[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, the substrate disposed on the fixed plate side has a small heat capacity due to the thin fixed plate. In addition, since the fixing plate has a structure in which the fixing plate is partially pressed to fix the substrate, there is a problem that the heat of the substrate disposed on the fixing plate side is hard to escape.
On the other hand, in order to increase the heat capacity of the fixed plate, it is conceivable to increase the thickness of the fixed plate. However, the light modulator becomes thicker, and the optical device on which the light modulator is mounted becomes larger. Become. In addition, the gap between the optical modulator and an optical element such as a polarizing plate disposed at the subsequent stage is increased, which may cause poor image quality such as uneven color and poor contrast.
[0006]
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION It is an object of the present invention to provide a light modulation device capable of improving heat radiation characteristics of a substrate without deteriorating image quality, and an optical device and a projector having the light modulation device.
[0007]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
The light modulation device of the present invention is a light modulation device that modulates a light beam emitted from a light source according to image information, and a light modulation device body in which an electro-optic material is hermetically sealed between a pair of transparent substrates, A storage portion for storing the light modulation device main body, and a holding frame having a fixing plate for pressing and fixing the light modulation device main body against the storage portion, and the holding frame interposed between the light modulation device and the fixing plate; And a frame-shaped member made of a heat conductive material provided on an outer peripheral edge of the first substrate disposed on the fixed plate side, wherein the fixed plate and the frame-shaped member are integrally formed. It is characterized by having been done.
Here, the fixing plate and the frame-like member may be made of different materials, for example, and the members may be integrated by bonding and fixing with an adhesive or the like, or may be integrated by welding or the like. Further, the fixing plate and the frame-shaped member may be formed as a molded product integrally formed by molding the same material by, for example, injection molding or the like.
According to the present invention, since the frame-shaped member made of a heat conductive material is arranged on the outer peripheral edge of the first substrate of the light modulation device, the heat generated in the first substrate is efficiently transferred to the frame-shaped member. Can be transmitted to Further, since the frame-shaped member is formed integrally with the fixed plate, a sufficient contact area between the frame-shaped member and the fixed plate is ensured, and the first heat conduction path from the frame-shaped member to the fixed plate is provided. The heat generated in the substrate can be radiated to the outside. Therefore, since the heat radiation characteristics of the light modulation device main body can be improved, the life of the light modulation device can be prolonged. Further, since the heat radiation characteristics of the light modulation device main body can be improved, it is not necessary to increase the thickness of the fixing plate in order to increase the heat capacity of the fixing plate, and there is no possibility that the image quality is deteriorated.
[0008]
In the light modulation device according to the aspect of the invention, it is preferable that the fixing plate and the frame-shaped member are formed of a heat conductive metal or a heat conductive resin.
Here, as the heat conductive metal, for example, an iron-nickel alloy such as Invar and 42Ni-Fe, a magnesium alloy, an aluminum alloy, or the like can be adopted.
In addition, as the heat conductive resin, a resin (carbonate, polyphenylene sulfide, liquid crystal resin, or the like) mixed with a carbon filler such as carbon fiber or carbon nanotube can be used.
According to the present invention, since the fixing plate and the frame-shaped member are made of a heat conductive metal or a heat conductive resin having good heat conductivity, the heat dissipation path of the first substrate reduces the heat radiation characteristics of the first substrate. It can be further improved.
[0009]
In the light modulation device according to the aspect of the invention, it is preferable that the heat conductivity of the heat conductive metal or the heat conductive resin is 10 W / (m · K) or more.
According to the present invention, heat generated in the first substrate can be quickly radiated by following the heat conduction path. In addition, the material of the fixing plate and the frame-shaped member can be freely set within a range satisfying a condition of 10 W / (m · K) or more, and can be a material according to a request. Therefore, when designing the light modulation device, the material can be optimized according to the required performance and the like.
[0010]
In the light modulation device according to the aspect of the invention, the frame-shaped member is housed and disposed in the housing along with the light modulation device main body, and a predetermined gap is formed between an outer peripheral edge of the frame-shaped member and an inner surface of the housing. It is preferred that
According to the present invention, since a predetermined gap is formed between the outer peripheral edge of the frame-shaped member and the inner surface of the storage section, for example, the case where the frame-shaped member and the storage section are formed of different members. However, it is possible to avoid the occurrence of mechanical interference between the frame-shaped member and the housing due to the difference in the amount of thermal expansion caused by the different coefficients of thermal expansion. Therefore, it is possible to avoid distortion of the light modulation device due to heat generated in the light modulation device main body, and to prevent deterioration of image quality due to a change in shape of the electro-optic material sealed between the pair of substrates.
[0011]
In the light modulation device of the present invention, a dust-proof glass for preventing dust from adhering to the substrate outer surface is adhered to the outer surface of the first substrate in close contact with the first substrate, and the frame-shaped member includes the dust-proof glass and / or Preferably, it is in contact with the first substrate.
Here, the frame-shaped member may be in contact with only the dust-proof glass or only the first substrate, or may be in contact with both.
According to the present invention, for example, when the frame-shaped member contacts only the first substrate, the heat of the first substrate can be directly transmitted to the frame-shaped member, so that the first substrate can be efficiently used. Heat can be dissipated.
Further, for example, when the frame-shaped member contacts only the dust-proof glass, the heat of the first substrate is transmitted to the frame-shaped member via the dust-proof glass and is radiated by the heat conduction path. Since the frame member is made of a heat conductive material, heat can be efficiently transmitted from the dustproof glass to the frame member. Therefore, the heat radiation of the first substrate can be improved even when the first substrate is in contact with only the dustproof glass.
Further, for example, when the frame-shaped member is in contact with both the dust-proof glass and the first substrate, heat can be transmitted from both the dust-proof glass and the first substrate to the frame-shaped member. Can further improve the heat radiation characteristics.
[0012]
In the light modulation device according to the aspect of the invention, it is preferable that the dust-proof glass is made of any one of sapphire, quartz, quartz, and fluorite.
According to the present invention, the dustproof glass has a high thermal conductivity while being a light transmissive material. Therefore, by configuring the dustproof glass with such a material, the heat radiation characteristics of the first substrate can be improved.
[0013]
In the light modulation device of the present invention, the predetermined gap and the space between the frame-shaped member and the dust-proof glass and / or the first substrate are filled with an adhesive having thermal conductivity. Is preferred.
According to the present invention, the gap formed between the outer peripheral edge of the frame-shaped member and the inner side surface of the storage portion is filled with the adhesive having thermal conductivity, so that the adhesive is heated by the heat between the members. The transfer is assisted, and in addition to the heat conduction path between the frame-shaped member and the fixing plate, the heat conduction path between the frame-shaped member and the housing portion can be secured, so that the heat radiation characteristics of the first substrate can be further improved.
Further, the space between the frame-shaped member and the dust-proof glass and / or the first substrate is filled with the adhesive having thermal conductivity, so that the adhesive assists the heat transfer between the members as described above. The heat generated in the first substrate can be radiated more quickly by following the heat conduction path from the frame member to the fixing plate.
[0014]
In the light modulation device according to the aspect of the invention, it is preferable that the adhesive include a metal material.
According to the present invention, the metal material in the adhesive is sandwiched between the members, and these members are thermally connected, so that the heat transfer between the members is further promoted.
[0015]
In the light modulation device of the present invention, the linear expansion coefficient of the fixing plate and the frame-shaped member is 6 × 10 -6 / K or less.
According to the present invention, the linear expansion coefficient of the fixing plate and the frame-shaped member approaches the linear expansion coefficient of the dust-proof glass and / or the first substrate. The amount of dimensional change (expansion and contraction) of each member between the substrate and the substrate due to heat can be made substantially the same. Therefore, when the fixing plate and the frame-shaped member and the dust-proof glass and / or the first substrate are fixed by the adhesive, it is possible to prevent the light modulator from being distorted due to a dimensional change due to heat of each member. In addition, it is possible to avoid deterioration in image quality due to a change in shape of the electro-optical material sealed between the pair of substrates.
[0016]
In the light modulation device of the present invention, on the first substrate, a plurality of data lines arranged and formed in parallel with each other, a plurality of scanning lines arranged and formed in a direction orthogonal to the plurality of data lines, It is preferable that a switching element disposed between the data line and the scanning line and the pixel electrode is formed.
Such a scanning line or a data line easily absorbs heat due to irradiation of a light beam from a light source, and the temperature of a substrate provided with the scanning line or the data line tends to increase.
According to the present invention, by arranging the fixed plate on which the frame-shaped member is integrated on the first substrate side, heat generated in the light modulation device main body can be more efficiently radiated.
[0017]
In the light modulation device according to the aspect of the invention, it is preferable that the first substrate is a substrate disposed on a light emission side of the light modulation device main body.
Since a polarizing plate, a prism, and the like at the subsequent stage of the light modulation device are attached to the light emission side of the light modulation device main body, the light emission side is particularly poor in heat dissipation.
According to the present invention, heat radiation can be improved by arranging the fixed plate on which the frame member is integrated on the first substrate side arranged on the light beam emission side.
[0018]
The optical device of the present invention is an optical device that includes a plurality of light modulators that modulate a plurality of color lights in accordance with image information for each color light, and a color combining optical device that combines light beams modulated by the respective light modulators. The light modulation device is the light modulation device described above.
According to the present invention, since the optical device includes the above-described light modulation device, the same operation and effect as the above-described light modulation device can be enjoyed. That is, it is possible to provide an optical device that does not cause deterioration in image quality and has good heat radiation performance of the substrate.
[0019]
A projector according to another aspect of the invention is a projector that modulates a light beam emitted from a light source according to image information to form an optical image and projects the enlarged image, and includes the above-described light modulation device or the above-described optical device. And
According to the present invention, the projector can enjoy the same operations and effects as those of the above-described light modulation device and optical device.
Further, since the projector is provided with the light modulation device and the optical device having good heat dissipation, when the fan is used for cooling the light modulation device and the optical device, the fan can be downsized and noise can be reduced.
Further, since the projector includes the light modulation device and the optical device having good heat dissipation, the light flux from the light source can be increased, and the brightness of the image projected on the screen can be increased.
