本発明は上述した点に鑑みてなされたもので、水面が変動する撮像又は撮影状況においても、水上被写体及び水中被写体の両画像を同時に含む画像を取得するのに適したカメラ及び画像合成方法を提供することを目的とする。

上記撮像部が上記水上被写体と上記水中被写体とを同時に撮影するための撮影モードとしての半水中撮影モードの撮影状態に設定されたことを自動的に検出する半水中撮影モード判定部と、
上記半水中撮影モード判定部による半水中撮影モードの撮影状態の判定後における複数の撮影タイミングにより上記撮像部により撮影された複数の画像から水面が変動する水面部により発生する水面部画像を検出し、該水面部画像の少なくとも一部に上記水上被写体の水上被写体画像又は上記水中被写体の水中被写体画像を合成して上記水面部画像の領域を低減した合成画像を生成する画像合成部と、
を具備することを特徴とする。
