital distribution system.
Referring back to FIG. 1, an exemplary block diagram shows a
[0013] The
[0014] In other embodiments, the
[0015] Each presentation may be associated with a particular configuration of media players executing on
The
[0017] The
In an embodiment as shown in FIG. 1,
[0019] In some embodiments, the
[0020] In some embodiments, other data is shown in the
In general, the
[0022] In some embodiments, the
[0023] Referring now to FIG. 2, an exemplary flowchart illustrates the operation of the
[0024] At 202, the
[0025] At 208, the
[0026] In other embodiments, one or more presentations are identified to the
[0027] In some embodiments, the
[0028] At 210, the media player plays, renders, presents, or otherwise provides the accessed media player file to the
[0029] In some embodiments, the
[0030] The
[0031] Referring now to FIG. 3, an exemplary flowchart illustrates the loading and analysis of
[0032] A package parser or loader (eg, associated with a media player) accesses a package file at 340 and a presentation selection at 350 (eg, a set of files including at least one of the media files 120). ). Presentation choices include a globally unique identifier, a multipurpose Internet Mail Extension (MIME) type, a file extension, or a format identifier string (eg, name and version number) that is recognized as compatible by the media player. It happens by matching. The package parser further performs a setup operation and starts playback on the media player on the
[0033] In the example of FIG. 3, the package file is a presentation file (eg, an extensible mark) that describes, at 360, resource marshaling, player initialization, and application loading and starting. Up language documentation). In some embodiments, the presentation file includes metadata such as a list of resources, branching resource alternatives, and a start command string. The list of resources includes package files and network (eg, Internet) resources for initiating presentation. Presented and listed resources may also obtain and reference other resources once started. Branching resources are resource choices for the
[0034] The launch string identifies the initial resource (eg, playlist or executable application program) that is used to initiate playback of the selected presentation by the media player. In some embodiments, there is one file and / or additional parameters in the start string to construct the start command. In other embodiments, the starting string is a single file name.
[0035] At 380, an application program, such as a media player, opens the presentation file and performs operations such as device or presentation specific settings. For example, media players can have video resolution, language, bit rate, network connection status and speed, local storage capabilities, graphics rendering capabilities, number of decoders, supported codecs, supported digital rights, etc. Resources may be selected based on The media player performs resource placement at 370 by aligning resource files according to device specific settings. Another
[0036] Resource file marshalling is included in packages stored in their locations as well as copying distributed file systems, servers and network resources stored on the Internet (eg, at 390). Includes copying files. The generalized Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) syntax (syntax), in addition to the domain name service and web resolution mechanism, includes actual local and network file locations (eg, relative or absolute). Path) or runtime resolution for files currently stored inside a local or remote package. For example, relative references may be converted to absolute references at runtime.
[0037] During resource alignment, resource availability is identified, actual storage locations are resolved, network connections are established, package files are copied to runtime locations, and raw The file is copied to the runtime location and the file is extracted from the package file as appropriate (e.g., once executed, before starting, other resources can be interactively resolved and obtained by the presentation itself) To extract resources for use).
