［関連特許申請］　本申請は１９９９年１０月２５日付の予備申請、シリアル番号６０／１６１，３４２に基づく。

［技術分野］　本発明は、インタラクティブ学習方法、特に家庭及び学齢以前環境において両親、乳幼児及び幼児のために重要で刺激のある学習経験を提供するために独自のフラッシュカードと共に電子媒体を利用するインタラクティブ学習方法に関する。

［発明の背景］　教育経験が個人の成功、及び真に多くのケースで国家の繁栄及び成功の重要な鍵であることはよく知られている。また、非常に早い年齢、すなわち乳幼児又は幼児段階での適切な教育的刺激が、子供が教育システムを歩むにつれて一層高度の学習能力にしばしば結びつくこともよく知られている。ビデオ教材及び印刷教材の組合せを利用したインタラクティブ教育方法が、情報を熱心な若い心に運ぶために大変効果的であることも知られている。

このようなインタラクティブ学習方法は米国特許番号５，１２０，２３０、発明者ウィリアム　イー．クラーク他、１９９２年６月９日付（「クラーク特許」）で記述されている。

前記クラーク特許は、ビデオディスク技術を関連する印刷教材と共に用いて効果的及び効率的に情報を提供するインタラクティブ方法を記述している。ビデオディスクは、画像、ダイアグラム、映像クリップ等を含むビデオ・レッスン上で提供され、視覚像の提示により生き生きとトピックを教えるために使われる。クラーク特許ではまた印刷レッスン教材も使われ、ビデオ製品と組合せて印刷教材を用いることで、教師はレッスン計画をカスタマイズすることができ、ビデオを提示することに関連した会話及び参考資料にアクセスすることができる。

本発明の一つの特徴は、前記視聴覚記憶及び再生装置上のフラッシュカードの第１の面が選択された映像に関連する画像を、ボールド体の文字と共に含むことである。

本発明のもう一つの特徴は、前記選択された映像が写されているときに、乳幼児及び幼児に刺激を与えるために、前記フラッシュカードの第２の面が養育者によって使用することのできる質問を含むことである。

本発明のさらなる特徴は、前記フラッシュカードの前記第２の面が前記養育者が使用するための外国語単語及び文節を含むことである。

本発明の一般的特徴は、独自のフラッシュカードと共に、選択された映像を使うことにより、教育教材が提示されているときに乳幼児及び幼児の関心を大いに高めることである。

［詳細な説明］　本発明は、乳幼児、幼児及び子供のために、単語、発音、及び基本概念を教える意図を有する学習システム方法に関する。

本方法は、フラッシュカード又は本と共に、視聴覚記憶及び再生装置上に記憶された選択された映像を利用する。視聴覚記憶及び再生装置は、ビデオテープ、ＣＤ技術、ＤＶＤ技術及びオンライン、すなわちインターネット・アクセス、及び将来のプレゼンテーション技術から構成することができる。

一つの実施態様では、視聴覚記憶及び再生装置からの例えば犬のような映像が乳幼児に提示される。同時に、又はその後に、同一像を表したフラッシュカードが乳幼児に提示される。そこで子供の養育者は、フラッシュカードを基に子供に対して想像力あふれる質問をすることで子供を刺激する。ビデオ画像と共にフラッシュカードを用いることで、子供に刺激が与えられ、学習経験を強化する。

本発明で利用されるフラッシュカードは、子供に習うこと及び養育者を助けるように促すために上手にデザインされる。例えば図１Ａ，２Ａ及び３Ａを参照すると、そこにはボールド体の単語と共に絵が示されている。この例では、犬、猫及びりんごが対応する単語と共に表されている。非常に幼いときから、子供は単語を形成する文字の特定の組合せ及びそれらの単語が意味を持つことを理解し始めるということが知られている。図１Ｂ、２Ｂ及び３Ｂに示されているように、フラッシュカードの裏面には、子供に対する質問など養育者が教えるときのヒントがあり、単語も複数の外国語に翻訳されている。

本発明の第２の実施態様では、養育者及び子供が単語を繰り返せるように視聴覚記憶及び表示装置上に記憶された外国語の発音が記されている。この実施態様ではまた、養育者及び子供を多様な言語での単語発音で助けるために独自にデザインされたウェブサイトへのインターネット・アクセスを含む。

Claims (5)

  1. 下記のステップを儀日する乳幼児又は幼児向け学習システム方法：
    前記乳幼児又は幼児に視聴覚及び再生装置上に記憶された選択された画像を停止し；
    乳幼児又は幼児養育者に前記選択された映像に関連した一つ以上のフラッシュカードを提供し；
    及び前記養育者に前記フラッシュカードに含まれた質問により前記乳幼児又は幼児に刺激を与えるために前記選択された映像と共に前記フラッシュカードを利用することを促す。
  2. 前記フラッシュカードの第１の面が前記選択された映像にマッチした画像を含むことを特徴とする請求項１に記載された学習システム方法。
  3. 前記フラッシュカードの第２の面が前記選択された映像にマッチした画像を含むことを特徴とする請求項２に記載された学習システム方法。
  4. 前記フラッシュカードの前記第２の面が前記養育者が使用するための外国語単語を含むことを特徴とする請求項３に記載された学習システム方法。
  5. 前記視聴覚及び再生装置がビデオテープ、ＣＤ技術、ＤＶＤ技術及びインターネット・アクセスを含むことができることを特徴とする請求項１に記載された学習システム方法。
