Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to an organic electroluminescence element used for an illumination light source, a backlight, a flat panel display, and the like, and particularly relates to an organic electroluminescence element provided with an improved carrier transport layer.
However, for example, when an organic electroluminescence device is applied to illumination, it is necessary to use the current fluorescent lamp at a luminance of several thousand to 10,000 cd / m 2 , and the lifetime at that time is shorter than the above-mentioned lifetime. For example, it drops to about several thousand hours. In addition, when an organic electroluminescence element is applied to a display, the occurrence of image sticking, that is, luminance degradation of about 5% is considered to be a lifetime, but in this case, the lifetime is limited to about several thousand hours. .
Therefore, it is necessary to further study the extension of the lifetime of the organic electroluminescence element from the viewpoint of the device structure as well as the improvement of the material.
The present invention has been made in view of the above points, and an object of the present invention is to provide an organic electroluminescence device which can achieve a longer lifetime by improving a carrier transport layer.

In the present invention, the

The
Here, the main component constituting the carrier transport layer refers to a material having a content ratio in the carrier transport layer exceeding 25% by mass, and the main component constituting the organic
When the
When the
When the
Other components mixed in the
Further, the other component having the ability to lower the carrier transportability may be selected from those that mainly lower the electron transportability when the
Whether the carrier transport property of the organic layer is inhibited by the addition of the material can be determined by direct or indirect evaluation of the carrier transport property of the organic layer. Examples of the direct evaluation method include a method for evaluating the mobility value itself such as mobility evaluation by a time-of-flight method, mobility evaluation by a dark injection method, mobility evaluation by a spectral impedance method, and the like. As an example of the indirect evaluation method, for example, the dependency of the driving voltage of the organic electroluminescence element on the thickness of the
The other components mixed in the
The amount of other components added to the
Here, the ratio of the components when the other components are composed of two different components is preferably 1: 1 to 1:20. More preferably, it is 1: 1 to 1:10. If the amount of one component is too large, the effect of adding the other component may be inferior, which is not preferable.
Similarly to the above, the mixed concentration of other components may be constant in the thickness direction of the
Further, when the
By providing the
In particular, when the
However, if the
In order to cope with such a problem, in the present invention, by mixing other components as described above in the
In the present invention, the entire carrier transport layer may be formed of the
In the present invention, by providing the

Further, the material constituting the

The ionization potential of each material is a value measured by “photoelectron spectrometer AC-3” manufactured by Riken Keiki. The energy gap of each material is a value estimated from the long wavelength end of the absorption by measuring the UV absorption spectrum of the thin film of each material deposited to about 10 nm. The electron affinity is a value estimated by subtracting an energy gap from the ionization potential.

(Hall transportability evaluation)
A glass substrate having a thickness of 0.7 mm was prepared, in which ITO having a thickness of 110 nm was formed as an anode in the pattern of FIG. The sheet resistance of ITO forming the anode is about 12Ω / □. This was subjected to ultrasonic cleaning for 10 minutes each with detergent, ion-exchanged water, and acetone, then steam-washed with IPA (isopropyl alcohol), dried, and further treated with UV / O 3 . Next, this substrate was immersed in an IPA solution of iodine (iodine concentration 50 mass%) for 3 minutes, then dried so as not to leave droplets on the surface, and baked at 120 ° C. for 2 minutes under vacuum.
Thereafter, an NPD film having a thickness of 50 nm was formed, and then a layer to be evaluated was formed to a thickness of 20 nm. Further, an NPD film having a thickness of 30 nm and an Au film having a thickness of 80 nm were formed. In this device, since electron injection from Au to NPD can be ignored, it can be approximated that the current during driving is only holes.
Prepare two types of layers to be evaluated, the same as the mixed layer in each example, and the mixed layer excluding other components, each of which is necessary to pass a current of 1 mA / cm 2. The voltage was measured. Then, the effect of changing the mobility by adding the other component was estimated by subtracting the value without the other component from the value with the other component. In addition, it can be considered that the fall of hole transportability is so large that this value is large.
(Evaluation of electron transport properties)
Using the same ITO substrate as in the case of the hole-only device except that no iodine treatment was performed, a layer in which BCP and Cs were mixed at a molar ratio of 1: 1 was formed to a thickness of 5 nm, and Alq was formed to a thickness of 20 nm. Next, a layer to be evaluated was formed to a thickness of 20 nm, and further Alq was deposited to 20 nm, LiF was deposited to 0.5 nm, and Al was deposited to a thickness of 80 nm to produce an electron-only device for evaluating electron transport properties. In this device, since hole injection from the ITO to the Alq layer through the BCP: Cs layer can be ignored, it can be approximated that the current during driving is only electrons.
As the layer to be evaluated, two types are prepared, the same as the mixed layer in each example, and the mixed layer excluding other components, and the voltage required to pass a current of 1 mA / cm 2 for each. Was measured. Then, the effect of changing the mobility by adding the other component was estimated by subtracting the value without the other component from the value with the other component. In addition, it can be considered that the fall of electron transport property is so large that this value is large.
(Life evaluation)
As described above, a constant current of 20 mA / cm 2 was applied to the organic electroluminescence elements obtained in Examples 1 to 6 and Comparative Examples 1 to 5, and the organic electroluminescence elements obtained in Example 7 and Comparative Example 6 were applied to the organic electroluminescence elements. A constant current of 1 mA / cm 2 was applied, and the time required for the luminance to fall to 80% was measured.
The results are shown in Table 1.
As seen in Table 1, it can be seen that the carrier transportability of the mixed layer containing other components in each Example is substantially lower than that in the state where no other components are added. In particular, it can be confirmed that in Examples 1 to 6, the hole transportability is mainly lowered, and in Example 7, the electron transportability is mainly lowered.
And the organic electroluminescent element of each Example which has a mixed layer of this invention had a long time required for a brightness | luminance to fall to 80%.
On the other hand, the devices of Comparative Examples 1, 2 and 6 having no mixed layer have a short lifetime, and the devices of Comparative Examples 3 and 4 in which only one other component is mixed improve the lifetime, but have other components. The lifetime was still short as compared with the device of Example 2 and Example 1 in which two were mixed. In addition, although the element of Comparative Example 5 to which two kinds of materials whose ionization potential and electron affinity differed by only 0.1 eV or less was added had a long life, Example 2 to which two kinds of materials different by 0.1 eV or more were added. The life of the device was inferior.
