Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to an optical device including an optical element that changes the characteristics of light emitted from an optical waveguide and an optical transceiver using the optical device, and more particularly to an optical device excellent in stability of optical characteristics against temperature changes and the optical device. The present invention relates to an optical transmitter / receiver using an optical fiber.
Along with the increase in capacity of optical communication devices and optical communication systems in the communication field, miniaturization of these optical communication devices and optical communication systems is being promoted. As a result, downsizing of the optical device is indispensable, and an adhesive is frequently used to fix the member in a limited space in the optical device.
Examples of optical devices using adhesives include an optical isolator module that prevents reflected light from returning to the optical fiber, a multi-branch device that uses signal light of the optical fiber divided into a plurality of optical fibers, There is an optical multiplexer / demultiplexer that multiplexes or demultiplexes light of many wavelengths in a fiber.
As an example of the optical device, an optical multiplexer / demultiplexer denoted as a whole by 100 is shown in FIG. FIG. 5 is a side view of the optical multiplexer /
The optical multiplexer /
However, in the conventional optical multiplexer /
Accordingly, an object of the present invention is to provide an optical device excellent in stability of optical characteristics with respect to a temperature change and an optical transceiver using the same.

A first optical waveguide fixed to the base so as to oppose the first light incident / exit surface, and a second optical waveguide fixed to the base such that one end face thereof faces the second light incident / exit surface. An optical waveguide, wherein the first light incident / exit surface, the second light incident / exit surface and the bottom surface of the optical element are bonded to the inner surface of the recess, The area of the adhesion surface of the bottom surface of the optical element to the optical element is equal to or less than the area of the bottom surface of the optical element.
In the optical device according to the aspect of the invention, it is preferable that an adhesive area on the bottom surface of the optical element is smaller than an adhesive area of the first light incident / exit surface or the second light incident / exit surface.
In the optical device according to the aspect of the invention, preferably, the bottom surface of the concave portion has a convex portion in a portion facing the bottom surface of the optical element, and the protruding surface of the convex portion and the bottom surface of the optical element are bonded. It is characterized by being.
In the optical device of the present invention, it is preferable that at least one of the first optical waveguide and the second optical waveguide has a refractive index distribution fiber and a coreless connected to the end of the refractive index distribution fiber. And a fiber.
In the optical device of the present invention, preferably, the optical device further includes a third optical waveguide, and the optical element includes the first optical waveguide, the second optical waveguide, and the third optical waveguide. Light incident from two optical waveguides selected from the body is emitted to the remaining one optical waveguide, or incident from one optical waveguide selected from the first to third optical waveguides It is an optical filter that emits light to the remaining two optical waveguides.
An optical transceiver according to the present invention receives any of the optical devices according to the present invention, light emitting means for transmitting light incident on the optical device, and light transmitted from the light emitting means via the device. And a light receiving means.
According to the present invention, in the optical device for fixing a member using an adhesive and the optical transceiver using the optical device, the area of the adhesive surface with the optical element on the bottom surface of the recess provided in the base is the optical element. Therefore, it is possible to reduce the generation of stress between the adhesive and the substrate accompanying the change in the environmental temperature. Therefore, it is possible to mitigate tilting or deformation of the optical element, and it is possible to provide an optical device and an optical transceiver that are excellent in stability of optical characteristics against temperature changes.
Hereinafter, embodiments of the present invention will be described in detail with reference to the drawings. In the following description, terms indicating specific directions and positions (for example, “up”, “down”, “right”, “left” and other terms including those terms) are used as necessary. These terms are used for easy understanding of the invention with reference to the drawings, and the technical scope of the present invention is not limited by the meaning of these terms. Moreover, the part of the same code | symbol which appears in several drawing shows the same part or member.
The inventor has intensively investigated the cause of the deterioration of the optical characteristics in the optical multiplexer /
Therefore, the inventors of the present application have confirmed that this stress can be greatly reduced by reducing the adhesion area between the
FIG. 1 shows an example of an optical device according to the first embodiment of the present invention. FIG. 1A is a top view of the optical multiplexer /
The optical multiplexer /
The first to third
A
An
As shown in FIG. 1B, the
The second light incident / exit surface of the optical filter 4 (the right side surface in FIG. 1B) and the other side surface of the recess 15 (the right side surface in FIG. 1B) are translucent. 2
As shown in FIG. 1 (b), the
Furthermore, by setting the adhesive area to be equal to or less than the bottom surface of the
The
That is, the
The
The elastic modulus E indicates the ratio between strain and force. For example, when a non-measured object having a cross-sectional area S is pulled with a force F, if it is extended by ΔL from the original length L, E = (F / S) / ( ΔL / L).
Further, the hardness of the adhesive may be evaluated by Shore D hardness in addition to the elastic modulus. Some gel-like adhesives are difficult to measure the elastic modulus, and in that case, the hardness may be evaluated by penetration instead of the elastic modulus or Shore D hardness. The Shore D hardness indicates the hardness of the sample by pressing a predetermined pin against the sample and its repulsive force. The larger the value, the harder the material. On the other hand, the penetration degree indicates the hardness of the sample by the length that the needle having a specified weight enters the sample while standing vertically in the sample. A smaller value indicates a harder material.
The
In the optical multiplexer /
Since the
Next, FIG. 2 shows an example of an optical device according to the second embodiment of the present invention. 2A is a top view of the optical multiplexer /
In the example of the second embodiment of the present invention, the shape of the
By setting the width of the
Furthermore, by setting the adhesive area to be equal to or less than the bottom surface of the
In the first embodiment, the width of the
As described above, the present embodiment in which the optical element such as the

Light including wavelength regions λ1 and λ2 enters the first
Of the light reaching the

Below, the detail of the member which comprises the optical multiplexer /

The
The

Note that the epoxy resin, the silicon resin, and the acrylic resin have the property of being cured by ultraviolet rays or thermosetting by the addition of additives, and therefore may have properties of curing by ultraviolet rays and / or heat curing.
