Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a light guide member, a surface light source device, and a display device using the same. More specifically, for example, a light guide member that is used as a light source for advertising lights, illumination, and liquid crystal backlights, and can uniformly diffuse and guide light from the light emitting element upward, and the light guide member And a display device using the surface light source device, for example, a display device such as a liquid crystal display device.
In recent years, display devices using a surface light source device (backlight) for irradiating light from the back surface or side surface of a panel, such as a liquid crystal display, have been widely used. Conventionally, a backlight light source for such a liquid crystal display has been mainly of a so-called edge light type in which a cold cathode tube is disposed on the end face of a casing as a light source for thinning and low power consumption.
As such an edge light type backlight light source, the one having the structure shown in FIG. 16 is used.
That is, in the edge light type
In addition, on the lower surface of the
The liquid
In the edge light type
The light incident on the
As a result, the light is uniformly diffused by the
However, in recent years, demand for larger liquid crystal displays has increased, and such an edge-light type
For this reason, adoption of direct light is being studied for large liquid crystal displays.
However, when such a cold-cathode tube is used as a direct light, the cold-cathode tube is relatively large, so the thickness of the liquid crystal display is increased, and the cold-cathode tube has color reproducibility and response. There is a problem that the image quality is not good and an afterimage phenomenon occurs.
In recent years, light emitting elements have remarkably improved luminous efficiency, and their application to lighting has been advanced. In particular, when a light emitting diode (hereinafter referred to as “LED”) is used as a backlight light source (surface light source) for a liquid crystal display, good color reproducibility and high-speed response can be realized, and high-quality image quality is achieved. Is expected to achieve.
For this reason, a direct type backlight light source in which a plurality of LEDs are arranged at regular intervals below a liquid crystal panel has been proposed.
As this direct type backlight light source, the structure shown in FIG. 17 has been proposed.
That is, in the direct type
A
Note that the
In the direct-type
The light incident on the
In addition, the light emitted from the
In general, since the luminance corresponding to the portion directly above the
However, in the conventional direct
In particular, recently, color mixing has been performed using a multi-color (RGB) LED lamp composed of LEDs of three primary colors of red, green, and blue instead of a single color LED. This is not enough, and color irregularities will be visible.
For this reason, in order to reduce luminance unevenness and color unevenness, as described above, the diffusion degree of the portion immediately above the
Further, in Patent Document 1 (Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2001-42782) and the like, a so-called “lighting curtain” such as a gray color printing layer having a semi-translucent light is provided immediately above the LED lamp, and the luminance directly above it. It has been done to lower.
However, with these means, the light utilization efficiency is inevitably lowered.
Further, if the distance between the
For this reason, in Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 10-82915, a surface
That is, the surface
In addition, a
As a result, as shown in FIG. 18, the light B1 emitted from the
Thereby, it is uniformly diffused by a diffusion sheet (not shown) provided on the upper surface of the
However, in the surface
As a result, the amount of light emitted from the
In view of such a current situation, the present invention is a light guide member that is laminated on the upper surface of a light emitting element mounting substrate on which a light emitting element such as an LED is mounted, and lowers the luminance of the portion located immediately above the light emitting element. Thus, the luminance distribution on the light exit surface of the light guide member can be made uniform, the luminance unevenness and the color unevenness can be reduced, the light use efficiency is high, the luminance is high, and this Another object of the present invention is to provide a light guide member that is thin and can be reduced in size as a surface light source device using the light guide member.
The present invention also provides a surface light source device capable of reducing the luminance unevenness and the color unevenness, having high light use efficiency, high brightness, thin and small in size, and the surface light source device. Another object is to provide a display device using the above.

By having the part where the part is not provided, the intensity of the upward diffusion on the lower surface of the light guide member in the vicinity of the periphery of the light emitting element of the light guide member is such that the light guide member having the light reflecting part on the outer peripheral side part Is configured to be smaller than the intensity of the upward diffusion on the lower surface of the light source, the brightness of the portion located immediately above the light emitting element is reduced, and the brightness distribution on the light exit surface of the light guide member is made uniform. Brightness unevenness and color unevenness can be reduced, light utilization efficiency is high, and brightness is high.
Moreover, when this light guide member is used as a surface light source device, the luminance distribution can be made uniform, the luminance unevenness and the color unevenness can be reduced, the light use efficiency is high, and the luminance is high. Moreover, it can be thin and downsized.
Furthermore, according to the surface light source device using such a light guide member, since the luminance immediately above the light emitting element is low, the luminance is uniform over the entire surface light source device, high luminance, and no color unevenness occurs. The chromaticity is uniform.
Therefore, if such a surface light source device is used as a display device, particularly as a backlight of a liquid crystal display, the thin light source display device can be obtained.
Hereinafter, embodiments (examples) of the present invention will be described in more detail with reference to the drawings.
FIG. 1 is a diagram illustrating an overall configuration of an example of a liquid crystal display device to which the exemplary embodiment is applied. A liquid crystal display device to which the present embodiment is applied is a direct-type surface light source device (backlight) 50, a backlight frame (housing) 51 that houses a light emitting portion, and light emission that is a solid light emitting element as a light source. An LED substrate (mounting substrate) 52 is provided as a substrate on which a plurality of diodes (LEDs) 53 are arranged. The
The difference from the conventional direct type backlight device shown in FIG. 25 is that the light guide member is interposed in the space between the light emitting diode and the diffusion member (plate), and the thickness of the backlight does not increase. The distance between the light emitting diode and the diffusing member (plate) can be reduced. As a laminated body of optical compensation sheets on the light guide member, a diffusion member (plate, sheet) 55 that scatters and diffuses light in order to make the entire surface uniform brightness, and a light condensing effect forward is provided. And

As shown in FIG. 3, the surface

Although not shown, a wiring pattern such as copper is formed on the light-emitting
The
That is, in this embodiment, as shown in FIGS. 2 and 3, the
That is, as shown in FIG. 18, in the conventional surface

As a result, as shown by the alternate long and short dash line in the graph of FIG. 4, in the conventional surface
On the other hand, according to the surface

As a result, as shown by the dotted line in the graph of FIG. 4, the luminance in the vicinity immediately above the

Further, as shown in FIG. 3, the distance d <b> 1 from the center of the

Further, in this case, although not shown, as the unit light emitting element, as described above, for example, R, G, B, one unit each in addition to one unit, for example, R1, G2, B1 The combination is not particularly limited, such as one unit, R2 units, G2 units, and B1 units.
Further, as described above, the unit light emitting element is not limited to the three colors of blue, green, and red. For example, so-called intermediate color LED chips such as yellow, orange, and cyan are provided on the same substrate. 4 colors and 5 colors.

In this case, in the case of a metal foil such as an aluminum foil, it may be attached with a transparent adhesive. In the case of a metal thin film such as aluminum, gold, silver, or platinum, it may be formed by a method such as vapor deposition, sputtering, or electroless plating. Furthermore, as the white ink, for example, a titanium dioxide-containing acrylic resin can be used, and this may be applied by a method such as a dispenser, spray coating, powder coating, roll coater, curtain flow coater, or brush coating.
Among these, the application of white ink is preferable because it is easy and easy to use.
In this case, the thickness of the white ink is desirably 5 μm to 100 μm in consideration of the light reflection effect.

And the dot pattern for light scattering is formed so that the dot density of the dot-shaped light reflecting portion becomes lower as it approaches the light emitting element.

The preferred embodiments of the present invention have been described above. However, the present invention is not limited thereto. For example, the light guide member and the surface light source device of the present invention include a plurality of light emitting elements having different emission colors. Various modifications can be made without departing from the object of the present invention, such as mounting a white light emitting element that is useful for mounting but does not require color mixing.
