Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a wireless device that operates using a battery as a power source, and relates to a wireless device that can determine a change in capacity of a consumed battery and manage power supply such as a battery replacement time.
Today, wireless devices that communicate information using a mobile phone network are not limited to mobile phones, but are also used for applications such as transmitting meter reading data from a remote meter reading device installed on the consumer side to the center device. All wireless devices operate using a battery as a power source.
When a battery is used as a power source, the battery has a life, so take measures such as informing the time for battery replacement before the battery reaches its end of life and transmission is not possible to ensure proper operation of the device. I am doing so. In order to perform such management, there is provided a means for determining a change in the capacity (remaining amount) of the battery and determining whether the life has been reached based on the obtained result.
The conventional method for determining battery life is to check the battery capacity (remaining amount) based on the experimentally obtained voltage characteristics that change due to battery discharge, that is, voltage characteristics that gradually decrease with battery consumption. A method is adopted in which the battery replacement time is predicted when the battery capacity is reduced and the operating voltage is reduced to a predetermined value or less (see Patent Document 1).
FIG. 5 is a diagram illustrating an example of voltage characteristics that change due to battery discharge. In the figure, two characteristic curves are shown. A characteristic curve A that extends long on the horizontal axis (time) shows a characteristic of a small current (for example, 10 mA), and a short characteristic curve B shows a large current ( For example, the characteristic of 50 mA) is shown. The two characteristic curves shown in FIG. 5 have a function of changing the transmission output level depending on the distance to the partner base station in the case of a wireless device. Therefore, when transmitting to a nearby base station, 10 mA is required. When transmitting to the station, a load current of 50 mA is required, and the characteristics correspond to these. In this characteristic curve, the battery replacement time is determined when the battery voltage drops to a predetermined voltage value. In the drawing, an example is shown in which the threshold is set to 2 V and the battery replacement times T A and T B are set.
Moreover, the detection of the conventional battery voltage is based on the method shown below (refer patent document 2).
FIG. 6 is a diagram illustrating a schematic configuration of a conventional wireless device using a battery as a power source and including a battery voltage detection circuit. In the figure, (A) shows a power supply unit, and (B) shows a circuit part related to the management operation of the power battery centered on the control unit (CPU).

Next, when the value representing the detected battery voltage falls to a predetermined threshold value (2 V in the example of FIG. 5 above), a process for determining that the battery replacement time has been reached is performed, and the result is sent to the center device. The operation of notifying is performed.
However, the above-described method of causing a load current to flow through the battery voltage detection circuit has the following problems.
The first problem is that a pseudo maximum load current is passed through the battery voltage detection circuit, and the power of the battery is consumed for the load current that flows only for this detection.
The second problem is a battery voltage detection error caused by the operation timing. In the illustrated conventional apparatus (see FIG. 6), the transmission timing of the
The present invention has been made in order to solve the above-described problems in the conventional wireless device having a battery voltage detection means necessary for checking the battery replacement time. It is possible to detect the battery voltage that consumes as little battery as possible, and the transmission operation of the RF module does not affect the detection and causes an error, thereby obtaining an accurate detection value. There is in doing so.

According to the present invention, in the actual transmission state in which the load current is passed through the RF module, the battery voltage is detected by the detection resistor having a sufficiently large resistance value connected between the battery and the ground. Therefore, it is possible to eliminate the consumption of the power supply battery by the conventional method in which the maximum load current is artificially sent to the detection circuit, and the transmission operation of the RF module is not affected as a detection error, and an accurate detection value is obtained. It becomes possible to obtain.
Further, since the battery capacity is calculated based on the discharge characteristics of the battery according to the transmission output level information of the RF module, an appropriate battery capacity can be obtained, and the battery can be managed accurately.
In addition, since the detection resistor can be intermittently connected, it is possible to prevent unnecessary battery consumption.
The present invention relates to a problem in the conventional battery voltage detection method for determining the battery replacement time in a wireless device having an RF module that operates using a battery as a power source. For the purpose of detection only, a maximum load current is made to flow in the battery voltage detection circuit in a pseudo manner, and the battery power is consumed for this purpose. Second, it occurs depending on the timing of the operation (the detection by the pseudo maximum load current). It is an object of the present invention to eliminate a point where a battery voltage detection error (which occurs when the operation timings of the RF modules overlap) occurs.
For this reason, in the present invention, the battery voltage is detected by a battery voltage detection resistor having a sufficiently large resistance value connected between the battery and the ground in a state where a load current flows in the RF module during actual transmission. Thus, detection is performed in a method that does not waste power, and the battery capacity based on the discharge characteristics of the battery is obtained from the detection result as a structural requirement, and it is possible to determine the battery replacement time and the like.
Hereinafter, a wireless device according to the present invention will be described based on an embodiment shown with accompanying drawings.
FIG. 1 is a diagram illustrating a schematic configuration of a wireless device according to the present embodiment that uses a battery as a power source and includes a battery voltage detection circuit. In the figure, (A) shows a power supply unit, and (B) shows a circuit part related to the management operation of the power battery centered on the control unit (CPU).
FIG. 1 illustrates a remote meter reading device as an implementation device. The

In the battery voltage detection circuit, a
The
In addition, the

After the battery voltage is detected, the battery capacity (remaining amount) is calculated based on the detected voltage value (step S106).
The battery capacity is calculated based on the battery capacity discharge characteristics obtained experimentally in advance. Since the battery capacity discharge characteristic has a certain relationship that the battery voltage decreases as the battery capacity decreases (see FIG. 5), characteristics indicating these relations are obtained in advance by experiments, and based on this characteristic. The battery capacity is predicted from the detected battery voltage. However, the relationship between the battery capacity and the battery voltage has a detected value that varies depending on the discharge current at the time of battery voltage detection. Therefore, it is necessary to treat the discharge current as a variable.
FIG. 3 is a diagram showing an example of battery capacity discharge characteristics. In this example, four characteristic curves are shown with the horizontal axis representing discharge current (mA) and the vertical axis representing battery voltage (V). The four characteristic curves represent a case where the battery capacity increases in order from the top. It can be seen from the characteristic curve of FIG. 3 that when the discharge current is small, there is no large voltage fluctuation for any battery capacity, but as the discharge current increases, the voltage fluctuation increases as the battery capacity decreases.
Therefore, the battery capacity is obtained based on the battery capacity discharge characteristics prepared in advance from the detected battery voltage and the discharge current at the time of detection. The calculation method can be obtained by calculating an expression representing the characteristic curve and calculating the battery capacity from the calculation expression using the battery voltage and the discharge current as variables, or a table defining the relationship between the battery voltage, the discharge current and the battery capacity. And may be obtained by a method of referring to this table.
In the calculation of the battery capacity (remaining amount) in the operation sequence shown in FIG. 2, the battery capacity value is calculated using the battery voltage value detected in step S105 and the transmission current value obtained from the reception sensitivity information in step S102.
Next, based on the battery capacity (remaining amount) obtained in the above step, it is determined whether or not the power management condition such as the battery replacement time is satisfied (step S107).
This determination is based on a basic process of determining that the battery needs to be replaced because the battery capacity is insufficient when the battery capacity obtained in the battery capacity calculation step falls below a predetermined limit value. Can be implemented.
Moreover, when performing a more precise determination, it can implement with the form as shown below.
One form is that the base station is near and the load current when transmitting to it is small, but the maximum current transmission is also considered, and the condition that can ensure the transmission condition by the maximum load current is checked . In this case, it is checked whether or not the transmission condition based on the maximum load current can be secured in the battery capacity obtained in the battery capacity calculation step. That is, as shown in FIG. 3, even if the transmission conditions to a nearby base station are satisfied, if the battery capacity decreases and the load current increases, the transmission condition by the maximum load current is There are cases where it cannot be secured. Therefore, when a predetermined voltage value cannot be obtained at the maximum load current from the characteristic curve, transmission cannot be guaranteed, and it is determined that the battery needs to be replaced because the battery capacity is insufficient.
Another form is a case where transmission is performed to a distant base station or maximum current transmission is performed, but transmission to a nearby base station may be guaranteed. In this case, if it can be confirmed that the battery capacity obtained in the battery capacity calculation step described above satisfies the conditions necessary for the transmission at the time of transmission to a nearby base station, whether or not the transmission condition by the maximum load current can be secured. Therefore, the above-described processing for checking whether the transmission condition by the maximum load current can be secured is canceled.

FIG. 4 shows a sensor circuit for detecting the power supply voltage of this embodiment.
FIG. 4 shows detection voltages of 3.0 V, 2.8 V, 2.6 V, and 2.5 V as illustrated in FIG. 4 corresponding to the case where the
For example, when the voltage drops below 3.0 V and the 3.0 V sensor changes from H to L, it can be determined that transmission has been performed from the
The detection results by a plurality of sensors replace the transmission timing information and the RF reception sensitivity information in the above-described embodiment (FIGS. 1 and 2), and the usage is the same as in the above-described embodiment (FIGS. 1 and 2). Since it is the same as in the transmission timing information and the RF reception sensitivity information, the description is omitted here with reference to the above.
