The present invention relates to a non-aqueous electrolyte battery.
With the recent development of electronic devices, research and development of secondary batteries having a small size and light weight and a high energy density or a secondary battery having a high output density has been actively promoted. So far, secondary batteries using a positive electrode containing LiCoO 2 or LiMn 2 O 4 as an active material and a negative electrode containing a carbon material, metal oxide or alloy that absorbs and releases lithium have been studied and put into practical use. It has become.
In
When rapid charging and high power discharge are possible, higher reliability than ever is required.
An object of the present invention is to provide a nonaqueous electrolyte battery having a high battery capacity and excellent quick charge performance and reliability.
A nonaqueous electrolyte battery according to the present invention is a nonaqueous electrolyte battery comprising a flat electrode group including a positive electrode, a negative electrode, a separator disposed between the positive electrode and the negative electrode, and a nonaqueous electrolyte. There,
The battery thickness is 2.5 or more and 6 or less, and the thickness per separator layer is 10 μm or more and 30 μm or less when the total value of the thickness of the separator in the battery thickness is 1. Features.
According to the present invention, it is possible to provide a nonaqueous electrolyte battery having a high battery capacity and excellent quick charge performance and reliability.
When the thickness per separator layer is reduced to 10 μm or more and 30 μm or less, the surface area of the separator occupying a certain volume of the battery can be increased. In other words, the facing area of the positive electrode and the negative electrode per certain volume can be increased. It becomes. When the thickness of the separator per layer is greater than 30 μm, not only the internal resistance increases, but also the facing area between the positive electrode and the negative electrode occupying a certain volume cannot be increased sufficiently, and high rapid charge / discharge performance I can't get it. On the other hand, if the thickness per separator layer is less than 10 μm, the risk of separator breakage increases in the manufacturing process, leading to a decrease in yield. Therefore, it is possible to obtain excellent rapid charge / discharge performance by setting the thickness per layer of the separator to 10 μm or more and 30 μm or less. A more preferable range is 10 μm or more and 25 μm or less.
However, if the thickness per layer of the separator is 10 μm or more and 30 μm or less, there is a concern that the safety during the nail penetration test is lowered. When the thickness of one separator layer is 10 μm or more and 30 μm or less, the inventors set the battery thickness to 2.5 or more and 6 or less, where the total thickness of the separator in the battery thickness is 1. By doing so, it has been found that the safety during the nail penetration test is improved.
That is, when the battery thickness exceeds 6, the ratio of the separator in the battery is low, and the positive electrode or the negative electrode is thick. When a nail penetration test was performed on such a battery, it was found that an internal short circuit is likely to occur. Moreover, since the opposing area of the positive electrode and negative electrode which occupies a fixed volume is insufficient, high rapid charge / discharge performance cannot be obtained. It was also found that when the battery thickness is 6 or less, the reliability is increased, but when the battery thickness is less than 2.5, the ratio of the separator in the battery is increased, so that the battery capacity is insufficient. In addition, it was also found that the battery thickness is preferably 3 or more and 6 or less in order to further improve the reliability, rapid charge / discharge performance, and battery capacity.
As the separator, for example, a synthetic resin nonwoven fabric, a polyethylene porous film, a polypropylene porous film, or the like can be used. From the viewpoint of price and performance, a polyethylene porous film is preferred.
The range of the battery thickness is not particularly limited from the viewpoint of safety, but the practical range is 1 mm or more and 20 mm or less. When the battery thickness is less than 1 mm, it is necessary to extremely increase the surface area of the battery in order to ensure the capacity, and the energy efficiency per battery area decreases. On the other hand, if the battery thickness exceeds 20 mm, there is a high possibility that the capacity per battery becomes too large. When the capacity increases, it is necessary to devise a method such as increasing the current collecting terminal so that the current collecting terminal does not become a resistance when a large current flows. However, if the current collecting terminal for one battery becomes thicker, it is inevitably necessary. When the current collector terminal becomes hard and a module in which a plurality of batteries are stacked is made, or when one or two batteries are mounted in a device, the contact portion with the current collector terminal needs to be strengthened. , Such as space is wasted and the number of parts increases. In order not to increase the capacity even if the battery thickness exceeds 20 mm, it is necessary to reduce the battery area, that is, to reduce the battery width, but when such a battery thickness is 20 mm or more and the width is narrow, There is not much need for the battery shape to be flat, but rather the cylindrical shape is more suitable.
Hereinafter, the negative electrode, the positive electrode, and the nonaqueous electrolyte will be described.
1) Negative electrode The negative electrode includes a negative electrode current collector and a negative electrode active material-containing layer that is supported on one or both surfaces of the negative electrode current collector and includes a negative electrode active material, a conductive agent, and a binder.
An aluminum foil or an aluminum alloy foil can be used for the negative electrode current collector. The average crystal grain size of the aluminum foil and the aluminum alloy foil is desirably 50 μm or less. When the range of the average crystal grain size is 50 μm or less, the strength of the aluminum foil or aluminum alloy foil can be dramatically increased. This increase in the strength of the negative electrode current collector improves physical and chemical stability and makes it difficult for the negative electrode current collector to break. In particular, it is possible to prevent deterioration due to dissolution of the negative electrode current collector, which is remarkable in an overdischarge long-term cycle under a high temperature environment of 40 ° C. or higher, and it is possible to suppress an increase in electrode resistance. Furthermore, by suppressing an increase in electrode resistance, Joule heat is reduced, and heat generation of the electrode can be suppressed. Further, the increase in the strength of the negative electrode current collector makes it possible to increase the density of the negative electrode without interrupting the negative electrode current collector, thereby improving the capacity density. In addition, increasing the density of the negative electrode increases the thermal conductivity and improves the heat dissipation of the electrode. Furthermore, the rise in battery temperature can be suppressed by the synergistic effect of suppressing the heat generation of the battery and improving the heat dissipation of the electrode. A more preferable average crystal grain size is 3 μm or less. This further increases the above-described effect. The smaller the average crystal grain size, the higher the chemical and physical strength of the negative electrode current collector, but it is desirable that the microstructure be crystalline in order to obtain excellent conductivity. The lower limit of is desirably 0.01 μm.
Aluminum foil or aluminum alloy foil having an average crystal grain size range of 50 μm or less is affected by factors such as material composition, processing conditions, heating conditions, and cooling conditions in a complicated manner. It is prepared by organically combining various factors. In addition, you may use the high performance aluminum foil PACAL21 (brand name) made from Japanese foil as an aluminum foil of a negative electrode collector. Specifically, an aluminum foil with an average crystal grain size of 50 μm or less can be produced by annealing an aluminum foil with an average crystal grain size of 90 μm at 50 to 250 ° C. and then cooling to room temperature. On the other hand, an aluminum alloy foil having an average crystal grain size of 50 μm or less can be produced by annealing an aluminum alloy foil having an average crystal grain size of 90 μm at 50 to 250 ° C. and then cooling to room temperature. Alternatively, an aluminum alloy foil having an average crystal grain size of 50 μm or less can also be produced by annealing an alloy containing 0.8 to 2% by weight of Fe.
The average crystal grain size of aluminum and aluminum alloy is measured by the method described below. The structure of the current collector surface is observed with a metallographic microscope, the number n of crystal particles existing in a 1 mm × 1 mm visual field is measured, and the average crystal particle area S (μm 2 ) is calculated from the following equation (0).
S=(1×106)/n (0)
S = (1 × 10 6 ) / n (0)
Here, the value represented by (1 × 10 6 ) is a visual field area (μm 2 ) of 1 mm × 1 mm, and n is the number of crystal grains. The average crystal grain size d (μm) was calculated from the following formula (1) using the obtained average crystal grain area S. Such calculation of the average crystal grain size d was performed for five locations (five fields of view), and the average value was defined as the average crystal grain size. Note that the assumed error is about 5%.
d=2(S/π)1/2 (1)
d = 2 (S / π) 1/2 (1)
The thickness of the negative electrode current collector is preferably 20 μm or less in order to increase the capacity. A more preferable range is 12 μm or less. Further, the lower limit value of the thickness of the negative electrode current collector is desirably 3 μm.
The purity of aluminum used for the negative electrode current collector is preferably 99.99% or more for improving corrosion resistance and increasing strength. The aluminum alloy is preferably an alloy containing one or more elements selected from the group consisting of iron, magnesium, zinc, manganese and silicon in addition to aluminum. For example, an Al-Fe alloy, an Al-Mn alloy, and an Al-Mg alloy can obtain higher strength than aluminum. On the other hand, the content of transition metals such as nickel and chromium in aluminum and aluminum alloys is preferably 100 ppm or less (including 0 ppm). For example, an Al—Cu-based alloy increases strength but deteriorates corrosion resistance, and is not suitable as a current collector. The aluminum content in the aluminum alloy is desirably 95% by weight or more and 99.5% by weight or less. If it is out of this range, sufficient strength may not be obtained even if the average crystal grain size is 50 μm or less. A more preferable aluminum content is 98% by weight or more and 99.5% by weight or less.
The average particle size of the negative electrode active material is desirably 1 μm or less. Thereby, quick charge performance can further be improved. A more preferable average particle diameter is 0.3 μm or less. However, if the average particle size is small, the aggregation of primary particles tends to occur, or the nonaqueous electrolyte distribution may be biased toward the negative electrode, leading to depletion of the electrolyte at the positive electrode, so the lower limit is set to 0.001 μm. It is desirable to do.
As the negative electrode active material, a material that absorbs and releases lithium can be used, and examples thereof include carbonaceous materials, metal oxides, metal sulfides, metal nitrides, and alloys.
Examples of the carbonaceous material include a graphite material or a carbonaceous material (for example, graphite, coke, carbon fiber, spherical carbon, pyrolytic gas phase carbonaceous material, resin fired body, and the like).
さらに好ましい電位範囲は、0.4V(vs.Li/Li+)以上、2V(vs.Li/Li+)以下である。 The lithium occlusion potential of the negative electrode active material is preferably 0.4 V (vs. Li / Li + ) or more in terms of the open circuit potential with respect to the open circuit potential of lithium metal. Thereby, the progress of the alloying reaction between the aluminum component of the negative electrode current collector and lithium and the pulverization of the negative electrode current collector can be suppressed. Furthermore, the lithium occlusion potential is preferably in the range of 0.4 V (vs. Li / Li + ) or more and 3 V (vs. Li / Li + ) or less in terms of the open circuit potential of the lithium metal. . Thereby, a battery voltage can be improved. A more preferable potential range is 0.4 V (vs. Li / Li + ) or more and 2 V (vs. Li / Li + ) or less.
Examples of the metal oxide capable of occluding lithium in the range of 0.4 V (vs. Li / Li + ) to 3 V (vs. Li / Li + ) are titanium oxide such as TiO 2 and spinel. Lithium titanium oxide such as lithium titanate having a structure (for example, Li 4 + x Ti 5 O 12 (x is −1 ≦ x ≦ 3)) or lithium titanate having a ramsdellite structure (for example, Li 2 Ti 3 O 7 ), For example, a tungsten oxide such as WO 3, an amorphous tin oxide such as SnB 0.4 P 0.6 O 3.1 , a tin silicon oxide such as SnSiO 3 , a silicon oxide such as SiO, and the like can be given.
Examples of the metal sulfide capable of occluding lithium in the range of 0.4 V (vs. Li / Li + ) or more and 3 V (vs. Li / Li + ) or less include lithium sulfide such as TiS 2 , such as MoS. And molybdenum sulfide such as 2 , for example, iron sulfide such as FeS, FeS 2 , and Li x FeS 2 .
0.4V(vs.Li/Li+)以上、3V(vs.Li/Li+)以下の範囲でリチウムを吸蔵することが可能な金属窒化物としては、例えばLixCoyN(0<x<4,0<y<0.5)などのリチウムコバルト窒化物等が挙げられる。 As a metal nitride capable of occluding lithium in the range of 0.4 V (vs. Li / Li + ) or more and 3 V (vs. Li / Li + ) or less, for example, Li x Co y N (0 <x And lithium cobalt nitride such as <4,0 <y <0.5).
As the negative electrode active material, lithium titanate having a spinel structure is preferable. By using a spinel structure lithium titanate, a non-aqueous electrolyte battery having a high capacity and excellent input / output characteristics at a large current can be realized.
A carbon material can be used as a conductive agent for increasing electron conductivity and suppressing contact resistance with the current collector. Examples thereof include acetylene black, carbon black, coke, carbon fiber, and graphite.
Examples of the binder for binding the active material and the conductive agent include polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), polyvinylidene fluoride (PVdF), fluorine-based rubber, and styrene butadiene rubber.
Regarding the mixing ratio of the negative electrode active material, the conductive agent, and the binder, the negative electrode active material is 80% by weight to 95% by weight, the conductive agent is 3% by weight to 18% by weight, and the binder is 2% by weight or more. It is preferable to make it into the range of 7 weight% or less.
The density of the negative electrode is desirably 1.5 g / cm 3 or more and 5 g / cm 3 or less. Thereby, a high battery capacity can be obtained. A more preferable range is 2 g / cm 3 or more and 4 g / cm 3 or less.
The negative electrode is produced, for example, by suspending a negative electrode active material, a conductive agent, and a binder in a suitable solvent, applying the suspension to a current collector, drying, and pressing.

The obtained discharge capacity is shown in Table 1 below, assuming that the discharge capacity of Example 1 is 1.0.
As is clear from Table 1, when the total thickness of the separator in the battery thickness is 1, the battery thickness is 2.5 or more and 6 or less, and the thickness per separator layer is 10 μm or more and 30 μm. In Examples 1 to 5 below, it is well understood that there is no smoke and the safety is high. This is presumably because when the proportion of the separator increases, it becomes difficult to short-circuit the inside when the nail is stabbed. As shown in FIG. 8, in Comparative Example 1, a sudden voltage drop occurred immediately after the start of the nail penetration test, so it was estimated that the internal short circuit occurred, and then it was believed that heat generation and smoke generation occurred. It is. On the other hand, the battery voltages in Examples 1 and 2 are gradually decreasing. This gradual voltage drop is presumed to be discharged through the penetrating nail, which is clearly different from the sudden voltage drop when an internal short circuit occurs. Further, although the battery thickness of Example 1 in which the battery thickness with respect to the
In Comparative Example 2 in which the battery thickness was less than 2.5 with respect to the
(Comparative Example 3)
A nonaqueous electrolyte battery was assembled in the same manner as in Example 2 except that the thickness t 2 per separator layer was 5 μm.
From the results in Table 2, if the thickness t 2 per separator layer is less than 10 μm when the battery thickness t 1 is 2.5 or more and 6 or less, the thickness of the positive electrode and the negative electrode is also reduced accordingly. It was confirmed that a high battery capacity could not be obtained.
(Comparative Example 4)
A nonaqueous electrolyte battery was assembled in the same manner as in Example 1 except that the thickness t 2 per layer of the separator was set to 50 μm.
From the results in Table 3, when the thickness t 2 per separator layer exceeds 30 μm when the battery thickness t 1 is 2.5 or more and 6 or less, the facing area between the positive electrode and the negative electrode decreases. It was confirmed that the quick charge performance was inferior.
From the above results, when the total value of the separator thickness in the battery thickness is 1 , the battery thickness t 1 is 2.5 or more and 6 or less, and the thickness t 2 per separator layer is 10 μm or more. When the thickness is 30 μm or less, it can be seen that a nonaqueous electrolyte battery excellent in safety, battery capacity and quick charge performance can be realized.
In the above-described examples, a polyethylene porous film was used as the separator, but the same effect was obtained when a synthetic resin nonwoven fabric or a polypropylene porous film was used instead. From the viewpoint of price, a polyethylene porous film is preferable.
