Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to an optical fiber connection portion such as an optical connector or an optical connection adapter having a wavelength selection function in which a fiber grating is formed on an optical fiber in a ferrule.
The fiber grating is one in which a diffraction grating is formed in the core by causing a periodic refractive index change in the core of the optical fiber by light irradiation. This fiber grating is used as an optical filter or an optical sensor because it can reflect only light of an arbitrary wavelength by variously changing the periodic length of the diffraction grating.
Fiber gratings are also used in optical line monitoring systems such as optical cables. This optical line monitoring system transmits monitoring light of a wavelength different from that of signal light (for example, light of

FIG. 5 shows an example of this optical connector device. In FIG. 5, 11 is an optical terminator (ONU: Optical Network Unit) connected to a terminal device such as a personal computer (not shown), 12 is a lead-in optical line such as an in-home optical cable, and 13 is a light connected to the
In the
However, in recent years, in order to cope with diversifying service forms, use of a field-mounted optical connector with a wavelength selection function or an optical connection adapter with a wavelength selection function has been studied. (For example, see Patent Document 1)

FIG. 7 shows an example of the
In the
In the above-described field-mounted
For example, even a single fiber grating having an isolation of 40 dB or more may drop to about 30 dB when the fiber grating is incorporated in the optical connector shown in FIG. 6 or the optical connection adapter shown in FIG. It has been confirmed.
FIG. 8 shows the wavelength transmission characteristic, which shows that isolation of a wavelength band of 1650 ± 7.5 nm is only about 30 dB.
In the case where a fiber grating is formed only at one end of the optical fiber as in the optical connector with a pigtail shown in FIG. 5, an optical line in which the first connection portion and the next connection portion sandwiching the fiber grating are relatively long. Therefore, even if clad mode light is generated at the first connection portion, the clad mode light is attenuated before reaching the next connection portion, and does not enter the core again. There is nothing.
The present invention has been made in view of the above points. In the first invention, an optical fiber in which a fiber grating is written is disposed inside a ferrule, and the optical fiber and other optical fibers are arranged near both ends of the fiber grating. In the optical fiber connecting portion connected through the mechanical connecting portion, the outer diameter of the optical fiber disposed inside the ferrule is 150 μmφ or more.
According to a second aspect of the present invention, an optical fiber in which a fiber grating is written is disposed inside a ferrule, and the optical fiber and another optical fiber are connected via mechanical connection portions in the vicinity of both ends of the fiber grating. In the optical fiber connecting portion, the light absorbing portion is arranged on the outer periphery of the optical fiber in which the fiber grating is written.
In the present application, the vicinity of both ends of the fiber grating means a length within 30 mm from the fiber grating.
In the first invention of the present application, the outer diameter of the optical fiber connected in the vicinity of the fiber grating is configured to be 150 μmφ or more, so that the cladding mode light is diffused more widely in the cladding, and the core at the next connecting portion is Recombination can be reduced, which can improve isolation.
According to the second invention of the present application, the clad mode light can be absorbed and the isolation can be improved by arranging the light absorbing portion on the outer periphery of the optical fiber connected in the vicinity of the fire grating.
The present invention can employ the following various embodiments.
The ferrule is disposed in a connection adapter having optical connector storage portions at both ends.
A ferrule is disposed in the optical connector.
The present invention will be described below with reference to illustrated embodiments. In FIG. 1,
The

In this embodiment, a fiber grating having a characteristic of blocking the
As can be seen from FIG. 3, in the case of 125 μmφ, which is a standard optical fiber outer diameter, the isolation is greatly reduced as compared with FIG. On the other hand, it can be seen that as the outer diameter of the optical fiber increases, the isolation degradation width decreases. In the case of an optical fiber having an outer diameter of 200 μmφ, a result comparable to the data before conversion into an adapter is obtained. If isolation of 40 dB or more can be ensured, there will be no problem in actual use. Therefore, the outer diameter of the
In the above embodiment, the isolation is improved by setting the outer diameter of the
Fig. 4 shows a standard optical fiber with an outer diameter of 125 µmφ with a fiber grating formed of a material with high near-infrared absorbance (a thermosetting resin containing a lot of carbon black: for example, Ablestik's Stycast 2057). The characteristics when placed in a ferrule using the formed adhesive and the characteristics when assembled with EPO-TEK 353ND of Epoxy Technology, which is widely used as an adhesive for single-core optical connectors Is shown. As is apparent from FIG. 4, this example is an improvement of about 10 dB compared to the conventional example.
