「3次元地図動画方式」では、3次元の地図データそのものを携帯情報端末に持たせるのではなく、サーバ側において、3次元地図空間を必要な位置からの全視界をカバーする切り出したパノラマ動画に変換し、それをリアルタイムもしくは事前に提供することより、あたかも携帯情報端末上で3次元の地図データを表示・操作しているかのような環境を提供する。また、切り出される画像は携帯情報端末に表示されるサイズよりも大きく切り出すことにより、拡大・縮小に対して高解像度の表示を実現する。
