このようなガイド板15の構成では、ガイド板15が搬送経路に沿うようにしないでしかも隙間を有するので、各搬送経路8、10、12を通過するシート後端の跳ね返り音を完全になくすことはできず、かつ隙間からの漏洩音も問題となることがあった。
本発明の目的は、上述した実情を考慮して、無駄に搬送経路を開放することなしに記録紙(シート)から発せられる騒音を効率的に抑えることができ、設定変更などの手間を掛けることなく、かつ安価に達成できるシート搬送装置およびこれを備える画像形成装置を提供することにある。

図2は、図1に示すシート搬送装置を備えたプリンタを示し、異なる給紙方法を明示したプリンタを示す概略図である。この図2のように増設給紙トレイ9や、手差しトレイ11からの搬送経路も存在するため、図7に示すような「隙間」を有する騒音低減用のガイド板15では搬送方向が大きく変わる本体給紙トレイ7からの通紙に対して騒音を大きく抑えることは困難である。殊に、給紙トレイ7からの記録紙Sは、その搬送方向が大きく変わるので騒音の発生は抑えることができない。
図3は、図1、図2に示す本実施形態のシート搬送装置の部分拡大図であって、不要な搬送経路を遮断する遮断手段を示す概略拡大図である。図7の従来装置で説明したような複数の搬送経路8、10、12が合流する空間では、前述のように従来では全ての給紙トレイから通紙できるように、幾らかの「隙間」を確保していることが多いのであるが、この隙間の確保から生じる、シート後端の跳ね返り音および隙間からの漏洩音の問題を解消するために、本実施形態では、図3に示すように、搬送経路8、10、12のうち、機器構成によって使用しない搬送経路を完全に塞ぎ、しかも開いている搬送経路に沿うようにガイド板が位置するように構成する。
すなわち、機器構成によって使用しない搬送経路、例えば、図3において搬送経路8、10、12を2つの可動式のガイド板(部品)15A、15Bによって完全に塞いでしまうことで、より騒音抑制効果をあげることができる。
ここで、搬送経路8を通して記録紙Sを搬送するとき、可動式のガイド部品15AをA2位置に、可動式のガイド部品15BをB2位置に移動することにより、搬送経路10、12を閉塞しガイド板15Aを搬送経路8に沿わせる。また、搬送経路10を通して記録紙Sを搬送するとき、可動式のガイド部品15AをA1位置に、可動式のガイド部品15BをB2位置に移動することにより、搬送経路8、12を閉塞し、ガイド部品15A、15Bを搬送経路10に沿わせる。
さらに、搬送経路12を通して記録紙Sを搬送するとき、可動式のガイド部品15AをA1位置に、可動式のガイド部品15BをB1位置に移動することにより、搬送経路8、10を閉塞しガイド部品15Bを搬送経路12に沿わせる。このように構成することによって、各場合に、ガイド板(部品)15A、15Bが不要な搬送経路の壁に密着するので通紙の対象となる搬送経路のみを開き、ガイド板は搬送経路の沿った形状になるので、シート後端の跳ね返り音および隙間からの漏洩音の問題を解消することができる。

図4において、増設給紙トレイの無い状態では、ガイド板15が下からの搬送経路10、12を完全に遮断し、紙反転部の外側を万遍なくガイドする。この状態からオプションである増設給紙トレイを設置する場合には、図5に示すように位置決め用のピン14が本体側に入ってくることを利用してガイド板15を搬送経路の壁に沿って移動させ、増設給紙トレイからの搬送経路を開放するようにしている。トレイ増設時、位置決め用のピン14が本体側に入って来た際、リンク機構16ないしローラ18を介してこのガイド板15が移動し、下からの搬送経路を開放する。
これにより、例えば増設給紙トレイが無く給紙トレイのみにて使用するユーザに対し、最も通紙音(紙後端の衝突音)が大きくなる紙反転部を外側に万遍なくガイドすることが可能となり、製品トータルの静音性(オプションの有無に関わらず)が向上することとなる。
図6は本発明による画像形成装置の実施の形態を示す概略図である。図中9が増設給紙トレイであり、11が手差しトレイ、17が排紙装置(フィニッシャ)である。ここでは排紙装置17にも記録紙の方向を選択するガイド板を設けてもよい。
本発明は、プリンタ等の画像形成装置に関連して説明したが、これに限定されず、また、シート状の物体を搬送する機能を有する、全ての産業機器に利用可能である。
