Description

The present invention relates to an exhaust gas purification apparatus for an internal combustion engine configured to purify nitrogen oxides in exhaust gas.

2. Description of the Related Art In general, an exhaust purification device disposed in an exhaust system of an internal combustion engine such as a diesel engine is known that includes a NOx catalyst for purifying nitrogen oxide (NOx) contained in exhaust gas. Various types of NOx catalysts are known. Among them, a selective reduction type NOx catalyst (SCR: Selective Catalytic Reduction) (hereinafter referred to as SCR) that continuously reduces and removes NOx by adding a reducing agent. Catalysts) are known. Urea is known as a reducing agent, and usually urea water (urea aqueous solution) is injected and supplied into exhaust gas upstream of the catalyst. Ammonia is generated from the urea water by receiving heat from the exhaust gas and the catalyst, and NOx is reduced on the SCR catalyst by this ammonia.

For example, Patent Document 1 discloses a reducing agent composition supply device that can stably and continuously supply a reducing agent composition of high-concentration urea while reducing the harmful effects caused by excessive water. . Specifically, this apparatus includes a dissolution tank in which particulate (solid) urea is stored, a water tank capable of supplying water to the dissolution tank, and a microwave irradiation apparatus that irradiates microwaves in the dissolution tank. And a mixer for adjusting the concentration of the reducing agent composition produced in the dissolution tank as described below, and an injection nozzle that injects the reducing agent composition from the mixer into the exhaust pipe upstream of the SCR catalyst. Have. By supplying water from the water tank to the dissolution tank and performing microwave irradiation, a liquid reducing agent composition in which urea is dissolved in water is generated in the dissolution tank. In the produced reducing agent composition, the concentration of urea as a main component is set to a high concentration of more than 32.5% by mass to 76.9% or less. And this reducing agent product is made dilutable with the water from a water tank with a mixer.

As is generally known, it is difficult to appropriately generate ammonia from urea water when the exhaust gas temperature and the catalyst temperature are low, regardless of the urea concentration of urea water. As a result of various investigations of this reason, the present inventors have found that when urea water is injected and supplied from the addition valve, the urea water scatters as fine droplets in the exhaust passage, so that the reaction around the urea is sufficient. It has been found that one of the reasons is that a large amount of water cannot be present. In addition, when the exhaust gas temperature and the catalyst temperature are sufficiently high, generation of ammonia from the urea water is promoted by heat received from them, so that it is considered that ammonia generation appropriately occurs even when the amount of water is insufficient. It is done.

Therefore, the present invention has been made in view of such a point, and an object of the present invention is to appropriately prepare an ammonia generation environment so that ammonia is appropriately generated even when the exhaust gas temperature and the catalyst temperature are low. There is.

To achieve the above object, an exhaust gas purification apparatus for an internal combustion engine according to the present invention comprises a selective reduction type NOx catalyst provided in an exhaust passage, and urea water supply means for supplying urea water from the upstream side of the selective reduction type NOx catalyst. Temperature determining means for determining whether or not the temperature of the selective reduction type NOx catalyst is a temperature in a predetermined low temperature range; and the temperature determination means sets the temperature of the selective reduction type NOx catalyst to the predetermined low temperature range. Water supply means for supplying water so as to promote ammonia generation from the urea water supplied by the urea water supply means when it is determined that the temperature is equal to the above temperature.

According to such a configuration, when the temperature of the selective reduction type NOx catalyst is in a predetermined low temperature range, the water supply means supplies water in order to promote the generation of ammonia from the urea water supplied by the urea water supply means. Supply. Therefore, even if the exhaust gas temperature and the catalyst temperature are low and the ammonia generation environment is insufficient, it is possible to appropriately prepare the ammonia generation environment and appropriately generate ammonia from the urea water.

For example, the urea water supply means supplies urea water toward the exhaust passage on the upstream side of the selective reduction type NOx catalyst or the selective reduction type NOx catalyst, and the water supply means is provided on the upstream side of the selective reduction type NOx catalyst. Water may be supplied to the exhaust passage. By doing so, it is possible to prepare an ammonia generation environment by combining urea water and water in the exhaust passage.

Alternatively, the urea water supply means supplies urea water toward the exhaust passage on the upstream side of the selective reduction type NOx catalyst or the selective reduction type NOx catalyst, and the water supply means is directed to the selective reduction type NOx catalyst. Water may be supplied. By doing so, it is possible to prepare an ammonia generation environment in the vicinity of the selective reduction type NOx catalyst or in combination with urea water or urea and water.

Further alternatively, the urea water supply means includes a urea water addition valve facing the exhaust passage, and a mixing chamber arranged upstream of the urea water addition valve and through which the urea water flows, and the water supply means Water may be supplied to the chamber. By doing so, it is possible to appropriately adjust the urea concentration of urea water and appropriately adjust the ammonia generation environment.

DESCRIPTION OF EMBODIMENTS Hereinafter, preferred embodiments of the present invention will be described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings. First, the first embodiment will be described.

FIG. 1 is a schematic system diagram of an internal combustion engine 10 to which an exhaust gas purification apparatus 1 for an internal combustion engine according to a first embodiment of the present invention is applied. The internal combustion engine 10 is a compression ignition internal combustion engine for automobiles, that is, a diesel engine. In FIG. 1, a part of the exhaust system extending from the engine body 10 ′ is exaggerated (intake system and exhaust system). The internal mechanism of the engine is omitted). In the exhaust passage 12 defined by the exhaust pipe 11 of the internal combustion engine 10, an upstream catalytic converter 14 and a downstream catalytic converter 16 are provided in series in order from the upstream side. In the upstream catalytic converter 14, an oxidation catalyst 18 that oxidizes and purifies unburned components (particularly HC) in the exhaust gas, and particulate matter (PM) in the exhaust gas is collected and removed by combustion. A DPR (Diesel Particulate Reduction) catalyst 20 is disposed in order from the upstream side. In the downstream catalytic converter 16, an SCR catalyst 22 is disposed as a catalyst having NOx catalytic ability for reducing and purifying NOx in the exhaust gas.

Then, urea is selected as a reducing agent so that ammonia can be added to the SCR catalyst 22 between the SCR catalyst 22 and the DPR catalyst 20, that is, the exhaust passage 12m downstream of the DPR catalyst 20 and upstream of the SCR catalyst 22. A urea water addition valve 26 is provided for the purpose of addition. Urea is used in the form of urea water, and is injected and supplied to the exhaust passage 12 from the urea water addition valve 26 toward the SCR catalyst 22 on the downstream side. A urea water tank 32 for storing urea water is connected to the urea water addition valve 26 via a urea water supply passage 30 defined by a urea water supply pipe 28 in order to supply urea water thereto. . A pump 34 is provided to pump urea water from the urea water tank 32 toward the urea water addition valve 26. However, the urea concentration of urea water as a reducing agent is preferably 32.5% by weight in order to suppress freezing in a cold region or the like.

Here, the urea water supply device 36 includes the urea water addition valve 26, the urea water supply passage 30, the urea water tank 32, and the pump 34. However, here, the urea water added from the urea water addition valve 26 is substantially directly added to the SCR catalyst 22 via the exhaust passage 12, but in order to supply the added urea to the SCR catalyst 22 appropriately and uniformly. A dispersion plate that disperses the added urea and directs it in a wide range may be provided at or near the inlet of the downstream catalytic converter 16 having the SCR catalyst 22.

Here, the selective reduction type NOx catalyst, that is, the SCR catalyst 22 is composed of zeolite containing Si, O, and Al as main components and Fe ions. The SCR catalyst 22 reduces and purifies NOx when the catalyst temperature is in the activation temperature range (NOx purification temperature range) and urea is added from the urea water supply device 36. As described above, urea is supplied as urea water, and is hydrolyzed and thermally decomposed by the heat of the exhaust passage 12 (CO (NH 2 ) 2 → NH 3 + HOCN, HOCN + H 2 O → NH 3 + CO 2 ). As a result, ammonia is generated. That is, when urea (urea water) is added toward the SCR catalyst 22, ammonia is supplied onto the SCR catalyst 22. This ammonia reacts with NOx on the SCR catalyst 22, and NOx is reduced. In addition, as the SCR catalyst 22, a catalyst in which a vanadium catalyst (V 2 O 5 ) is supported on the surface of a substrate made of alumina can be used, and the present invention allows various SCR catalysts.

In addition, the DPR catalyst 20 which is a kind of diesel particulate filter (Diesel Particulate Filter; DPF) is a filter structure and has a noble metal on the surface thereof. That is, the DPR catalyst 20 is a continuous regeneration type catalyst that continuously oxidizes (combusts) particulate matter (PM) collected by a filter using the catalytic action of a noble metal.

Although the oxidation catalyst 18, the DPR catalyst 20, and the SCR catalyst 22 are arranged in order from the upstream side in the exhaust passage 12 of the internal combustion engine 10 of the first embodiment, the arrangement order is not limited to this. Further, the DPR catalyst 20 is not limited to be provided as a DPF, and other types of DPFs can be used. Specifically, the DPF is configured only as a filter structure, and when the continuous operation time of the internal combustion engine exceeds a predetermined time or when the differential pressure before and after the DPF exceeds a predetermined value, for example, the fuel injection timing is set. By delaying and causing afterburning, the collected particulate matter may be oxidized and burned to be regenerated. However, such regeneration of the DPF at a predetermined time can also be applied to the DPR catalyst 20. Note that at least one of the oxidation catalyst 18 and the DPR catalyst 20 may be omitted. Furthermore, an oxidation catalyst may be provided on the downstream side of the SCR catalyst 22 regardless of the presence or absence of the oxidation catalyst 18 in order to oxidize and purify the ammonia flowing out (leaked) from the SCR catalyst 22.

Further, a water supply device 40 that supplies water so as to prepare an ammonia generation environment is provided in order to promote ammonia generation from the urea water supplied by the urea water supply device 36. The water supply device 40 includes a water addition valve 42, a water tank 48 connected to the water addition valve 42 through a water supply passage 46 partitioned by the water supply pipe 44, and the water tank 48 toward the water addition valve 42. And a pump 50 for pumping water stored in the tank. Here, the water addition valve 42 is provided facing the exhaust passage 12m, and is provided at substantially the same position as the urea water addition valve 26 in the axial direction of the exhaust passage 12. Then, the water supplied from the water addition valve 42 to the exhaust passage 12m is supplied with the urea water injected from the urea water addition valve 26 or its urea on the exhaust passage 12m, in the vicinity of the SCR catalyst 22 or on the SCR catalyst 22. The directions of the nozzle holes of the water addition valve 42 and the urea water addition valve 26 are adjusted so as to be mixed.

Further, an electronic control unit (ECU) 60 is provided as a control means for controlling the entire internal combustion engine 10 including the urea water supply device 36 and the water supply device 40. The ECU 60 includes a CPU, a ROM, a RAM, an input / output port, a storage device, and the like. The ECU 60 controls a fuel injection valve (not shown) and the like so that desired internal combustion engine control is executed based on detection values obtained using various sensors. Further, the ECU 60 controls the addition valves 26 and 42 and the pumps 34 and 50 to control the urea water addition amount and the urea water addition timing, and the water addition amount and the water addition timing.

Sensors connected to the ECU 60 include a rotational speed sensor 62 for detecting the engine rotational speed of the internal combustion engine 10, a load sensor 64 for detecting the engine load, and a temperature sensor for detecting the exhaust gas temperature. An exhaust temperature sensor 66 and a NOx sensor 68 for detecting the NOx concentration in the exhaust gas are included. The load sensor 64 can be an air flow meter or an accelerator opening sensor. Here, the exhaust temperature sensor 66 is provided in the exhaust passage 12u on the upstream side of the oxidation catalyst 18, but may be provided in another location. Here, the NOx sensor 68 is provided in the exhaust passage 12m upstream of the SCR catalyst 22 and downstream of the DPR catalyst 20. Further, the water supply means is configured to include a part of the water supply device 40, in particular, the ECU 60 as its control means. However, the temperature detecting means may include a rotational speed sensor 62, a load sensor 64, and a part of the ECU 60, and a temperature sensor provided directly on the SCR catalyst 22 and a part of the ECU 60 may be included. It may be configured to include.

Here, first, urea water addition supply control will be described based on the flowchart of FIG. Execution / stopping of urea water addition in the urea water addition supply control is controlled according to the temperature of the SCR catalyst 22 (here, an estimated value). Specifically, urea water addition is executed when the SCR catalyst temperature is in the predetermined first temperature range, and urea water addition is stopped when the SCR catalyst temperature is not in that temperature range.

Here, the temperature of the SCR catalyst 22 is obtained by estimation. Specifically, the ECU 60 estimates the SCR catalyst temperature by searching data stored and stored in advance based on the exhaust temperature detected based on the output signal from the exhaust temperature sensor 66. Note that the estimation method is not limited to such an example. The temperature of the SCR catalyst 22 may be detected directly using a temperature sensor embedded in the SCR catalyst 22. Alternatively, the temperature of the SCR catalyst 22 may be estimated based on an engine operating state determined based on output signals from the rotation speed sensor 62 and the load sensor 64.

In step S201, it is determined whether or not the temperature of the SCR catalyst 22 is within a predetermined first temperature range. And if negative determination is carried out here, it will progress to step S203 and urea water addition will be stopped. On the other hand, when a positive determination is made in step S201, the process proceeds to step S205, and urea water addition is executed. Here, the predetermined first temperature range in step S201 is a temperature range in which only the lower limit temperature is determined (a temperature range equal to or higher than the lower limit temperature). This lower limit temperature is, for example, 200 ° C. and can be referred to as a minimum active temperature. The reason why the predetermined first temperature range is determined in this manner is that NOx cannot be efficiently reduced even if urea water is added before the SCR catalyst temperature reaches the minimum activation temperature. An upper limit temperature may be set in the predetermined first temperature range.

When an affirmative determination is made in step S201 that the temperature of the SCR catalyst 22 is within the predetermined first temperature range, that is, when urea water addition is performed, the urea water addition amount and addition timing are determined from the NOx sensor 68. The control is performed based on the NOx concentration in the exhaust gas detected based on the output signal (or the NOx amount related to the NOx concentration). Specifically, the amount of urea water added and the timing of addition are determined by searching data stored and stored in advance based on experiments with the NOx concentration, and based on these, the pump 34 and urea are added. The water addition valve 26 is controlled.

When a NOx sensor is provided in the exhaust passage 12d so that the NOx concentration in the exhaust passage 12d on the downstream side of the SCR catalyst 22 can be detected, the urea water addition valve 26 ensures that the post-catalyst NOx concentration is always zero. The urea water addition supply is controlled. In this case, the urea water addition supply amount may be set based only on the NOx concentration, or the basic urea injection amount based on the engine operation state (for example, the engine rotation speed and the engine load) is set as an output signal from the NOx sensor. Feedback correction may be performed based on the NOx concentration obtained based on the above. Since the SCR catalyst 22 can reduce NOx only when ammonia is present, urea water may be constantly added. Control may be performed so that urea is added only in a minimum amount necessary to reduce NOx discharged from the internal combustion engine. This is because if urea is added excessively, ammonia flows out downstream of the SCR catalyst 22 (so-called ammonia slip), which may cause a strange odor and the like.

Water is supplied from the water supply device 40 so as to promote ammonia generation from the urea water added and supplied in this manner. Based on the flowchart of FIG. 3, the water supply control will be described. Execution / stop of water addition in the water addition supply control is controlled according to the temperature (here, estimated value) of the SCR catalyst 22. Specifically, water addition is executed when the SCR catalyst temperature is in the predetermined second temperature range, and water addition is stopped when the SCR catalyst temperature is not in that temperature range. In addition, since the temperature of the SCR catalyst 22 is obtained in the same manner as described with respect to the urea water addition supply control, a duplicate description is omitted here.

In step S301, it is determined whether or not the temperature of the SCR catalyst 22 is in a predetermined second temperature range. And if negative determination is carried out here, it will progress to step S303 and water addition will be stopped. On the other hand, when a positive determination is made in step S301, the process proceeds to step S305, and water addition is performed. The predetermined second temperature range in step S301 is a temperature range defined by the lower limit temperature and the upper limit temperature, and is a temperature range that is greater than or equal to the lower limit temperature and less than or equal to the upper limit temperature. The lower limit temperature of the predetermined second temperature range is, for example, 200 ° C., and can be the same as the lower limit temperature of the predetermined first temperature range. The lower limit temperature in the predetermined first temperature range and the lower limit temperature in the predetermined second temperature range may be different. Further, the upper limit temperature in the predetermined second temperature range is an upper limit value of the temperature of the SCR catalyst 22 that can be presumed that generation of ammonia from urea water is not likely to occur sufficiently only by receiving heat from the exhaust gas or the SCR catalyst 22. Similarly to the lower limit temperature, it can be determined in advance by experiments. For example, the upper limit temperature of the predetermined second temperature range is 250 ° C.

The predetermined second temperature range is determined as a temperature range in which the hydrolysis reaction of urea water to ammonia is not sufficiently obtained. That is, since the temperature of the exhaust gas and the temperature of the SCR catalyst 22 are low, the predetermined second temperature region is a predetermined low temperature region in which the reaction from urea to ammonia hardly occurs with the heat alone. It should be noted that the amount and timing of addition of water to be added and supplied when the affirmative determination is made in step S301 that the temperature of the SCR catalyst 22 is in the predetermined second temperature range is determined and stored in advance through experiments. Data is retrieved by searching the temperature of the SCR catalyst 22. The amount of water added and the timing of addition are not limited to being variable, and may be constant. However, the amount of water added is preferably smaller because of the cooling effect on the SCR catalyst 22.

As described above, in addition to the urea water addition supply, the water addition supply is performed when the temperature of the SCR catalyst 22 is a predetermined low temperature range, so that the reaction environment of urea in the urea water, that is, the ammonia generation environment To promote ammonia production. Therefore, it becomes possible to appropriately purify NOx in the exhaust gas.

Next, a second embodiment according to the present invention will be described. However, the second embodiment is the same as the first embodiment except that the installation position of the water addition valve is different from that of the first embodiment. Therefore, below, it demonstrates regarding the installation position of the water addition valve of 2nd Embodiment, and other description is abbreviate | omitted. In the following description of the internal combustion engine 10A to which the exhaust purification device 1A of the second embodiment is applied, the same reference numerals are used for the same or corresponding components as those of the internal combustion engine 10 to which the first embodiment is applied. In addition, redundant description thereof will be omitted. Note that changes to the first embodiment can also be applied to the second embodiment.

The water addition valve 42 is positioned so as to supply water toward the SCR catalyst 22. Specifically, the water supply valve 42 is positioned so as to be located downstream of the urea water addition valve 26 in the axial direction of the exhaust passage 12. Thereby, preferably, the water supplied from the water addition valve 42 is directly applied to the SCR catalyst 22. Therefore, since the exhaust gas temperature and the SCR catalyst temperature are low (the temperature is in the predetermined second temperature range), the added and supplied urea water does not sufficiently hydrolyze and adheres to the SCR catalyst 22. Water is supplied to the urea. Thereby, the hydrolysis reaction of the urea is promoted on the SCR catalyst 22, and ammonia can be generated. Therefore, even when the exhaust gas temperature and the SCR catalyst temperature are low, it is possible to appropriately generate ammonia and appropriately perform NOx purification.

Next, a third embodiment according to the present invention will be described. However, the third embodiment is substantially the same as the first and second embodiments except that the water supply position and the configuration associated therewith differ from the first and second embodiments. Therefore, below, it demonstrates regarding those differences in 3rd Embodiment, and other description is abbreviate | omitted. In the following description of the internal combustion engine 10B to which the exhaust emission control device 1B of the third embodiment is applied, the same reference numerals are used for the same or corresponding components as those of the internal combustion engine 10 to which the first embodiment is applied. In addition, redundant description thereof will be omitted. In the third embodiment, changes to the first embodiment can also be applied.

In the urea water supply apparatus 100 according to the third embodiment, the mixing chamber 102 is disposed upstream of the urea water addition valve 26 and downstream of the urea water tank 32. A check valve 104 is arranged on the upstream side of the mixing chamber 102 so that urea water pumped from the urea water tank 32 to the mixing chamber 102 does not flow back to the urea water tank 32. .

On the other hand, the water supply passage 46 of the water addition apparatus 200 of the third embodiment is communicated with the mixing chamber 102. A check valve 202 is disposed in the water supply passage 46 on the upstream side of the mixing chamber 102, and is configured so that water that is pumped from the water tank 48 and reaches the mixing chamber 102 does not flow back to the water tank 48. ing.

The urea water supply from the urea water supply apparatus 100 is performed based on the flowchart of FIG. Moreover, the water supply from the water supply apparatus 200 is performed based on the flowchart of FIG. However, since the third embodiment includes the above-described configuration, the mixing of water and urea water is performed in the mixing chamber 102 of the urea water supply apparatus 100. Then, the urea water with the water amount increased by being combined with the urea water is injected and supplied to the exhaust passage 12m. Thus, the same effect as described in the first embodiment is achieved.

As mentioned above, although this invention was demonstrated based on the said three embodiment, this invention is not limited to these. Each aspect of the first to third embodiments can be combined partially or entirely as long as no contradiction occurs.

Further, the present invention can be applied to an internal combustion engine other than the compression ignition type internal combustion engine, for example, a spark ignition type internal combustion engine, particularly a direct injection lean burn gasoline internal combustion engine.
