Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to an electrophotographic photosensitive member in which a film-forming layer including at least a photosensitive layer is formed on the outer surface of a cylindrical substrate, and a method for producing the same.
Although various forms are known as an electrophotographic photosensitive member, a drum-like form is common. The drum-shaped electrophotographic photosensitive member is obtained by forming a desired layer such as an amorphous silicon (hereinafter referred to as “a-Si”) photoconductive layer on the surface of a cylindrical substrate. Various methods for forming an a-Si photoconductive layer on a cylindrical substrate are known. In particular, the plasma CVD method is currently in practical use. This plasma CVD method is a method in which a source gas is decomposed by direct current or high frequency, microwave glow discharge, or the like to form a deposited film on a cylindrical substrate.
When an electrophotographic photosensitive member is produced by this plasma CVD method, a glow discharge plasma CVD apparatus 9 as shown in FIG. 9 is used (see, for example, Patent Document 1).
The glow discharge plasma CVD apparatus 9 shown in the figure forms an a-Si-based film by glow discharge plasma on a cylindrical
When the a-Si film is formed on the
When a desired film is formed on the
However, since the adjacent
Such fine protrusions cause image black spots and cause image deterioration when an image is formed by incorporating an electrophotographic photosensitive member into the image forming apparatus. Therefore, the electrophotographic photosensitive member on which the minute protrusions are formed must be discarded as a defective product, which causes the yield to be deteriorated, so that the cost cannot be reduced and the demand for lowering the cost can be met. Can not.
Further, when no deposited film is formed on the
The present invention makes it possible to form a film with few film-forming defects such as minute protrusions on a cylindrical substrate and to prevent film peeling and to produce an electrophotographic photosensitive member with a high yield. It is an issue.
In the first aspect of the present invention, there is provided an electrophotographic photosensitive member comprising a cylindrical substrate and a film-forming layer including at least a photosensitive layer formed on an outer surface of the cylindrical substrate, The substrate has a roughened end surface, and the surface roughness of the end surface is, for example, an arithmetic average roughness Ra of 2.0 μm or more and 4.5 μm or less. Provided.
The cylindrical base body may further include a chamfered surface formed between the outer peripheral surface and the end surface.
In the second aspect of the present invention, an electrophotographic photoreceptor comprising a first step of supporting a plurality of cylindrical substrates on a substrate support, and a second step of forming a deposited film on the surface of the cylindrical substrate. In the manufacturing method of the first embodiment, the cylindrical substrate having an arithmetic mean roughness Ra having an end surface roughened to 2.0 μm or more and 4.5 μm or less is used, and in the first step, the plurality of cylindrical shapes are used. A method of manufacturing an electrophotographic photosensitive member, comprising: supporting a substrate on the substrate support so that the end surfaces are located at adjacent portions of the cylindrical substrates adjacent to each other. Is provided.
As the cylindrical substrate, a substrate further having a chamfered surface formed between the outer peripheral surface and the end surface can be used.
According to the present invention, when a plurality of cylindrical substrates are used as a substrate support for manufacturing an electrophotographic photosensitive member, a gap is formed between the ends of adjacent cylindrical substrates. That is, when the end surfaces of the cylindrical base are roughened, the end surfaces of the adjacent cylindrical bases are in contact with each other, but the gas is generated at the contact portion because the end surfaces are roughened. A minute gap is formed so as to allow inflow.
As described above, in the present invention, a gap is formed between adjacent cylindrical bases, and the gas existing around the cylindrical base can flow into the gaps. Therefore, when forming a deposited film on the outer surface of the cylindrical substrate, the decomposition component of the source gas flows into the gap between the adjacent cylindrical substrates, and the decomposition component gas is deposited on the surface defining the gap. As a result, a deposited film is formed on the end surface subjected to the roughening treatment continuously from the outer peripheral surface of the cylindrical substrate. Therefore, when the deposited film is formed on the cylindrical substrate, the pulverized deposit adheres to the end of the cylindrical substrate to form minute protrusions, or the deposited film peels off at the end of the cylindrical substrate. It is suppressed. Further, when the deposited film is formed on the end surface that is continuously roughened from the outer peripheral surface, the adhesion of the film at the end of the cylindrical substrate is improved. Therefore, when the cylindrical substrate is removed from the substrate support after completion of the film formation, it is possible to suppress film peeling at the end of the cylindrical substrate. Therefore, in the present invention, the formation of minute projections on the cylindrical substrate is suppressed, and the occurrence of defective products can be suppressed because film peeling and suppression at the end of the cylindrical substrate are suppressed. As a result, the yield when manufacturing the electrophotographic photosensitive member can be improved, and the manufacturing cost can be reduced.
In the following, the present invention will be specifically described with reference to the drawings.
The electrophotographic photoreceptor 1 shown in FIG. 1 is obtained by sequentially laminating a charge
The
The
The charge
The
The

The
The
A

The
The
The
The
The

The plate 41 is for selecting whether the
The
The
As shown in FIG. 3, the rotating means 5 is for rotating the
The

Next, the
The
On the other hand, the

In general, when high-frequency power over the 13.56 MHz RF band is used, ion species generated in the space are accelerated by the electric field and attracted in the direction according to the positive / negative polarity. Since the electric field is continuously reversed, before the ionic species reach the
On the other hand, a pulsating DC voltage is applied so that the
In such a plasma CVD method, in order to obtain an ion sputtering effect efficiently, it is necessary to apply power that avoids continuous reversal of polarity. In addition to the pulse-shaped rectangular wave, a triangular wave DC power and DC voltage are useful. The same effect can be obtained with AC power adjusted so that all voltages have either positive or negative polarity. The polarity of the applied voltage can be freely adjusted in consideration of the film forming speed determined by the density of the ion species and the polarity of the deposited species depending on the kind of the source gas.
Here, in order to efficiently obtain the ion sputtering effect by the pulse voltage, the potential difference between the support 3 (cylindrical substrate 10) and the
More specifically, when the

The

Even if the a-Si
Here, in the formation of the charge
For example, when the charge
When the
The
The
When the
The film thickness of the first SiC layer is determined from the breakdown voltage, the residual potential, the film strength, etc., and is usually 0.1 μm or more and 2.0 μm or less, preferably 0.2 μm or more and 1.0 μm or less, and optimally 0. .3 μm or more and 0.8 μm or less. The film thickness of the second SiC layer is determined from pressure resistance, residual potential, film strength, life (wear resistance), etc., and is usually 0.01 μm or more and 2 μm or less, preferably 0.02 μm or more and 1.0 μm or less. Optimally, the thickness is 0.05 μm or more and 0.8 μm or less.
この場合、原料ガスとしては、C2H2(アセチレンガス)あるいはCH4(メタンガス)などのC含有ガスが用いられる。
The
When the
When film formation on the
As described above, a gap is formed between adjacent
In this example, when the deposited film was formed using the cylindrical shape of the form shown in FIG. 2, the influence on the generation of microprotrusions by roughening the end surface into a satin finish was examined.

The
