Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a printing apparatus that prints an image by ejecting ink.
2. Description of the Related Art Conventionally, an ink jet printing apparatus that prints an image by ejecting ink includes a removable ink cartridge that contains ink. When the ink cartridge is replaced, it is necessary to stop the printing operation as efficiently as possible to suppress wasteful output of the printed matter. For example, in Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. H10-260260, whether or not an ink cartridge is attached / detached is detected, and when an ink cartridge is removed, printing of an output image is stopped or printing of a page being printed is stopped. Means. As a result, the printing apparatus is kept in a state where output can be avoided as much as possible without stopping the printing apparatus, and wasteful output of printed matter and loss of output data are prevented.
However, in a printing apparatus as described in
SUMMARY An advantage of some aspects of the invention is to solve at least a part of the problems described above, and the invention can be implemented as the following forms or application examples.
Application Example 1 A printing apparatus includes a print data acquisition unit that acquires print data, a print unit that performs printing based on the acquired print data, and an ink cartridge replacement dedicated cover that opens and closes when the ink cartridge is replaced. An open / close detection unit that detects an open / closed state, and a print continuation possible region that is set based on a printing condition and indicates a region that can be continuously printed when the ink cartridge replacement dedicated cover is open is acquired. When the printing unit is printing outside the print continuation possible region when the area acquisition unit and the open / close detection unit detect the open state of the ink cartridge replacement cover, the printing unit performs a printing operation. And a control unit that executes control for immediately filling the print head of the printing unit with a cleaning liquid.
According to the printing apparatus described above, the area acquisition unit acquires a print continuation possible area that can be continuously printed when the ink cartridge replacement dedicated cover is open. The printing apparatus.
According to the above-described printing apparatus, when a predetermined time elapses after the open state of the ink cartridge replacement dedicated cover is detected, the printing operation is stopped in the print stoppable area. As a result, when printing is being performed within the print continuation possible area, the printing operation can be stopped at an appropriate position after all the printing within the print continuation possible area is completed.

Next, the print continuation possible area set in the
The print continuation possible area T2 is an area for determining whether or not the current printing position can continue the printing operation as it is when the
The print stoppable area T3 is an area that is not to be printed on the sheet S, and is an area where the printing operation can be stopped when the

FIG. 4 is a flowchart showing operations of the
First, the
Next, the
Next, the
Next, the
In step S80, the
In step S110, the
In the above flowchart, the printing operation ends when all the image data to be printed is printed. When the printing operation is stopped, the printing operation is resumed when a printing resumption instruction is received from the
In the above-described embodiment, when the
Further, when printing is performed in the print continuable area, the printing operation is continued as it is, and when a predetermined time has elapsed after the
(Modification 1)
In the above-described embodiment, as shown in the print continuation possible region T2 in FIG. 3, the region start position in the main scanning direction is the end position in the main scanning direction of the printing region T1. However, the present invention is not limited to this, and a position other than the end of the print area T1 may be set as the area start position. FIG. 5 is a diagram illustrating an example in which a position other than the edge is set as the start position of the print continuable area. In the figure, the start position of the print continuation possible region T2 is set to a position C1 that is not an end. Thus, according to the amount of ink filled in the flow path of the
