Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a technique for favorably forming an image using toner on a recording material.
With the rapid spread of digital still cameras (hereinafter referred to as “digital cameras”) and the like, there is an increasing demand to easily print out images taken with digital cameras at convenience stores and photo shops in towns. Therefore, there is a need for an electrophotographic image forming apparatus that can satisfy the above-described requirements in addition to the normal copy function and print function.
Even when an image taken with a digital camera is printed out as a photograph (hereinafter referred to as a “digital camera photograph”), like a silver salt photograph, the one having a high gloss surface is preferred. However, as an application of a general image forming apparatus, it is overwhelmingly a case where a monochrome document mainly composed of characters is handled, so that the image forming apparatus outputs a low gloss image so that characters can be easily read by human eyes. It has become. Therefore, a technique for forming two types of low-gloss and high-gloss images by properly using the two fixing devices as needed so that even such an image forming apparatus can output a high-gloss image. Has been devised (see, for example,
In addition, as for the photograph, a borderless photograph having no margin is generally preferred. However, when an electrophotographic image forming apparatus forms an image on the entire surface of a sheet, a toner image slightly larger than the sheet size is exposed in consideration of the skew of the sheet and positional deviation. It is necessary to create an image on the body. However, when a toner image larger than the paper size is formed in this way, the toner image protrudes from the edge of the paper when the toner image is transferred from the photosensitive member to the paper, and the protruding toner is transferred to the intermediate transfer belt or the secondary transfer belt. It will adhere to the transfer roll. Similarly, in the fixing device, when the toner melts, the toner protrudes from the sheet and adheres to a fixing member (for example, a fixing belt). The toner adhering to such a member may re-adhere to a sheet to be transported thereafter, and may contaminate the paper surface or cause an image defect. Therefore, in an electrophotographic image forming apparatus, it is necessary to form an image by providing some margins on the four sides of the paper.
In order to make an image formed with a margin part a borderless photograph, an image forming apparatus with a cutter as described in Patent Document 3 is used to cut four sides of the fixed paper. Good. However, if the paper is skewed at the time of cutting, margins may enter the paper after cutting, or an image may be tilted and formed on the paper after cutting. Therefore, before cutting, it is desirable to provide skew correction means including a roll member, such as a skew roll of Patent Document 4 and a skew correction unit of
However, in an electrophotographic image forming apparatus, an image is formed of a hard thermoplastic toner. For this reason, when the skew is corrected with the roll member as described in
The present invention has been made in view of the above-described problems, and an object thereof is to provide an image forming apparatus capable of forming a high-gloss image without degrading image quality due to the above-described scratches. It is in.
In order to solve the above-described problems, the image forming apparatus of the present invention includes an image forming unit that forms a toner image using toner on a recording surface of a recording material, and the recording in which the toner image is formed by the image forming unit. A first fixing unit that performs a process of applying pressure to the recording surface of the recording material while heating the recording surface of the material to a temperature at which the toner is melted; and the processing is performed by the first fixing unit. A position correcting unit for correcting the position of one side along the conveyance direction of the recorded recording material to a predetermined reference position, and a surface of the recording material subjected to the correction by the position correcting unit. A pressure is applied to the recording surface of the recording material while the recording surface of the recording material is heated to a temperature at which the toner is in a molten state while being conveyed by a belt member, and then the recording material is applied to the fixing belt. And a second fixing means for cooling remains wearing state.
According to such an image forming apparatus, even if a flaw occurs in the position correction unit, the toner is melted and filled after the flaw is filled by the second fixing unit, so that the image quality is not deteriorated. A high gloss image can be formed.
The image forming apparatus of the present invention further includes a cutting unit that cuts the recording material on which the toner image is fixed by the second fixing unit.
In this way, it is possible to obtain a borderless image by cutting the blank portion of the recording material.
In a more preferred aspect of the image forming apparatus of the present invention, the position correction unit rotates about an axis that is inclined at a predetermined angle with respect to a direction orthogonal to the conveyance direction of the recording material. And a guide member provided at the reference position so as to extend in parallel with the conveyance direction of the recording material, and the roll member brings the recording material toward the guide member. Transport while.
Alternatively, in the image forming apparatus according to the present invention, the position correction unit may be configured to have a plurality of roll members rotating around an axis extending in a direction orthogonal to the recording material conveyance direction and the recording material conveyance direction. A guide member provided at the reference position so as to extend in parallel, and among the plurality of roll members, a roll member closer to the guide member rotates at a lower speed than a roll member farther from the guide member. To do.
In this way, the recording material is transported along the guide member, and it is possible to prevent the skew and misalignment of the paper.
In a more preferred aspect of the image forming apparatus of the present invention, when a thermoplastic resin layer is provided on the recording surface of the recording material, the second fixing unit is configured to record the recording material. The recording surface of the recording material is heated at a temperature at which the toner and the resin layer on the surface are in a molten state.
In this way, even when a recording material whose recording surface is finished with high gloss by the resin layer is used, an image with higher gloss is formed while preventing the image quality from being deteriorated as described above. It becomes possible.

Further, the
In the present embodiment, toner having a melting temperature of about 130 ° C. containing styrene acrylic as a main component is used, but other toners can of course be used.

Here, the coated paper will be described. Coated paper is paper for forming a high gloss image in this embodiment.
FIG. 2 is a diagram showing the configuration of the coated paper. As shown in the figure, the coated paper is a paper in which the image receiving layer L 2 is provided on the recording surface of the base material layer L 1 . The image receiving layer L 2 is mainly composed of a thermoplastic resin such as polyester having a melting temperature of about 130 ° C., for example, and is formed with a layer thickness of about 5 to 20 μm, preferably about 10 μm. The base material layer L 1 has a composition containing cellulose as a main component. This composition is the same as that of plain paper, but it is of course possible to use a base material layer exclusively for coated paper having a different composition.
In the following, the direction along the paper transport direction when the paper is transported without being skewed is expressed as the “length direction” of the paper, and the direction orthogonal to the paper transport direction. This is expressed as the “width direction” of the paper.

The
FIG. 4 is a view of the
Next, the behavior of the sheet in the

The
FIG. 6 is a diagram showing the configuration of the
The fixing
The
The fixing
The cooler 630 is in contact with the inner peripheral surface of the fixing
The

(2) Operation With the above configuration, the

The sheet on which the toner image is transferred is then fixed in the first fixing unit 3. When the sheet is discharged from the first fixing unit 3, the recording surface of the sheet has a slight unevenness, so that the image has a low gloss.

(3) Modifications The embodiment of the present invention is not limited to the above-described aspect of the
In the above-described embodiment, the
Further, the arrangement and shape of the other parts are not limited to those shown in FIG. Here, FIG. 12 is shown as an example, and the

In the above-described embodiment, it has been described that the
FIG. 13 is a diagram showing a configuration of a
In addition, it is possible to correct the skew of the paper even when the roll itself slides in the paper width direction.
Further, the configuration of the

Further, the
In carrying out the present invention, the image forming apparatus does not necessarily have a cutting section. For example, in a certain image forming apparatus, if there is some means at the position of the
In the above-described embodiment, the coated paper is used in the “coated paper mode”. However, it is of course possible to use plain paper in the coated paper mode. In this case, the area where the toner image is not formed, that is, the area where the recording surface of the paper is exposed is not changed, but the portion where the toner image is formed on the paper is finished with high gloss.
