Claims (12)

  1. 患者の組織に隣接して配置されるように構成される複数の電極(26、56)であって、電極(26、56)が第1の電極(26(a)、56(a))と第2の電極(26(b)、56(b))を含み、第1の電極(26(a)、56(a))が第1の組織接触表面積を有し且つ第2の電極(26(b)、56(b))が第1の組織接触表面積より大きい第2の組織接触表面積を有する、前記電極;および
    複数の電極(26、56)に結合される出力刺激回路(60)であって、前記出力刺激回路(60)は、第1の電極(26(a)、56(a))と第2の電極の一方に陽極電流を流入させるように構成された第1の定電流源(68)及び、第1の電極(26(a)、56(a))と第2の電極(26(b)、56(b))のもう一方から陰極電流を流出させて、患者に治療を施すように構成される第2の定電流源(68)を備える、前記出力刺激回路
    を備えている、神経刺激システム(10)。
  2. 第1の電極と第2の電極の一方が第1の電極(26(a)、56(a))であり、第1の電極と第2の電極のもう一方が第2の電極(26(b)、56(b))である、請求項1に記載の神経刺激システム(10)。
  3. 第2の組織接触表面積が、第1の組織接触表面積の少なくとも2倍である、請求項1に記載の神経刺激システム(10)。
  4. 出力刺激回路(60)が、第2の組織接触面上の電流密度より大きい第1の組織接触面上の電流密度を生成するように構成される、請求項1に記載の神経刺激システム(10)。
  5. 陽極電流と陰極電流が、複数の電気パルスを含む、請求項1に記載の神経刺激システム(10)。
  6. 電極(26、56)を有するリード(12、48)を更に含む、請求項1に記載の神経刺激システム(10)。
  7. リード(12、48)が脊髄刺激リードである、請求項6に記載の神経刺激システム(10)。
  8. リードがインラインリード(48)であり、電極(56)がインラインリードの軸に沿って単一列で配置されている、請求項6に記載の神経刺激システム(10)。
  9. リードがパドルリード(12)であり、電極(26)がパドルリード(12)の軸に対して直角なラインに沿って配置される3つの電極を備えている、請求項6に記載の神経刺激システム(10)。
  10. 複数の電極(26、56)が第3の電極(26(a)、56(a))を含み、第3の電極(26(a)、56(a))が第2の組織接触表面積より小さい第3の組織接触表面積を有し; および
    出力刺激回路(60)は、第3の電極(26(a)、56(a))に陽極電流を流入させて、患者に治療を施すように構成された第3の定電流源(68)を含む、請求項2に記載の神経刺激システム(10)。
  11. 第3の組織接触表面積が第1の組織接触表面積と等しい、請求項10に記載の神経刺激システム(10)。
  12. 第2の電極(26(b)、56(b))が、第1および第3の電極(26(a)、56(a))の間に設置される、請求項10に記載の神経刺激システム(10)。
