Abstract
Description
【0001】

TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a fuel cell power generation system that generates power using carbon-based fuel and hydrogen generated by steam.
[0002]
[Prior art]
2. Description of the Related Art In recent years, the improvement of the electrochemical characteristics of a solid polymer membrane has been expected to realize a home polymer electrolyte fuel cell power generation system as an on-site distributed power source. At the time of commercialization of this household fuel cell power generation system, higher efficiency than a conventional power generation system is expected, and various proposals have been made for higher efficiency.
[0003]
As an example of a polymer electrolyte fuel cell power generation system, a system for generating power by reacting H 2 and O 2 on an electrode is well known. H 2 of the fuel gas is obtained by reforming a hydrocarbon-based fuel by a reformer. The reformed gas supplied from this reformer contains CO 2 , CO, N 2 , H 2 O, etc. in addition to hydrogen. Since the CO contained in the reformed gas causes a decrease in the performance of the polymer electrolyte fuel cell, air is added to the reformed gas to convert CO into H 2 and CO is burned to add CO to the reformed gas. 2 is provided with a CO remover. The reformed gas discharged from the CO remover is humidified by a humidifier and supplied to the fuel cell. Electric power is generated by the polymer electrolyte fuel cell using the reformed gas and the air.
[0004]
A technique of removing CO from a hydrogen-containing gas by a contact method in a fuel cell power generation system is described in JP-A-2002-121008 (Patent Document 1).
[0005]
[Patent Document 1]
JP-A-2002-121008 (abstract)
[0006]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, would also be burned portion of H 2 as a fuel for a fuel cell along with CO during the introduction of air into the reformed gas in the prior art as described above, burned H 2 can not be made to contribute to the power generation There was a problem.
[0007]
For example, in order to remove 1000 to 8000 ppm of CO contained in the reformed gas at the outlet of the CO reformer to about 10 ppm, air having a stoichiometric ratio or more necessary for burning CO is introduced into the CO remover. In order to introduce such excess air, air not used for CO combustion burns H 2 in the reformed gas, and the H 2 concentration at the outlet of the CO remover increases by 1 to 1 at the outlet of the CO reformer. It is reduced by about 10%.
[0008]
Further, in the method described in
[0009]
An object of the present invention is to reduce the amount of air added to a CO remover, thereby increasing the amount of H 2 contributing to power generation and improving power generation efficiency.
[0010]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
As means for solving the above problems, a reformer for reforming a carbon-based fuel to generate a reaction gas containing hydrogen and a CO modification for converting CO in the reaction gas discharged from the reformer into H 2 Reactor, a medium-concentration CO remover for reducing the CO concentration by reacting the reaction gas and oxygen-containing gas discharged from the CO modifier, and a reaction gas and oxygen-containing gas discharged from the CO remover. A fuel cell for generating power by reacting is provided, and a low-concentration CO removing device for reducing the CO concentration to such an extent that the fuel cell is not harmful is arranged between the CO remover and the fuel cell. Since CO can be consumed in the CO removal stack and the CO concentration in the reformed gas can be reduced, the CO remover does not need to remove CO to a low CO concentration as in the related art. For this reason, it is possible to reduce the amount of air introduced into the CO remover, increase the amount of H 2 contributing to power generation, and use the electricity generated by the CO removal stack as auxiliary power, system output, etc. Thereby, power generation efficiency can be improved. It is particularly preferable to use a configuration similar to that of the fuel cell stack as the low-concentration CO removing device because power generation and reduction of the CO concentration proceed simultaneously.
[0011]
BEST MODE FOR CARRYING OUT THE INVENTION
Hereinafter, a fuel cell power generation system to which the present invention is applied will be described with reference to the drawings.
[0012]
(Example 1)
FIG. 1 shows a configuration of a fuel cell power generation system according to an embodiment of the present invention. The fuel cell 5 generates power by reacting hydrogen, which is a fuel, with oxygen in the air. For example, a polymer electrolyte fuel cell is used. The fuel cell power generation system according to the present invention includes a
[0013]
Hereinafter, the detailed configuration of the fuel cell power generation system according to the present embodiment will be described along with the operation. First, the main reaction of each element in the present invention will be described.
[0014]
(1) Reaction in a reformer; the following reaction proceeds at 600 to 650 ° C. The CO concentration in the reformed gas is about several volume%.
[0015]
CH 4 + 2H 2 O → 4H 2 + CO 2
CH 4 + H 2 O → 3H 2 + CO
H 2 + CO 2 → CO + H 2 O
(2) Reaction in a CO converter: The following reaction proceeds at about 300 ° C., and high-concentration CO decreases to about 0.5% by volume (5,000 ppm).
[0016]
CO + H 2 O⇔H 2 + CO 2
(3) Reaction in a medium-concentration CO remover: The following reaction proceeds at about 150 ° C., and the CO concentration becomes about several hundred ppm. In the prior art, an excessive amount of air or oxygen-containing gas was supplied in order to reduce the concentration of CO exhausted from the CO remover to 10 ppm or less, which is harmless to the fuel cell, so that hydrogen was consumed. In the present invention, since the CO concentration is suppressed to about several hundred ppm by the CO remover, no extra hydrogen is consumed.
[0017]
CO + 1 / 2O 2 → CO 2
H 2 + 1 / 2O 2 → H 2 O
(4) Reaction in a low-concentration CO remover: The following reaction occurs at about 100 ° C. or lower, and the CO concentration becomes 10 ppm or less, which is a CO concentration harmless to the fuel cell. This reaction occurs on a catalyst that adsorbs CO (eg, a platinum group element). The following reaction is summarized as 2CO + O 2 → 2CO 2 , but since CO is consumed not by oxygen but by steam, hydrogen is not consumed excessively.
[0018]
As described above, the present invention provides a means (medium-concentration CO remover) for reducing CO from several thousand ppm to medium-concentration CO of several hundred ppm for removing CO, and several hundred ppm of CO to 10 ppm or less. It is characterized in that means (low-concentration CO remover) for reducing the CO concentration is used.
[0019]
The low-concentration CO remover may be any method that adsorbs CO and reacts it with water vapor to convert it into CO 2 . A typical example is a CO removal stack utilizing a fuel cell configuration. By utilizing this, CO removal and power generation are performed, and CO can be removed without waste.
[0020]
In the present invention, the capacity of the low-concentration CO remover may be smaller than that of the fuel cell stack. For example, when the configuration of the fuel cell is used, a capacity of about 1/10 is generally good.
[0021]
Hereinafter, embodiments will be described with reference to the drawings. The

[0029]
As described above, by arranging the low-concentration CO removal device that generates power while consuming CO between the CO remover and the fuel cell, particularly, the CO removal stack consumes CO in the CO removal stack, and the reformed gas is consumed. Since the CO concentration in the CO can be reduced, the CO remover does not need to remove CO to a low CO concentration as in the related art. This makes it possible to reduce the amount of air introduced into the CO remover, increase the amount of H 2 that contributes to power generation, and use the electricity generated by the CO removal stack as auxiliary power, system output, etc. Thereby, the effect of improving the power generation efficiency can be obtained.
[0030]
【The invention's effect】
According to the present invention, the consumption of hydrogen gas can be minimized, the CO concentration can be reduced, and the performance of the fuel cell can be maintained. In addition, if a stack having the same configuration as that of the fuel cell is used as the low-concentration CO removing device, CO reduction and power generation can be performed at the same time, and effective use of energy can be achieved.
