Description

【0001】

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an image forming apparatus such as a copying machine, a printer, a fax machine, and a multifunction machine having these functions, and more particularly to an energy saving technique.
[0002]
[Prior art]
With the digitalization of copiers, in addition to the original copy function, digital multifunction peripherals that have both a FAX function and a printer function by combining communication functions using copy resources (scanners and electrophotographic plotters) have appeared. The FAX function monitors incoming calls even when the device is in a power saving state, and energizes some circuits such as a line communication unit to restore the device.
In the printer function, some circuits such as an I / F circuit are energized in order to restore the device in response to a print request. Further, in the copy function, some circuits such as a pressure plate open / close detection circuit are energized in order to quickly detect an action to make a copy such as pressure plate open / close and quickly return the device.
[0003]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
Recovery from power saving is convenient for many users, but power consumption during power saving increases because the recovery factor is detected. Further, if the printing operation cannot be performed due to a shortage of supply even after the device is restored, the power is wasted.
Therefore, the present invention is a power-saving image that does not impair the convenience of the return factor detection means when there are sufficient supplies such as paper and toner, and does not use wasted power when the supply is insufficient. An object is to provide a forming apparatus.
[0004]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
In order to achieve the above object, according to the first aspect of the present invention, there is provided an image forming apparatus in which all devices are energized and started up from a power saving state in which only a part of circuits are energized by some recovery factors. Power of the return factor detecting means for detecting the factor for returning from the normal power supply state to the power supply state, the supply detecting means for detecting the presence or absence of the supply before entering the power saving state, and the power of the return factor detecting means at the time of power saving depending on the presence or absence of the supply And a main control means for turning on / off.
According to a second aspect of the present invention, in the image forming apparatus of the first aspect, the return factor detection means is a FAX reception detection unit, a print request detection unit, and a pressure plate open / close detection unit, and the supply is an image of paper or toner. The forming device is the main feature.
[0005]
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
Hereinafter, embodiments of the present invention will be described with reference to the drawings.
FIG. 1 is a block diagram of a digital multifunction peripheral as an image forming apparatus of the present invention. The operation unit 1 includes operation keys and display elements. The operation unit 1 allows the operator to specify an operation mode and input data. Furthermore, in this example, a power saving key 1-1 is provided as a key for shifting the device to the power saving state by a pressing operation of the operator and for returning from the power saving state.
The scanner unit 2 includes a light source, a solid-state imaging device such as a CCD, a mechanical mechanism, and the like, and photoelectrically converts the read image into an image signal. The plotter unit 3 employs an electrophotographic system, and forms an image signal such as an image signal sent from the scanner unit 2, a FAX reception image, or a printer developed image on a sheet.
The main control unit 4 controls the operations of the operation unit 1, the scanner unit 2, and the plotter unit 3 (Although not described in detail in this example, the main control unit 4 includes image processing and an image memory. The printer function is also realized.) The main control unit 4 is configured to turn off the circuit breakers 0 to 2 through the off signals 0 to 2.
[0006]
In the present invention, a circuit breaker is provided for each unit (scanner unit 2 and plotter unit 3) for turning off power supply during power saving and a circuit for detecting a return factor during power saving. It becomes a power state. However, since the main control unit 4 is configured to be supplied with power even in the power saving state, it is possible to monitor the return factor from the power saving state. Details of the main control unit 4 will be described later with reference to FIG.
The FAX reception detection unit 5 is one of recovery factor detection circuits. When the device is in the power saving state and power is supplied to the circuit, the return factor signal 1 is sent to the main control unit 4 at the time of FAX reception.
The print request detection unit 6 is one of return factor detection circuits. When the device is in a power saving state and power is supplied to the circuit, a return factor signal 2 based on the print request is sent to the main control unit 4 when the print request is received.
The pressure plate open / close detection unit 7 is one of return factor detection circuits. When the device is in a power saving state and power is supplied to the circuit, a return factor signal 3 is sent to the main control unit 4 when the platen is opened and closed. The PSU 8 supplies power to each unit described above. The paper presence / absence detection unit 9 detects the presence / absence of paper contained in a paper feeding unit (not shown) in the apparatus.
[0007]
FIG. 2 is a block diagram of the main controller shown in FIG. The CPU 11 is an element that actually controls the digital multi-function peripheral according to the present embodiment. The ROM 12 stores a program for controlling the entire digital multifunction peripheral and data necessary for the control. The RAM 13 is used for the CPU 11 to temporarily store data and states for control purposes.
The non-volatile memory 14 is a memory that can retain data even when the main control unit 4 is powered off. This embodiment uses a battery-backed RAM. The nonvolatile memory 14 is used to store user input setting data.
Through the I / O port 15, the CPU 11 drives the control target and detects sensor signals, and controls the operation unit 1, the scanner unit 2, and the plotter unit 3. Further, signal detection of the sheet presence / absence detection unit 9, output of the off signals 0 to 2, and detection of the return factor signals 1 to 3 are performed.
As described above, the main control unit 4 includes the image processing unit and the image memory, and performs processing such as copy image processing and accumulation / development of FAX transmission / reception image / printer reception data.
[0008]
Next, the operation of the present invention will be described. FIG. 3 is a flowchart of the power saving process of the digital multi-function peripheral shown in FIG. The device shifts to a power saving process under conditions such as when the user presses the power saving key 1-1 or when it is not operated for a certain time (S1). First, the power of the scanner unit 2 and the plotter unit 3 is turned off by controlling the off signal 0 and disconnecting the power source with the circuit breaker 0 (S2). Subsequently, the result of the presence / absence of the paper detected before power saving is checked (S3). When there is no paper, the off signal 1 is turned off (S4), and the power supply to the FAX reception detecting unit 5 is stopped.
If there is a sheet, the off signal 1 is turned on (S5), then it is confirmed whether there is any received data (S6), and if there is received data, it returns from the power saving state (S7, S8). The print request detection unit 6 performs the same processing as the FAX reception detection (S9 to S12). Further, confirmation of opening / closing detection of the pressure plate opening / closing detection unit 7 and confirmation of pressing of the power saving key 1-1 are performed (S13, S14). The above operation is continued until the return factor can be detected.
In this example, when the pressure plate opening / closing detection unit 7 detects the pressure plate opening / closing or when the power saving key 1-1 is pressed, the operator is near the device and can prompt the user to replenish the paper, so that the power saving state is possible regardless of the presence or absence of the paper. Return from. Further, in this example, the operation example has been described using the supply as a sheet, but the same operation can be performed for a supply such as toner.
By performing the power saving process described above, the power supplied to the recovery factor circuit can be turned on / off depending on the presence of supplies such as paper and toner, and the convenience of the recovery factor is impaired when there are sufficient supplies. In addition, when there is a shortage of supply, a power saving mode in which wasteful power is not consumed is possible.
[0009]
【The invention's effect】
As described above, according to the present invention, in the image forming apparatus in which all devices are energized and started up due to some recovery factors from the power saving status in which only some circuits are energized, the recovery factor detection means and the power saving status The intended purpose is achieved by providing supply detection means for detecting the presence or absence of a supply before entering and a main control means for turning on / off the power of the return factor detection means at the time of power saving depending on the presence or absence of the supply. be able to.
