テニス競技の場合，砂等が舞い上がらないハードコートは別として，他のコートはそれなりに砂等が舞い上がり競技中に靴の中に浸入する。これを解決する為に足首にフィットし，靴のかかとから足先迄を覆うカバーを提供するものである。型はワッパ状の一体ものでも良いが，出来れば少なくとも一箇所で開く型とし，靴の周りに巻付けて固定すれば良い。靴とカバーの固定方法にはこだわるものではないが，所謂，マジックテープは縫い付け，接着等が出来，準備し易いし，使い易い。
その他，紐，引っ掛け等，様々な方法が使えるが，それぞれを組合せても機能的で美観に優れた物が出来る。更にふくらはぎ（足首）とカバーの固定も同様な方法が採れるが，靴下の折り返しを利用しても合理的である。
固定する数はカバーがずれる事がなく，靴とカバーの間から砂等が入り難い様にフィットすれば数にこだわる必要は無い。
カバーの材質は特にこだわるものではなく，雨天用は防水機能のあるものがよいが，通常は通気性の良いものが好ましい。又，色も好みによって色々の組合せが選べる。更にカバーには部分的にでも伸縮機能があれば，色々な，面で自由度があって，着用感が良い。In tennis competitions, apart from hard courts where sand etc. does not rise up, other courts rise up as they are and enter the shoes during the competition.
