Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to an optical disc apparatus, and more particularly to a recordable optical disc apparatus that records and reproduces data with a minute light spot and an optical disc medium used in the recordable optical disc apparatus.
微小な光スポットによりデータの記録再生を行う光ディスク分野において、予めエンボス状のデータピット列が形成された再生専用のROM(Read Only Memory)媒体に続いて、データの記録が出来る光ディスクであるCD−R(Compact Disc−Recordable)やDVD−R(Digital Versatile Disc−Recordable)が広く普及している。また、記録されたデータを書き換えることも可能なCD−RW(CD−ReWritable)やDVD−RW(DVD−ReWritable)と呼ばれる光ディスク媒体もある。 In the field of optical discs in which data is recorded / reproduced by a minute light spot, a CD-, which is an optical disc capable of recording data, following a read-only ROM (Read Only Memory) medium in which embossed data pit rows are formed in advance. R (Compact Disc-Recordable) and DVD-R (Digital Versatile Disc-Recordable) are widely used. There is also an optical disk medium called CD-RW (CD-ReWriteable) or DVD-RW (DVD-ReWriteable) that can rewrite recorded data. Here, optical disc media capable of recording data are collectively referred to as recordable optical disc media.
In the recording type optical disc medium, a spiral groove track for tracking is formed on an optical disc substrate, and a multilayer recording layer made of an organic material or the like is formed thereon. Data is recorded by condensing a high-power laser beam on the recording layer and partially altering it to form recording pits. After recording, servo signals having substantially the same characteristics can be obtained with the same data format as that of the ROM medium on which the embossed data pit train is formed. Therefore, there is an advantage that reproduction can be easily performed even with a read-only drive device. .
In the DVD-R, user data is converted into a format in which additional information such as a data ID such as an address and an error correction code is added, and is recorded on an optical disk medium as a series of continuous data. This continuously recorded format is the same as the DVD-ROM format.
However, if the format is exactly the same as that of a DVD-ROM, recording can be performed only once. Therefore, a recording system called multi-session or multi-border that can add data several times is set. In this case, special data called a border area in which data position information and the like are recorded after user data is recorded, and then user data is further recorded. The playback device plays back user data using this data position information.
As shown in FIG. 3, the recordable optical disk medium 6 has a
The
The lead-out area is an area indicating the end of the disc. When the lead-out area is detected, the end of the optical disk medium is recognized.
The
These data structures can be expressed in one dimension as shown in FIG. FIG. 4 shows the arrangement of the areas on the disk surface along the radial direction, with the left side being the inner circumferential direction of the disk and the right side being the outer circumferential direction. The
The user data lead-in
The recording
The
FIG. 6 shows an outline of an operation for recording user data on an optical disk medium. When recording user data, first, a recording preparation process (S11) is performed. In the recording preparation process, the
When the recording conditions are set, a user data recording process for sequentially recording desired user data in the
When the user data has been recorded, the recording operation is completed by a recording end process (S13). The recording end process is sometimes called finalization, and is a process necessary to make it possible to reproduce user data even on a reproduction-only optical disk device. In the read-only optical disk apparatus, only the area where the recording pits are continuously formed can be accessed stably, and therefore, this is a process of forming continuous recording pits having a length that can be stably accessed before and after the user data.
After performing the recording end process, as shown in FIG. 5, a portion where the recording pit is formed and a portion where the recording pit is not formed are mixed. The
When the amount of data recorded in the
In the user data lead-in
Since the read-only optical disk apparatus generally detects a track error signal from a recorded pit, it cannot access an unrecorded area. Therefore, the user data lead-in area 28a and the recorded
The system area is not clearly recognized by the user who records or reads data, but is an indispensable area for the optical disc apparatus to perform recording and reproduction. Therefore, the recordable capacity of the optical disk medium that can be recognized by the user is the capacity of the data area. For an optical disk medium that is expected by the user to have as much capacity as possible, it is desirable that this system area be as small as possible. Become.
However, as described above, in order to secure a large number of additional recordings and to ensure stability in the read-only optical disk device, any area in the system area cannot be reduced unnecessarily.

In the optical disc information recording method of the present invention, it is necessary to record the user data in the data area (23) when the number of times of information recording recorded in the recording control information area (27) reaches a preset number. In a recordable optical disk medium 6 such as a DVD-R or DVD-RW, a spiral groove track for tracking is formed on an optical disk substrate. A multilayer recording layer made of an organic material or the like is formed thereon. High-power laser light is condensed on this recording layer and partially altered to form recording pits, and data is recorded. After recording, the data format is the same as that of an embossed optical disk ROM medium (DVD-ROM or the like). In addition, since a servo signal having substantially the same characteristics as that of the optical disk ROM medium can be obtained, there is an advantage that it can be easily reproduced by a reproduction-only drive device.
As shown in FIG. 3, the recordable optical disk medium 6 includes a

These data structures can be expressed in one dimension as shown in FIG. FIG. 4 shows the arrangement of the areas on the disk surface along the radial direction, with the left side being the inner circumferential direction of the disk and the right side being the outer circumferential direction.

(First embodiment)
The first embodiment will be described with reference to FIGS. In the first embodiment, a part of the
There is not much system control information recorded in the user data lead-in
FIG. 7 is a diagram showing a state after the user data lead-in
In FIG. 7A, user data is recorded in the
FIG. 7B shows a case where a relatively large amount of data is recorded, and the user data is recorded and enlarged in the
With reference to FIG. 8, the operation of using a part of the recording
When the optical disk medium is loaded into the optical disk device, the latest information is read from the recording
Next, in order to optimize the recording conditions in the
User data is additionally recorded in the
It is determined whether or not the additional recording amount counted by the counter has reached a certain value (step S36). If it is greater than or equal to a certain value (step S36-YES), the latest control information is additionally recorded in the recording
Note that the information in the recording
The process is repeated from step S34 until there is no user data to be recorded (end of recording) (step S39). In this way, user data is recorded.
When the user data recording is completed, a recording end processing command is received, the recording end processing is performed, and control information such as the recording position of the user data required for reproduction on the reproduction-only optical disc apparatus is stored in the user data lead-in area. 28 (step S41).
Next, it is determined whether or not the
When an unrecorded area remains in the recording
Note that when an optical disk medium eject command is received from the host device at a stage before the recording end process, the disk is ejected without performing the recording end process. Therefore, additional recording can be performed by loading the optical disk medium into the apparatus again. Further, if a portion for recording dummy data as a guard area of 50 to 100 [mu] m is provided adjacent to the outer periphery of the recorded
As described above, the
In the recording end process, a recording pit is formed by dummy data not only in the user data lead-in
Furthermore, before the recording end process, if the recording
Further, even when the total amount of the recording
In addition, the recording end process mentioned here may be a finalize process that prohibits further recording in the case of the specification such as DVD-R, and additional writing is possible, but for the time being in a read-only optical disc device. There is also a border closing process in a multi-border structure that enables reproduction.
(Second Embodiment)
A second embodiment will be described with reference to FIGS. 9 and 10. In the second embodiment, the recording
With reference to FIG. 9, the arrangement of the regions will be described. User data is recorded in the
In the recording end process, the
The conventional CD-R and DVD-R also have a function called multi-session or multi-border, and some uses are used in which user data is separated by a border that records system control information. Can be easily combined. This has the advantage that the recording control information area can be expanded and used as long as a recordable area remains in the data area.
Of course, a new border zone can be formed in the conventional multi-border configuration regardless of the remaining amount of the recording control information area. In the multi-border configuration according to the prior art, in order to enable playback on the playback-only optical disc apparatus, a recording end process for closing the previous border is performed. In this case, dummy information necessary as a guard area is recorded in the remaining amount of the recording control information area or the extended recording control information area used so far, and in the subsequent user data recording, the newly set border zone By using the extended recording control information area, the effects of the present invention can be easily obtained.
The recording operation arranged in this way will be described with reference to FIG. When the optical disk medium is loaded into the optical disk device, the latest information is read from the recording
Next, in order to optimize the recording conditions in the
User data is additionally recorded in the
It is determined whether or not the additional recording amount counted by the counter has reached a certain value (step S57). If the value is equal to or greater than a certain value (step S57-YES), the latest control information is additionally recorded in the recording
Note that the information in the recording
Since the record
The process is repeated from step S55 until there is no user data to be recorded (end of recording) (step S65). In this way, user data is recorded.
When the user data recording is completed, a recording end processing command is received, the recording end processing is performed, and control information such as the recording position of the user data required for reproduction on the reproduction-only optical disc apparatus is stored in the user data lead-in area. 28. If there is a border area, recording is performed in an unrecorded area of the border area, and the process ends (step S68). In the state where the border area is formed, the reproduction optical disk apparatus may be able to reproduce the user data on the inner circumference side. In this case, the user data lead-in
In this way, recording that effectively utilizes the system area becomes possible. In addition, the inventions described in the first and second embodiments can be applied independently or can be used in combination.
(Third embodiment)
A third embodiment will be described with reference to FIGS. 11 and 12. In the third embodiment, a
The arrangement of the areas will be described with reference to FIG. User data is recorded in the
In the recording end process, the
The operation when the test recording area is provided in this border will be described with reference to FIG. When the optical disk medium is loaded into the optical disk device, the latest information is read from the recording
Next, in order to optimize the recording conditions in the
User data is additionally recorded in the
It is determined whether or not the additional recording amount counted by the counter has reached a certain value (step S76). If the value is equal to or greater than the predetermined value (step S76-YES), the latest control information is additionally recorded in the recording
Note that the information in the recording
Since the record
The process is repeated from step S74 until there is no user data to be recorded (end of recording) (step S85). In this way, user data is recorded.
When the user data recording is completed, a recording end processing command is received, the recording end processing is performed, and control information such as the recording position of the user data required for reproduction on the reproduction-only optical disc apparatus is stored in the user data lead-in area. 28. If there is a border area, recording is performed in an unrecorded area of the border area, and the process ends (step S87).
In this way, recording that effectively utilizes the system area becomes possible. Furthermore, user data can be recorded based on more optimal recording conditions.
Further, as an optical disk medium to which the method described in the embodiments is applied, an unrecorded optical disk medium in which nothing is recorded can be used.
As described above, the case where the next generation blue semiconductor laser light source is used as a recording type optical disk medium will be described with respect to the effect of expanding the user data recording capacity by reducing the
It has been reported that an optical disk medium having the same size as a DVD has a track pitch of 0.4 μm and a data bit density of 0.153 μm. If the radius is 24.1 mm to 58.0 mm, the user data capacity of about 15 Gbytes can be realized with an encoding efficiency of 85%. If the width of the recording pits to be formed in the recording end process on the inner circumference side is about 100 μm, a capacity of 26 Mbytes is consumed if this width is allocated to the user data lead-in area. Since the system control information actually required for reproduction is 1 Mbyte or less, there is no problem in the information amount even if it is reduced to about 10 μm. If 200 μm is secured as the inner recording control information area, a capacity of 52 Mbytes can be obtained, and even if the unit of control information update is 64 kbytes, it can be updated 800 times or more. In the recording end process, a dummy recording pit of 100 μm may be formed by combining 10 μm of the user data lead-in area and 90 μm of one part of the recording control information area.
(Fourth embodiment)
On the other hand, if system information can be transmitted from an optical disk medium to a recordable optical disk apparatus, an optimum system information processing method can be set for each optical disk medium. In the fourth embodiment, an optical disk medium will be described.
As shown in FIG. 13B, the optical disk medium of the fourth embodiment is provided with a pre-pit area on the innermost periphery side of the system area and records a part of the system information. The
Such pre-pits can be set anywhere in the system area, but the conditions for forming recordable groove-like tracks on the substrate and the conditions for forming pre-pits are different, so they should be formed as continuous tracks. Can be difficult. In that case, as shown in FIG. 13A, by disposing the
(Fifth embodiment)
A fifth embodiment will be described with reference to FIGS. 14 to 16. In the fifth embodiment, the setting timing of the extended recording control information area and the capacity of the extended recording control information area will be mainly described.
FIG. 14 shows a part of the
Three areas of the scheduled
When the user data is recorded in the recording scheduled
When the area for recording the recording control information is insufficient, the extended recording
The operation of the optical disk recording apparatus for recording user data while setting the extended recording
In order to record user data, a scheduled
Based on the address set in the scheduled
It is determined whether the recorded user data is the last user data recorded on the optical disk medium 6. If there is a possibility of recording user data (step S96-NO), the recording control information is added to the recording
The area of the new extended
When the extended recording
As described above, when the area for recording the recording control information is insufficient, or when it is necessary to record the recording control information in an area other than the
Although the description has been made mainly assuming an additional recording type optical disk medium, the present invention can also be applied to a rewritable type optical disk medium. In addition, there are cases where the type of information for recording control is further subdivided and recorded separately in another area between the recording control information area and the test recording area, but this case is also applicable.
