Description
The present invention comprises an electronic pen that emits at least an infrared signal and an ultrasonic signal, and a handwriting handwriting input system that receives the infrared signal and the ultrasonic signal and calculates a position coordinate of the electronic pen from the arrival time difference Then, by correcting the time exceeding the predetermined threshold to the time when the ultrasonic signal arrived, from the ratio of the maximum value within the half cycle after exceeding the predetermined threshold to the maximum value of the ultrasonic signal The present invention relates to a handwriting handwriting input system that improves the accuracy of position coordinates of an electronic pen.
Conventionally, a position detection technique of an electronic pen using an infrared signal or an ultrasonic signal is known. For example, in Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. Sho 62-175721 (see Patent Document 1) and US Pat. No. 4,814,552 (see Patent Document 2), an ultrasonic signal or an infrared signal and an ultrasonic wave are transmitted from an electronic pen. A technique is disclosed in which signals are generated, those signals are received by a receiving unit, and the position coordinates of the electronic pen are calculated based on the time of flight of the ultrasonic signal.
A handwritten handwriting input system using these position detection techniques is, for example, as follows. A writer writes characters and figures using an electronic pen. At this time, the electronic pen may incorporate a ballpoint pen, for example, so that a recording medium such as paper may be used as a writing surface, and handwriting may be recorded on the recording medium. The electronic pen may include a stylus, for example. Any surface including the surface of the liquid crystal display may be used as a writing surface. At least while the pen tip of the electronic pen is in contact with the writing surface, infrared signals and ultrasonic signals are repeatedly transmitted from the electronic pen, and the receiving unit receives the infrared signals and ultrasonic signals transmitted from the electronic pen. Then, the flight time of the ultrasonic signal is measured from the difference between the arrival time of the infrared signal and the arrival time of the ultrasonic signal, and the coordinate calculation unit calculates the position coordinate data of the electronic pen from the flight time of the ultrasonic signal.
In the conversion from position coordinate data to handwriting data, information expressing features such as handwriting data derived from the handwriting written by the writer is added to the position coordinate data, or individual positions based on these features are added. This refers to processing for modifying the coordinate data, and includes, for example, any of the following processing. Information on the time when the position coordinate data is received is added. Based on the acquisition interval of the position coordinate data, the writing speed is calculated, or a set of position coordinates is identified as one stroke data including the writing order and speed as information. The continuous position coordinate data constituting one stroke data is corrected so as to draw a smooth line. Further, based on conditions such as extraction and integration of circumscribed rectangles of stroke data and restriction of writing position, the stroke data is grouped into character group data including information such as the order of writing.
If the handwriting handwriting input system has good measurement accuracy, the fields that can be used will be expanded. For example, handwriting can be displayed on the screen of electronic devices, used as code data through character recognition processing, etc., handwriting shape, stroke speed, stop It is used for arbitrary purposes such as extraction of the character characteristics of the writer including the writing characteristics such as splash, hare, and signature authentication. Moreover, if it is the structure which supplies a power supply to the whole handwriting handwriting input system, the use will be possible outdoors and a use application will increase significantly. In addition, when used in combination with character recognition conversion software that converts handwriting data into character data for use in a word processor, etc., it can be used as an input means that can easily input characters, pictures, symbols, etc. by hand as well as character data. Attention has been paid.
In order to improve the measurement accuracy of the handwriting input system, it is important to accurately measure the arrival time of the ultrasonic wave. For this purpose, it is necessary to accurately detect the rising part of the first cycle of the ultrasonic wave. In order to avoid erroneous detection due to noise, the time at which a certain interval is corrected from the time when the amplitude of the waveform exceeds a certain threshold is defined as the arrival time of the ultrasonic wave.
In this case, when the distance to the detection target is short, the amplitude of the received ultrasonic signal is also sufficiently large, and the first cycle can be detected with a certain threshold value. As a result, the amplitude of the ultrasonic wave becomes small, and the second period may be detected with a certain threshold. As a result, an error for one cycle occurs.
As a method of calculating the ultrasonic reception time with high accuracy, Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 8-254454 transmits an ultrasonic signal to a measurement object, receives an ultrasonic signal that is reflected and returned, In the device that measures the time from transmission to reception of the ultrasonic signal and measures the distance to the measurement object, the reception of the ultrasonic signal detects a plurality of peak points appearing in the waveform, and these A zero cross point where a virtual envelope connecting peak points intersects the zero level of the waveform is detected. Then, the elapsed time from the rising edge of the first cycle of the waveform of transmission of the ultrasonic signal to the zero cross point of the waveform of reception is measured, a predetermined offset time is added to the measured value, and based on the addition result The distance to the measurement object is calculated and the measurement accuracy is improved.
However, when the handwritten handwriting input system described in
The present invention has been made to solve the above problems, and an object thereof is to realize a handwritten handwriting input system that is low in cost, has a short time for detecting position coordinates, and has high measurement accuracy.
In the handwritten handwriting input system of the present invention, the ultrasonic reception waveform is measured in advance using a dedicated device, the ratio of the maximum value for each period to the maximum value, and the arrival time of the ultrasonic signal for each period. Times until the time when the ultrasonic signal exceeds a predetermined threshold are determined, and these values are stored in the RAM of the coordinate calculation unit.
The receiver of the present invention is provided with a peak hold circuit in addition to an ultrasonic receiving unit, an amplifier, a filter circuit, a comparator, a timer, a memory, a CPU, and a RAM necessary for receiving ultrasonic waves. From the time when the comparator detects an ultrasonic signal exceeding a predetermined threshold, the maximum value of the ultrasonic signal and the maximum value within a half cycle are measured by the peak hold circuit. Based on the ratio of the maximum value within a half cycle to the maximum value of the ultrasonic signal, the predetermined value detected by the comparator is exceeded by referring to the aforementioned value stored in advance in the RAM of the coordinate calculation unit. The accuracy of the ultrasonic signal is determined by determining the period of the ultrasonic signal and correcting the time of the detected ultrasonic signal exceeding a predetermined threshold to the arrival time of the ultrasonic signal. The position coordinates can be obtained.
As a method for obtaining the maximum value of the ultrasonic reception signal, measurement may be performed using the peak hold circuit as described above. However, since the ultrasonic signal is attenuated at a certain ratio, the ultrasonic reception waveform is previously obtained. When measuring using a dedicated device, the distance of the electronic pen is changed to measure the attenuation method, and the approximate expression is stored in the RAM of the coordinate calculation unit, so that the ultrasonic wave at the time detected by the comparator is detected. The maximum value of the received signal may be calculated.
Further, the maximum value of the ultrasonic reception signal after exceeding the predetermined threshold is detected by the peak hold circuit, and the threshold value of the comparator is reset to a predetermined ratio from the detected value, whereby the maximum value of the ultrasonic signal is detected. The specific period of the ultrasonic signal can be detected from only the maximum value of the ultrasonic signal, not the ratio of the maximum value within a half cycle, and by correcting until the arrival time of the ultrasonic signal with a fixed correction value , Accurate position coordinates can be obtained.
As described above, the present invention does not require a complicated circuit, and even when the distance between the electronic pen as the transmitter and the receiver is long and the amplitude of the entire ultrasonic signal is small, the arrival of the ultrasonic signal Time can be accurately measured at high speed.
At this time, since it is not necessary to constantly measure the amplitude of the waveform of the ultrasonic signal or to store the waveform data in a memory, a large amount of memory and a high-speed, high-resolution A / D converter are not required. There is no risk of high costs. Furthermore, power consumption is reduced, and a dry battery can be used as a power source, and it can also be used on a mobile.
DESCRIPTION OF EXEMPLARY EMBODIMENTS Hereinafter, a preferred embodiment of a handwriting handwriting input system according to the invention will be described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings. FIG. 1 is a perspective view showing an example of a handwritten handwriting input system according to the present embodiment. In the figure, a
The structure of the electronic pen will be described with reference to the block diagram of the electronic pen in FIG. The basic configuration of the

In addition, after a certain period of time, for example, after two cycles of self-oscillation, the first process is repeated again, so that self-oscillation can be stopped at the
By performing the transmission method as described above, a voltage as shown in FIG. 4 is applied to the piezo element 12. In the first step, the boosting
An ultrasonic wave as shown in FIG. 5 is transmitted from the piezoelectric element 12 to which such a voltage is applied. At first, the piezoelectric element 12 cannot vibrate sufficiently due to the influence of the static frictional force, but the amplitude gradually increases. After that, the maximum amplitude is reached, but since the voltage drops, the waveform gradually attenuates as a residue. Further, if the first step is repeated again after the generation of ultrasonic waves, the amplitude of the piezo element is rapidly reduced and the residue is further reduced.

Next, the structure of the
Next, correction values stored in advance in the RAM of the coordinate calculation unit will be described.
In the handwritten handwriting input system of the present invention, the ultrasonic reception waveform is measured in advance using a dedicated device, the ratio of the maximum value for each period to the maximum value of the ultrasonic signal, and the arrival time of the ultrasonic signal From time to time until the time when a predetermined threshold value of the ultrasonic signal of each cycle is exceeded is obtained, and these values are stored in the RAM 46 of the coordinate
The ultrasonic wave reception waveform is attenuated by the distance, but it is attenuated at the same rate in any period. Therefore, the waveform may be measured at one specific distance, and it is less affected by the environment as the distance is measured closer. Therefore, it can be measured accurately.
For example, when the waveform has the maximum value in the second period as shown in FIG. 7, the coordinate calculation is performed using the value e obtained by dividing the maximum value c in the first period by the maximum value d in the second period as the ratio in the first period. The data is stored in the RAM 46 of the
When measuring the waveform, the amplitude of the ultrasonic signal may fluctuate depending on the environment, but since the magnitude of the fluctuation is smaller than the maximum value c and the maximum value d, it is the ratio of the first cycle. Although the influence on the value e is small, from the viewpoint of certainty, by making the value e slightly larger than the maximum value when measured 100 times, for example, even if there is a fluctuation in amplitude, it is possible to mistake the number of cycles. Can be judged.
The predetermined threshold is a value smaller than the maximum value at least when the electronic pen transmits an ultrasonic signal at the farthest position in the writing range, and is set to a value larger than the noise. At this time, by setting the value as small as possible within this range, the ultrasonic signal to be detected can detect the period close to the first period, for example, when the maximum values in the first period and the second period are close to each other. However, the comparator can determine that the first cycle has been detected.
Similarly, for example, the ultrasonic reception waveform differs due to the influence of the circuit configuration such as the mechanical impedance of the piezo element and the resistance of the coil of the LC resonance circuit. When the waveform has a maximum value in the third period as shown in FIG. 8, a value k obtained by dividing the maximum value h in the first period by the maximum value j in the third period is 3 as the maximum value i in the second period. A value l divided by the maximum value j of the period is stored in the RAM 46 of the coordinate

Next, the ultrasonic signals transmitted from the

Thereafter, the
In this way, by setting the period for turning on the peak hold circuit to a predetermined number of cycles, the reflected wave of the ultrasonic wave does not normally appear in the first part of the waveform, and thus is not affected by the reflected wave or the like. In addition, it is possible to measure an ultrasonic signal when the piezo element has the maximum amplitude. For the period during which the peak hold circuit is turned on, for example, when the ultrasonic reception waveform is measured using a dedicated device, the period of the maximum value is measured in advance, and the number of periods is determined. The predetermined number of cycles may be stored in the RAM 46 of the coordinate
For example, when a waveform as shown in FIG. 7 is measured by a dedicated device capable of measuring the waveform, the RAM 46 of the coordinate
Similarly, for example, when a waveform as shown in FIG. 8 is measured by a dedicated device capable of measuring the waveform, the value k is set as the ratio of the first cycle in the RAM 46 of the coordinate
Thereafter, if the value v obtained by dividing the maximum value t by the maximum value u is smaller than the value k, the

When only one peak hold circuit can be installed in the ultrasonic reception circuit, measure the attenuation method by changing the distance of the electronic pen in advance when measuring the ultrasonic reception waveform using a dedicated device. By storing the approximate expression in the RAM 46 of the coordinate
In order to obtain the constants γ and δ of
There is also a method of resetting the threshold value of the comparator for detecting the next received ultrasonic signal in accordance with the maximum value of the ultrasonic signal. First, the initial value of the threshold value of the comparator 40 of the
The handwritten handwriting input system set in this way will be described with reference to FIG. First, the
In this case, although the first ultrasonic signal cannot be corrected, in the handwritten handwriting input system, the first position is a position immediately after the electronic pen touches the recording medium, and thus does not cause a big problem. In this case, the shorter the constant repetition interval between the infrared signal and the ultrasonic signal is, the shorter the moving distance of the electronic pen is.

(Comparative Example 1)
The
The configuration was the same as in Example 1. That is, the correction value from the time when the comparator detects the ultrasonic wave is corrected as 625 μs. Other than that, the configuration is the same as that of the first embodiment.
Evaluation similar to Example 1 was performed using the system of Comparative Example 1 described above. As a result, the position coordinate of the electronic pen could be detected accurately at 10 times at the position of 100 mm, but the distance of about 304 mm was shown at 10 times at the position of 300 mm. This is because the period detected by the comparator at the position of 300 mm was the second period, and was calculated to be longer by one period.
(Comparative Example 2)
The
Evaluation similar to Example 1 was performed using the system of Comparative Example 2 described above. As a result, the position coordinates of the electronic pen could be accurately detected 10 times for both 100 mm and 300 mm positions.

When comparing the configuration of the whole handwriting handwriting input system, only the system of Comparative Example 2 uses a large-capacity memory, consumes much power, and requires a large-scale system compared to other systems.
From the above, it was confirmed that the present invention is effective.
