Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a display device, and more particularly to a display device having a function of performing color adjustment on a color image.
In a display device such as a liquid crystal television using a liquid crystal panel as a display unit, a function of adjusting a color to display a desired image in accordance with a use condition or the like is provided when displaying a color image. In particular, the HSV color space conversion process in which the color signal is represented by three attributes of hue H (Hue), saturation S (Saturation), and brightness V (Value) adjusts the hue, saturation, and brightness independently. Can be widely adopted.
Also in a television receiver using a liquid crystal panel as a display device, the color adjustment function by HSV as described above is provided. This color adjustment function is also called a color management function.
In an example of the color management function, each of the six system colors (R (red), G (green), B (blue), Y (yellow), C (cyan), and M (magenta)), which are components of hue, Can be adjusted to individually change the hue H, saturation S, and brightness V. When the hue adjustment is performed, an arbitrary system color is selected from the above 6 system colors by a user operation, and the hue adjustment is possible for the selected system color. For example, when R (red) is selected, if the adjustment value is adjusted to the + side, the hue of R (red) is changed to approach yellow, and if it is adjusted to the-side, it is changed to approach magenta. The In addition, when changing the saturation or lightness, an arbitrary system color is selected from the above 6 system colors, and the saturation (color density) or brightness can be adjusted for the selected system color. ing.
In addition to the color management function that adjusts the hue, brightness, and saturation of the selected system color, the color intensity (saturation) can be adjusted uniformly regardless of the system color in an example of a television receiver as described above. A color gain adjustment function for adjusting the hue and a tint adjustment function for adjusting the hue uniformly.
FIG. 16 is a diagram for explaining an example of a conventional color adjustment function. As described above, the conventional color adjustment function includes a color management function that can adjust the hue, saturation, and brightness for each of the multiple system colors obtained by dividing the hue, and saturation (color density) at the full luminance level. There is a color gain adjustment function that adjusts uniformly in the range, and a tint adjustment function that adjusts hue uniformly.
The saturation is adjusted, for example, by increasing or decreasing the color component UV of the YUV signal. This adjustment value is a color setting value. As shown in FIG. 11A or FIG. 8, a color setting value is preset for the luminance (Y) of the video signal. The color setting value can be increased or decreased by a menu operation by the user. Increasing the color setting value makes the color darker (higher saturation), and decreasing the color setting value vice versa.
The above processing is the same for the color management function and the color gain adjustment function. If the color management function is used, the saturation can be adjusted for each selected system color, and if the color gain function is used, the system Saturation can be adjusted uniformly regardless of color.
As described above, in the process of adjusting the saturation of the video signal, adjustment is performed to increase or decrease the color component while keeping the luminance component constant among the luminance component and the color component of the video signal. Here, regardless of the luminance level of the video signal, the color is uniformly darkened or thinned (saturation changes).
Therefore, with the conventional technology as described above, the saturation cannot be arbitrarily adjusted at a specific luminance level of the video signal. For example, when B (blue) is selected as the system color, when the blue color is dark blue (low brightness blue), blue is lightened (saturation is low), or when bright blue (high brightness blue) is selected In other words, it was not possible to perform control such as deepening blue (increasing saturation). For example, since the color looks too dark in a dark scene, when the user adjusts the color to lighten, the color density changes uniformly, causing problems such as being too light in a bright scene. there were. That is, there is a problem that the adjustment that increases or decreases the color setting value uniformly regardless of the luminance level of the video signal has a low degree of freedom in adjustment and cannot always obtain the desired quality.
Further, in a display device using a liquid crystal display, a plasma display, or the like, the white balance is not uniform, and depending on the adjustment accuracy, the display color may change depending on the luminance level of the video signal. For example, a phenomenon may occur in which the skin color looks yellowish in a dark part of the video signal, while the skin color appears reddish in a bright part. In other words, if the hue adjustment according to the luminance level of the video signal is possible, the degree of freedom becomes higher and the video of the product desired by the user can be obtained.
Similarly, with regard to the brightness, conventionally, the brightness is uniformly adjusted regardless of the luminance level of the video signal. However, for example, when attempting to increase the brightness of a dark (low brightness) yellow by increasing the brightness of a system color such as yellow, the brightness of the bright (high brightness) yellow will increase too much, In some cases, the quality deteriorates. If various brightness adjustments can be easily made according to the luminance level of the video signal, the degree of freedom of adjustment can be further increased, and a video of a user-desired quality can be obtained.
Further, some conventional liquid crystal televisions have a color correction function corresponding to the luminance. This liquid crystal television can finely set the color intensity according to the luminance of the video signal. However, since this configuration is managed by a look-up table and its operation is complicated, it has been put to practical use as an internal setting of a liquid crystal television, and color correction according to luminance is not open to the user. There was no means for color correction.
The present invention has been made in view of the above circumstances, and by providing a user with means for enabling adjustment of saturation, hue, and brightness in a specific luminance range of a video signal, the user's desired quality is achieved. It is an object of the present invention to provide a display device that can easily set the image quality.

Next, the color management function and the tint / color gain adjustment function provided in the display device will be described more specifically. As described above, the

そして6分割した領域の色相は、上記の6つの系統色であるR(赤)、G(緑)、B(青)、Y(黄)、C(シアン)、及びM(マゼンタ)に対応している。 FIG. 2 is a chromaticity diagram showing hue, saturation, and lightness in a conical shape, and FIG. 3 is a diagram for explaining the hue division and the hue axis adjustment state on the chromaticity diagram. FIG. 3 corresponds to the conical section of the conical chromaticity diagram of FIG. In FIG. 3, the hue represented by 0 to 360 ° is divided into six in the angular direction, and each hue region of 60 degrees is displayed in correspondence with the phase angle. The hues of the six divided regions correspond to the six system colors R (red), G (green), B (blue), Y (yellow), C (cyan), and M (magenta). ing.
In the embodiment according to the present invention, the hue can be divided into six and thus six-axis color management can be executed. However, the number of divisions is not limited to six. However, in order to facilitate selection and determination by the user, in the present embodiment, the number of divisions is made to correspond to six system colors.
In the
When adjusting the hue, one of the system colors is selected in accordance with a user operation, and the phase angle of the hue corresponding to the selected system color is rotated. In FIG. 3, for example, when Y (yellow) is selected by a user operation and the phase angle of Y is adjusted by a user operation, the hue of Y rotates in the direction of arrow A so that, for example, a state indicated by a hatched area is obtained. Can be adjusted.
Similarly, when adjusting the saturation, one of the system colors is selected according to the user operation, and the color component (UV) of the selected system color is increased or decreased according to the user operation. Accordingly, it is possible to adjust the color density (saturation) for the selected system color. When the saturation is adjusted, the fan-shaped region corresponding to each system color in FIG. 3 is adjusted so that the similarity is enlarged or reduced in the arrow B direction.
Further, when adjusting the brightness, similarly, one of the system colors is selected according to the user operation, and the luminance component Y of the selected system color is increased or decreased according to the user operation. 2 is adjusted so that the cutting position of the cone in FIG. 1 (the position corresponding to the conical section in FIG. 2) moves in the perpendicular direction (lightness direction) of the cone. .
On the other hand, the tint / color
When adjusting the hue, the entire six-axis hue shown in FIG. 3 is rotated in the direction of arrow A by a user operation. Further, when adjusting the saturation, a process of increasing or decreasing the color component (UV) of the video signal according to the user setting is performed. As a result, the saturation corresponding to the adjustment value is set for all hues.
The embodiment according to the present invention is characterized in that, in the color adjustment function as described above, the color management function and the tint / color gain adjustment function enable color adjustment according to the luminance range of the video signal. .
FIG. 4 is a diagram for explaining saturation adjustment by the color management function. As described above, in the color management function of this embodiment, the hue, saturation, and brightness are individually adjusted for each of the six system colors (R, G, B, Y, C, and M) that are components of the hue. can do. Here, the saturation adjustment will be described.
As shown in FIG. 4, among the range of luminance values that can be taken by the video signal (for example, the gradation of 0 to 255 when quantized with an 8-bit gradation), The high brightness side range H is determined in advance. For example, as an example, the low luminance side range L is set to have the lowest luminance side of the entire luminance range and 1/3 of the entire luminance range, and the high luminance side range H is the highest of the entire luminance range. On the luminance side, it can be set to have a range of 1/3 of the total luminance range. The setting of these luminance ranges is not limited to this example, and an optimal range and position can be set as appropriate. Further, as the luminance range to be adjusted, not only two adjustment ranges on the low luminance side and high luminance side, but also three or more adjustment ranges may be set.
In the example of FIG. 4, in the low luminance side range L and the high luminance side range H, the color setting value is kept constant with respect to the luminance value Y of the video signal on the horizontal axis. The color setting value is an adjustment value that increases or decreases the color component (UV). In this example, the color setting values of the low-luminance side range L and the high-luminance side range H are constant, but the color setting values may vary within these ranges.
The color setting characteristic of the intermediate luminance range M between the high luminance side range H and the low luminance side range L is a curve interpolation between the color setting value of the high luminance side range H and the color setting value of the low luminance side range L. And generate. The method of curve interpolation is not limited to a specific method, and a known interpolation method can be applied as appropriate. By performing the curve interpolation, it is possible to alleviate a rapid change in the color setting value between the adjustment target ranges, and to suppress a reduction in video quality.
The user can individually adjust the color setting value of the high luminance range H and the color setting value of the low luminance range L as described above when adjusting the saturation of the video signal.
That is, first, the user performs an operation of selecting saturation as the adjustment target item, selects a system color to be adjusted from the six system colors, and further selects the low brightness range L or the high brightness range H for the selected system color. Is selected, and an operation to increase or decrease the color setting value of the selected luminance range is performed. Here, as shown in FIG. 4, it is possible to perform an adjustment to increase or decrease the color setting value of the adjustment target item according to the operation. When adjustment for increasing or decreasing the color setting value is performed, in the intermediate luminance range between the low luminance range L and the high luminance range H, these adjustment values are interpolated by curve interpolation.
FIG. 5 is a diagram for explaining another example of saturation control by the color management function. In the example of FIG. 4 described above, the color setting value in the intermediate luminance range M between the high luminance side range H and the low luminance side range L is generated by curve interpolation. On the other hand, in the example of FIG. 5, the color setting value of the intermediate luminance range M is generated by linearly interpolating the color setting value of the high luminance side range H and the color setting value of the low luminance side range L. . In the linear interpolation, a smooth change cannot be obtained in that the inclination of the color setting value changes. However, since the process is simple, the linear interpolation may be selected according to the required quality of the video.

An intermediate luminance range M between the high luminance side range H and the low luminance side range L has a characteristic obtained by curve interpolation between the color setting value of the high luminance side range H and the color setting value of the low luminance side range L. Like that. Here, the method of curve interpolation is not limited to a specific method, and a known interpolation method can be applied as appropriate. Also in the hue adjustment, linear interpolation may be applied in the intermediate luminance range M instead of curve interpolation.
The user performs an operation of selecting a hue as an adjustment target item, selects a system color to be adjusted from the six system colors, further selects a low brightness range L or a high brightness range H for the selected system color, An operation for increasing or decreasing the phase angle is performed for each adjustment range. When adjustment to increase or decrease the phase angle is performed, in the luminance range M intermediate between the low luminance range L and the high luminance range H, these adjustment values are interpolated by curve interpolation (or linear interpolation).
FIG. 7 is a diagram for explaining an example of brightness control by the color management function.
The
Also in the case of brightness adjustment, a low luminance side range L and a high luminance side range H to be adjusted are predetermined in the luminance value range that can be taken by the video signal. In the low luminance side range L and the high luminance side range H, the brightness value is kept constant with respect to the luminance value Y on the horizontal axis. The brightness Y of the video signal is increased or decreased by the brightness adjustment. In this example as well, the brightness of the low-luminance side range L and the high-luminance side range H may have a characteristic that changes within the range.
The brightness of the intermediate brightness range M between the high brightness side range H and the low brightness side range L has a characteristic obtained by curve interpolation between the brightness of the high brightness side range H and the brightness of the low brightness side range L. Like that. Here, the method of curve interpolation is not limited to a specific method, and a known interpolation method can be applied as appropriate. Also in the brightness adjustment, linear interpolation can be applied in the middle luminance range M instead of curve interpolation.
The user performs an operation of selecting a hue as an adjustment target item, selects a system color to be adjusted from the six system colors, further selects a low brightness range L or a high brightness range H for the selected system color, An operation to increase or decrease the brightness for each adjustment range is performed. When the adjustment for increasing or decreasing the brightness is performed, in the luminance range M intermediate between the low luminance range L and the high luminance range H, these adjustment values are interpolated by curve interpolation (or linear interpolation).
In the above example, the saturation, hue, and brightness adjustment by the color management function has been described. Similarly, in the tint / color gain adjustment, color adjustment can be performed for each preset luminance range.
When performing the tint adjustment, the adjustment can be performed by the method shown in FIG. That is, the user performs an operation of selecting a tint as the adjustment target item. In this case, unlike the color management function, it is not necessary to select the system color to be adjusted from the 6 system colors. Then, a low luminance range L or a high luminance range H as a tint adjustment range is selected, and an operation for increasing or decreasing the phase angle is performed for each adjustment range. When adjustment to increase or decrease the phase angle is performed, in the luminance range M intermediate between the low luminance range L and the high luminance range H, these adjustment values are interpolated by curve interpolation (or linear interpolation). Thereby, the hue is adjusted uniformly regardless of the system color.
Further, when the saturation is adjusted by the color gain function, the adjustment can be performed by the method shown in FIG. 4 (or FIG. 5). The user performs an operation of selecting color intensity (saturation) as an adjustment target item. In this case, unlike the color management function, it is not necessary to select the system color to be adjusted from the 6 system colors. Then, the low luminance range L or the high luminance range H as the saturation adjustment range is selected, and an operation for increasing or decreasing the color setting value for each adjustment range is performed. When the adjustment for increasing or decreasing the color setting is performed, in the luminance range M intermediate between the low luminance range L and the high luminance range H, these adjustment values are interpolated by curve interpolation (or linear interpolation). As a result, the color density (saturation) is adjusted uniformly regardless of the system color.
Next, UI display for performing color adjustment using the color management function and the tint / color gain function will be described.
